WTF is happening

So many players seemingly picking up injuries between matches

What happened with Morrison ??

But seriously this season is a total catastrophe with injuries.

Almost guaranteed each game at least one and almost guaranteed , another goes strangely invisible, during a break between games.

There must be reasons but this for me is the worst ever season I can remember for injuries !!!!!!!

I am surprised if we dont pick up a couple more injured, every single week ...

No idea what's happened to Morrison but it happened close to the game so god knows. Not easy to lose 2 CBs who have been so good together and literally have to patch up a back 4 before kick off.

But you're right, it is an unnatural amount of injuries this season.

Never knowingly right.

Cook I think missed 1 game all season. And Morrison was back from surgery. I imagine the plan wasn’t for them to play so much but due to JCS injury and Fox injury and poor game vs Portsmouth, meant cook and Morrison played more minutes than I imagine they wanted to. Need to sign a centre back desperately.

It is the injuries to key players that could drag us towards the relegation zone again which is the main concern. We have just dropped another place with Derby beating West Brom. 20 points out of 27 at home for them now.

Absolutely absurd/perverse statement when the 'original' injured players like Frey, Chair and JCS are actually coming back - or in fact have already come back. Of course, Cooke will be a big miss, and the Morrison one is really unfortunate, but the players and coach have to deal with it. If we sink, it'll mainly be because the remaining 20 of the 22 aren't good enough, committed enough, or well coached enough (or all three).

Marti mentioned it in a previous interview, as a problem he wants the club to deal with, but it seems to have gone backward.

I know it was extraordinarily good last season - which would be hard to maintain, but it has crashed dramatically. I know the main guy is overseeing from the Middle-East, but I hope he has some clue as to what has gone quite so wrong...and how to fix it!

There's some very serious questions to answer about this.

They were more than happy to talk about it, trumpet the work of Ben Williams, put him up at forums and for interview last season. Loved saying we had the best availability in the Championship and either imply or outright say it was because of the overhaul the sport science, diet, "performance department" had been given. So they should be up for scrutiny now about what's changed and how we've gone from best in the division to worst.

A month or so back they were very keen to point out they were all contact injuries. I.e. bad luck. Not a lot you can do if somebody cracks through the back of your player's knee. Well, since then, Celar has blown a hamstring, JCS a calf, Morrison another muscle injury, Cook an injury that is absolutely prime overuse/over training. You take these sports medic people at their word and they all say if you're picking up loads of muscle, fatigue injuries - pulls, strains, tears - you're doing something wrong.

Morrison and Cook out for a length of time, at the same time, is nightmare scenario, as we saw today.

Were they really all contact injuries earlier in the season? That was not my general impression before the club made that statement. It certainly hasn't been true since...

Well I couldn't possibly comment. I enjoyed Dembele being "touch and go" for Burnley with an injury that turned out to be a six month knee blow out.

But let's take them at their word. A month ago we were unlucky with contact injuries. Now we're dropping left right and centre with injuries that are known issues of fatigue, poor warm up, poor training, over training, over use etc.

We weren't exactly putting in the yards at the start of the season either, in the last 2 months we've upped our intensity (and I guess if you dont have ball you are running more!)

The fatigue/over use point is key, and needs to be looked at in tandem with recruitment.
Nourrys sermon from the Mount yesterday stated they didn't sign players as they thought they could cope with players playing multiple positions.
This is now proving a massive mistake; a couple of injuries/loss of form and suddenly the squad looks paper thin.

Players are being overplayed, no breaks etc. If you know your development squad is poor then loans have to be brought in.

I wouldn't be surprised if Morgan is the next one to pick up a knock, he's only 18 and playing too much.

Well I’d get Hayden for a number of reasons, but the over exposure of Morgan is certainly one of those.

I like Hayden a lot but I’d say a defensive midfielder who sits in front of our back 4 and doesn’t really pass forward isn’t our top priority now. Centre back, striker (who can hold it up) and centre back would be priorities for me. Maybe we don’t need both Varane and Field in midfield if Colback comes back.

I couldn't agree more, but of course unless and until the 'new' Nourry makes another (more informative) presidential address and/or Marti unburdens himself to the fanbase rather than doing his usual thing of merely alluding darkly to his dissatisfaction (presumably, he's either under instruction by the club not to discuss important issues or is keeping mum for his own Nourry-esque reasons), we're likely to be none the wiser.

Morrison has actually only played around half a dozen times for us this season, I think, so he's not the embedded linchpin Captain Cook is, but he's really been stepping forward of late, and the position he's in, and we're in, make his absence feel like a double whammy! I suppose it's at least a crumb of consolation that the club don't seem to be trying to pull the wool over our eyes about how long he'll be out this time.

Well I don't disagree that we've got a lot of needs this window, because the summer recruitment was sub-optimal.

But I like Hayden for a few reasons.
1 - Our midfield still too prone to getting absolutely walked through, as it did today. Varane has improved, but I'm not as enamoured as others. Hayden's a better player than him and Field, IMO.
2 - Colback makes a big difference, but can't be relied upon clearly. Hayden does that role.
3 - Morgan has done very, very well. But he looks like, and is built like, a child. He's only 18. It's unfair to rely on him in this situation and expect him to do 20+ games through the back half of the season. Firstly you'll get too many weeks like this, where he's brilliant against Preston then awful the next game. Secondly you'll burn him out and risk hurting him physically. We're not managing our squad's health at all well this year. Thinking an 18 year old is gonna do you 20 games in the next four months would be that in spades.
4 - Would free Field up as a centre back option where he's played well this season and, more importantly still. ISN'T MORGAN FOX.
5 - Leadership, experience. Hayden was great last year. Spoke well, led the dressing room, set standards. If Cook's out for any length of time we saw what that looked like today.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t have him back but think it shouldn’t be a priority. I also think Hayden is like Field and Varane as a player. Colback is different and can actually pass the ball forward. Getting him fit would be huge for us.

Yeh, and a week in the Maldives would be huge for me.

Part of the problem through the first half of the season, per ChatGP Nourry's update, is they thought they could rely on certain players, like Colback, to do them big minutes in several positions. They can't. Colback's 35, done about 500 games at the top level, he's about done.

But that shows what fantastic job Marti did last season and how fortunate we were with injuries. Pretty much all players who left haven’t done much and players that were massive for us, JCS, Chair and Colback in 2nd half have been injured. With Dykes and Armstrong going, that’s over half your starting eleven. Makes it very tough. Still, today was maybe our worst game but game before that was our best. JCS is back, as is Chair and Frey. So, I don’t think we need a massive upheaval or panic.
1

I also think hindsight is 20/20 and, once again, Marti went into print to say he was almost completely satisfied with our squad at the end of August.

Agree with that entirely mate.

An enormous gap between our best and worst, and then often coming immediately adjacent to each other, has been a problem for years. Remember Ian Holloway beating the Neves/Jota Wolves side 2-1 Saturday, Chris Wilder's flying Sheff Utd 1-0 Tuesday, then lost 4-0 to Forest on Saturday.

I wouldn't disagree with that, it's been an issue for a while, but then the same could probably be said about most of the teams in this division. Swansea came into today after a poor performance and defeat at Hull, for example.

Yeh the majority of the teams in the league, by definition, will be inconsistent. Everybody from 8-18th will win as many as they lose give or take. It just feels like the gap between our best and worst performance levels is particularly vast (Millwall A v Leeds H last year) and they often come very close together. It was something Warburton talked about when he was here.

Swansea were crap at Hull by all accounts, but they haven’t lost a game by more than a goal all season. Today was only the second time they’ve won one by more than one as well.

I see why you would say that, but I actually don't think it's quite right because, for me, our best performances (Watford, Norwich and Preston are those that come to mind) have been no more than decent but hardly sensational, and also far too few and far between. When we've been poor, however, we've been intolerably poor, and it's been happening regularly enough to suggest it's a preparation and coaching/set-up issue.

I dont think Morgan has played too much, he played the last game and half and was a sub for the two before that. Personally I would not play him away from home at all, he has little impact in the games he's started when we are away. I think Field at LCB is one thing but I dont want to see him at RCB. If Clark-Salter is struggling to play there as an experienced left footed CB I dont fancy an out of position left footed midfielder.

We need an LB, and a Forward. If we can have Hayden for nothing yes probably worth having but if we are having to pay those are big wages he is on

And as for Colback we were given this statement on 20 Nov

https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/november/20/medical-injury-update-/

He was supposed to be back playing in November and now it’s nearly January!

Our injury situation has been a joke. To lose Cook and Morrison for many weeks is ridiculous. Fox is not up to this level and you can’t play 2 left footed centre backs! We need to sign a proper centre half in January at least on loan.

If you can play 2 right footed centre backs (as we have been for weeks), you can certainly play 2 left footed centre backs. No doubt it brings really poor balance though, either way.
