I think it’s worth pointing out that members of the UK Government including at least 2 cabinet ministers also travelled to Qatar.

Given that Qatar and Exxon is investing several hundred million in Milford Haven in the next few years and looking to significantly expand the handling capability at South Hook (as well as $10bn in the US) it makes sense to look at the potential scope for further investment opportunities. Engaging with the Qataris to see if there are further opportunities makes sense. Names to faces personal relationships etc can go a long way.

Yes a successful trip by the UK government bringing jobs to Wales. Nobody can argue with that.

He had further talks about the South Hook terminal in Pembrokeshire, where Qatar are investing around an extra £140 million.
Also helped secure Welsh Lamb exports to the Middle East.people in the oil and gas industry will benefit, as well as Welsh farmers.

They were already investing in South Hook though, that's an old story. How much extra Lamb are we selling to Qatar?

Lamb sales have been increasing for a while now, interestingly, despite Brexit exports to Europe have risen.

Are these increases down to Drakeford or are they down to Hybi Cig Cymru?

You do know that HCC is 100% funded through the Welsh Government. Right?
Lamb sales are in the region of 35 - 40% export, of which almost nothing was going to the Middle East. That figure will hopefully reach 5% over the next couple of years.
A very close friend of mine is involved in these schemes and knowing him, it will happen.
You might not like Drakeford but let’s stick to facts.

Yes I do know, so why did Drakeford have to spend 13k on flights when we already had people working on it?

Exports to the Middle East were rising in 2019 and they were worth over 2 million back then, hardly "almost nothing"

The HCC got a 100,000 grant to do promotions during the World Cup too,

£13000. What do you think of Truss spending £500,000 on a few private flights.? Hell of a difference.

£13,000 is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, Sunak took an RAF jet from London to Leeds today, how much did that cost us? A lot more than taking the train for sure! Truss as has been said £500k for a flight back from Oz.

I think that whataboutery but putting that aside, Truss was an utter disaster, Bojo should be up on charges, Sunak is as bent/corrupt as the rest of them....which other Tory do we want me to slate?

We are talking about the Senedd, don't change the subject of my ire mate, if you want to discuss how useless, negligent and corrupt Westminster is I can do that too.

I can only hope that the voters see sense at the next elections and we vote for a change because its badly needed, here in Wales, in the Uk and in Scotland too. The big problem is our political structures need massive reform and particularly around the rules/laws so politicians are truly held to account for their misdemeanors and crimes.

We know that but again more deflection , this is about the "leader" of the Welsh nation with some powers in equal measure as his counterpart in London , I can't imagine anyone in England moaning about how things are there and making a comparison with us (those who have first hand experiences of living here ). He had immense power during covid and look how that was handled and now has washed his hands of any inquiry , his party controls our budget, his departments creates policies which affect everyday living .We as I've said many times are a social experiment some good and some bad , lack of investment stifled by a lack of vision for whole tracts of the country .Would we miss devolution in its present form , imo no

You could start with RT Davies.
Now if there is anyone who hasn't a clue its him.

How is it deflection, i was merely pointing out that devolution is not the reson incompetent people are in positions of power, the UK government is exactly the same.
Westminster is full of idiots as is the Senedd.

Id rather have a competent Senedd, seems like a more realistic proposition than having a competent WM.

We need a Senedd that stands alone and takes accountability for everything that is in its remit. They are happy enough to celebrate and shout about any successes as rare as they are but when things go wrong it’s always Englands fault.

Wales gets £18 billion a year from the UK government, a record amount.

So come on Drakeford pay the nurses, you have wasted in excess of £50 million on Rhoose airport and loaned them in excess of £20 million, fat chance of getting that back.

It's no good blaming the UK government, take responsibility and get your own house in order

If he pays the nurses, then teachers will want more, and police , and fire.A budget will only go so far if everyone wants a slice . We simply can't pay everyone on the budget we get from Westminster. It may be a record amount, but it's not enough.Costs have risen everywhere

In its remit being the important part, the Senedd is not fully autonomous and has to work within UK parameters. I agree that they have made mistakes, but it is hard to know whether the budget they recieve is sufficient in the upkeep of public services or the improvement of them.

The budget is around £18 billion I believe. How much they allocate to health is decided by the Senedd. The welsh government also has the power to change the rate of income tax paid in Wales so could easily use these powers to raise money to improve the budget that way but currently choose not to. It wouldn’t be very politically expedient for Welsh people to have to pay more income tax than English people. The Scots don’t use this power either.

We also get more money per head than England does. Granted they have a significantly bigger population.

To me it seems throwing more money at it is not the solution. There are far bigger problems to solve. The NHS runs with a skeleton staff on weekends yet weekends are when the NHS sees a big surge in demand. I mean where is the sense in that? It’s a complete failure of management. The workforce should reflect where the demand is. I know people like having weekends off but it’s a service industry and the terms of employment should reflect that.

One of the reasosn they won't atm raise taxes is because its a vote loser .Welsh taxpayers based on 2021 -22 figures weighed in with £3,686 million (75.3%) at the basic rate
£1,003 million (20.5%) was at the higher rate
£208 million (4.2%) was at the additional rate . Its not the amoint as others have posted its what they do with it which raises the hackles of many
