What I find incredible is he was able to then go and sit back down and even get up to collect an award later on in the night.
There was security and police at the event that just witnessed an assault and did nothing.
Why are these people above the law? Why does the fact they are in a movie mean they are allowed to behave this way without consequence, and often with understanding and even praise.
These things hosted by comedians will pick on a random celebrity in the audience and tell a joke at their expense. If you don’t think you will react well to those jokes and be compelled to attack the comedian, just don’t go.

Having had time to think about it I agree.
The whole thing makes no sense. He was laughing at the joke, Chris Rock was laughing as Will smith approached (indicating that Will Smith was not exactly raging as he approached)...Then smith slaps him, if you had lost your temper you wouldn't be smacking the bloke who just insulted your missus, you would be punching him...Will smith was smiling as he walked away...and then Chris Rock basically laughs it off, if somebody had just hit me in front of millions of people it would take wild horses to pull me off him.

Don’t think people are upset as such, just shocked how there seems to be a double standard in behaviour between different groups of people.
It’s a perfect and brazen embodiment of it that played out in front of our eyes, what’s even more shocking is people who are usually the first to stand up for this sort of class division, are completely fine with it.
This is the exact reason why there is a depraved side of Hollywood and why the likes of Jimmy Savile was allowed to get away with his assaults. I always remember the video of him hosting TotP and groping that girl who was clearly uncomfortable, but hey he’s a celebrity right?
These actions should not be excused or condoned. They have a privileged position and need to be setting an example. Thumping someone because they got offended is really not the example to send to the world when you are claiming to be “a vessel of love”.

I thought it was staged when I first saw it this morning. Mainly because only a couple of days ago I'd heard that the viewing figures for the Oscars had halved in recent years. Probably down to the woke nature of the event! It looked like it was staged to get people talking about it again.
Having seen the video and learned a bit more about Mrs Smith, it does look like he's a bit hen-pecked and could do with growing some balls! And his bitch slap was pretty pathetic!

I used to quite like Will Smith, from the Fresh Prince through to "The pursuit of Happyness" I thought he did some good stuff. In more recent times though he has been in some utter trash like "The Gemini man" and "After Earth" that combined with his eagerness to share every grotty little detail of his life put me right off. It's like he's desperate to stay in the spotlight by whatever means. Well the spotlight is definitely back on him again.
