Trust questions to Dunphy on 23:17 - Apr 4 by fitzochris | It’s alright. You can say my name. I was told there was one other club in League Two (but with a bigger average gate than ours under normal circumstances) interested in BBM, but they didn’t pursue that interest for the reasons outlined in the piece I wrote. This was also prior to the alleged time of the contract extension. As I am sure can be appreciated, I don’t really want to say too much informally about the CD situation, but it’s a disservice to CD to suggest he is contradicting himself in his answers to the Trust. He and Andy Kelly can meet and it not be officially classed as a formal approach from the club. |
at no point did i say he had been contacted by the club. You seem to know quite a bit about cd i'm wondering on your thoughts about dunphy saying he couldn't work with this board as they all have there own agendai feel this is very harsh on kelly who has worked very hard on the academy and of late hasn;t been very well

I still find it staggering that the board would honestly feel the need to extend BBM's contract on the back of such an unspectacular run of results (not to mention the dire 'style' of football his team has produced over the last 2 years). Would they really be so gullible as to believe that anyone would be casting admiring glances in his direction and attempting to lure him away. Even if, for some inexplicably bizarre reason, that was what happened then why not announce it and tell us that our 'highly rated manager' (© absolutely no-one ever!) had been rewarded with a contract extension as a result of his being in demand elsewhere? The club are quick enough to inform us of the appointment of a new off field member of staff so surely it would be unthinkable to fail to announce such an important piece of contract news? It is great to know that the fans are not so gullible and are doing their utmost to ask the right questions and make sure that the (current) custodians of our club are rightly held to account.

Maybe the reason we haven’t heard from the board yet is that JK Rowling’s to busy to write their reply for them ?

He is under contract until the summer of 2022, having signed an extension before Christmas.' 9th December we beat Wigan 5-0 away 19th December we lost 4-1 at home to Gillingham The next game was on the 9th January a 3-3 draw at home to Crewe. Considering the impressive come back against Crewe that would have been an OK time announce the contract extension. It may not have been popular but it would have been better than how it ended up being announced.

Trust questions to Dunphy on 00:38 - Apr 5 with 2588 views | mikehunt | I thought one of the reasons CD was “ousted” was because of his loyalty to Keef. Remember we were plummeting to relegation when the new board stepped in and (I thought) bravely sacked Hill, despite the cost. This action was seen to be the right decision as results immediately improved under BBM and we retained our League 1 status comfortably. What has caused the subsequent decline in fortunes is a mystery to me. A combination of one man creaming off our profits? (No way should we be as skint as we apparently are). And a slavish disregard for results in pursuit of a “pure” footballing style? That’s all we have to hang our hat on. Will we ever learn the truth?

Hindsight. The fact is fans, media, shareholders were kept in the dark about this contract extension at the time. It was embarrassing to announce on the back of a bad run pre-Xmas 2020 (see earlier post) . So, why was the contract extension given? Nobody from the club will answer that. As far as I know, the club has always been honest to fans and the wider audience and announced in a timely manner when a manager's contract is renewed, extended or terminated. Not this time. Whoever was responsible for this is guilty of deceit. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

As I said what was 'the direction' that CD had a problem with? I know where we have ended up but surely that wasn't the intention. Could Dunphy see what was going to happen? If so instead of retiring in shouldn't he have called an EGM exposed the plan and frailties of it to the shareholders and enacted the necessary changes? Dunphy's last game was 29th December which was a 4-0 home loss against Bradford. The first win after he left wasn't till 6 games later it wasn't till after another 4 further losses that Hill was given his marching orders. If Dunphy was ousted due to his loyalty to Keith. Why did it take 10 games from Dunphy leaving for them to sack KH.

'Knee jerk reaction' to the win against Plymouth or the win against Wigan maybe. I'm going to be brave and make a statement. I reckon the offer was made after the win against Wigan but it was signed until just before or after the defeat against Gillingham.

As I said in my most recent piece, there is absolutely no valid excuse for not informing supporters of the contract extension at the time it was given.

You would need to ask the Trust about the answers given to their questions. As for Andy Kelly, the man only stepped up on an interim basis because he felt there was no one else able to do so at the time. Despite his age, health and other factors. That to me shows that he cares about the club and I know for a fact he wants to be sure it’s in good hands when he steps down from his interim position.

I am only surmising but I guess, prising Hilly out of his 5 year contract (which was a bone of contention with many and led to CD's tenure in charge being questioned) was not so easy. Or maybe Keef was owed a little time to see if he could work with the new board? Results and personality eventually paving the way to his sacking. All just conjecture on my part.

Was the question asked by the Trust and not answered? Someone has already asked if you submitted that question, along with a previous one around why CD getting a majority at an EGM would be unlikely. Is there information missing? Because it helps everyone to get as much out there as possible.

Trust questions to Dunphy on 11:07 - Apr 5 with 2030 views | 49thseason | "The first task would be to review the club’s finances via an audit " note by audit, not just a long look at the figures as they might be presented to him. I think this is the most telling phrase in this whole sorry saga so far. The implications are huge. He seems to be implying that he does not trust the current finance numbers which means that the current board have either taken their eye off the ball or worse, been reckless with the money they did, or perhaps didn't, have.

I would have thought Keith’s word carried a fair bit of clout behind the scenes at Dale at the time and the board didn’t like that, maybe one person in particular ?

An independent audit of the finances and management decision leading to them would be a good idea. However the finances and performance on the pitch declined from a peak 4 years ago so I would expect in the interest of fairness, balance and comparison you would look at all 4 years as there were issues in all of them. The other benefit of such an audit is that the current year could also be reviewed a full year ahead of them being made public. a 95%+ accurate picture could be easily provided within a few weeks of the financial year end. It's only the filing process & requirements that add a year. So in May of this year it would be possible to have a full 4 year picture right up to the current time. The budgeting process & how effective it was implemented could also easily be examined. As long as both the current board & CD are happy for a frank & honest independent review of the last 4 years, it would clear up about 90% of what the situation actually is as opposed to opinions which seem quite variable

I would welcome this, but I'd be absolutely amazed if DB agreed to it. Imagine the uproar on here (and amongst shareholders and supporters in general) if it were shown that large pay rises had been awarded to certain paid executives at the same time as the club were furloughing staff and making redundancies.
