Masterson 08:44 - Jan 16 with 10939 viewskingo

There are obviously a few articles and interviews with MW floating around. One saying he is going out on loan and another saying we won’t be signing a cb. I wonder if the timings of these could mean that Masterson won’t now be going on loan, therefore we don’t need another cb as MW thinks he can now see game time for young Masterson.

I think maybe Barbet is close to a return and I read somewhere that BFG should be back for the weekend. That would suggest we could make do until the summer.

Even with those two back, realistically we need another as Hall is very prone to injury. The last couple of weeks have shown Masterson can step up. He steadied the ship second half against the inform aerial striker of the division.

All lot depends on who is available, no point buying a stop gap for the rest of the season then needing another defender in the summer for next season

I agree. That is definitely the case for keeping him here.

We also have Cameron, Wallace, Ball and even Rangel (when fit) maybe even Amos and young players who could all come in at the back if necessary.

If we want to develop Masterson he needs games and therefore, at the end of Jan, a loan if the main three are fit.

It is one of those 'but what if...?' situations really. If we are safe and not likely to have a shot at promotion, then it makes sense to give Masterson more First Team opportunities this season. If we're in a fight at either end of the table, it might not be such a spiffing idea.

For what it's worth (nowt divided by six), I was pretty impressed with what I saw against Cardiff and in the second half against Branflakes. He has a bit more pace than the others, doesn't seem phased with the ball at his feet and looks like he has real potential.

I guess we'll find out one way or the other pretty soon!

I hope and expect that BFG will be back for Leeds but if he isn't we will learn a lot about Masterson and Warburton's belief in his readiness.

I like Masterson, however Warburton has made it very clear he will be going out on loan this January

He did say that a couple of weeks back, but also at that time he said we were looking to bring in a cb. Since then I saw an article, Kilburn Times I think, that said no cb incoming. So maybe Masterson is the reason.

Is a tricky one. If Big Man Warbs has seen enough to put him as 3rd choice CB then maybe he should keep him here? Otherwise send him to a team that will play him every game and get him back in the summer as a seasoned, whiskey drinking, tobacco chewing, fist fighting colussus.

People will definitely pick up injuries stretching for schoolboy errors. Knowing our luck, he'd come back as a fist-chewing, tobacco drinking, whiskey fighting cyclops.

However impressive Masterson has been in the ONE game and a HALF that he has played for the first team, the chances are he won't get many more appearances if he stays on the fringes with us.
It's surely better for him to go and play 20 games as an automatic choice among the L1 teams where every player is fighting to earn enough to pay his mortgage.
It's more likely to toughen him up and give him valuable playing time.

I agree.

The only way he stays if it's clear that he'll get 15 games between now and the end of the season.

Well he's playing today. Interesting to see how he does against Bamford.

Surprised to see him in the side with the BFG on the bench.
Doing OK so far, apart from 1 error to let Bamford away.
Bam Bam still can't hit a cow's backside with a banjo.
Watch him get a 2nd half hat-trick!!

This kid is the nuts! What a HUGE difference he seems to make when he plays. Assured, strong and fast over the ground. Exactly what we have been lacking. I think we have a gem here.

Never knowingly right.

Very well. But Bamford is stealing a living at a reputed £2 million a year.

Difficult to see him going on loan, now. Can Barbet or the BFG get back in the team.

It's so positive to see we're starting to find young, promising defenders now, as well as attacking players. Weirdly, it seems harder to do atm.

Ya, he seems a great find. (Wonder who found him?)

What I liked about Masterson today was his decision-making - he played ball when it was on, and cleared long when it was the right thing to do.
