..introduce myself. I must be going senile, I was certain I'd posted in this forum before, but apparently not. So I believe it is the correct etiquette to make an introduction.
I recognise many posters on here from other forums, the original (and lamented) qpr.org and WATRB. I was one of the early members of qpr.org, posting on there from early 1997 (under a different moniker). For me it was the greatest QPR fans forum, enjoying a 'golden age' right through until the point Drew Garro ousted the site's founder Ben 'Battletank' Humphreys, in what was ostensibly a holding measure, but in what turned out to be a coup. Now that it's run as a personal fiefdom, it is not recognisable as the original dotorg.
I've spent a long time posting on WATRB, one becomes used to a forum as a 'home', but now and again I visit here, mainly to read Clive's excellent match reports. However it feels like such a good forum, I think I will stay a bit longer if you don't mind! It's interesting that each QPR forum has a different flavour and I'd say this is easily the most cultured. WATRB is arguably the most reactionary and right-wing (not all the posters, but the majority), but it still makes fascinating and entertaining reading. The new qprdot.org seems rather anodyne in comparison.

(One a side note, the original dotorg still exists, but unfortunately it gets very little traffic).

I do miss Disco. the others, too. But Disco the moistest.
As for people being shot down, I don't get that to be honest. It's a messageboard, there's no threat, there's no reality bar the reality you want to create for yourself. I've spent most of my life holding minority views, nowadays more than ever. It's up to myself whether people disagreeing with them bothers me.
I'm usually just happy to post my views, have a good discussion and then walk away. I'm never going to convince everyone, chances are I won't even convince one person. But I enjoy posting my views, it gives me clarity in my own mind to think them through and write them out. The real bonus is that I often learn so much about myself from the comments that follow.
I've learned more the diverse views on this board than I have in most sectors of my life, and if people disagree with my views then I don't feel shot down or that they or I are lesser people for it.

Well this thread has got me all nostalgic for when we all followed a not terribly good team. One where we kind of accepted it and revelled in a couple of enjoyable early 00's seasons ……. and the the message board and pre-twitter communities all seemed a little less precious. I'm sure it really wasn't anything like that in reality ….. but dot.org was a good place to be most of the time.
Good to see you here now Hud. I was a relative late comer to dot.org but it was a good place to waste hours of your life and you and yours made newbies welcome. West of Soho still soldiers on I see but maybe just less actively ….. like a lot in life I guess ;-) |

'ere Norvern...it's been my opinion, based on twenty years of QPR MB's usage, that there's nothing like misery to get people posting. Whenever we start to play well and there's no crisis on the horizon, the need to vent is removed and boards go quiet. |

I wouldn't expect to see Disco or Blob on here in the none to distant
shame this site used to be good with some funny threads which made the day go quicker at work , with some very good posters I might add like Lblock, Hayesender , Loftboy, Disco, Blob, Scot1963, Chubbs , PunterR , Rangersdave Fredman, Pommy etc
if you don't agree with the status quo then you are shot down very quickly on here these days and most threads are a real chore now to join in or read , everyone is offended by something ,
hopefully a lot of the posters I mentioned will comeback |
