..introduce myself. I must be going senile, I was certain I'd posted in this forum before, but apparently not. So I believe it is the correct etiquette to make an introduction.
I recognise many posters on here from other forums, the original (and lamented) qpr.org and WATRB. I was one of the early members of qpr.org, posting on there from early 1997 (under a different moniker). For me it was the greatest QPR fans forum, enjoying a 'golden age' right through until the point Drew Garro ousted the site's founder Ben 'Battletank' Humphreys, in what was ostensibly a holding measure, but in what turned out to be a coup. Now that it's run as a personal fiefdom, it is not recognisable as the original dotorg.
I've spent a long time posting on WATRB, one becomes used to a forum as a 'home', but now and again I visit here, mainly to read Clive's excellent match reports. However it feels like such a good forum, I think I will stay a bit longer if you don't mind! It's interesting that each QPR forum has a different flavour and I'd say this is easily the most cultured. WATRB is arguably the most reactionary and right-wing (not all the posters, but the majority), but it still makes fascinating and entertaining reading. The new qprdot.org seems rather anodyne in comparison.

(One a side note, the original dotorg still exists, but unfortunately it gets very little traffic).

I was on Barb's list from 1997 (when everything was run via email lists) until 2005. I think Battletank was on Barb's list. The list kept getting moved around to different providers and ended up on Yahoo.

That coup must have been ten years ago. Dastardly business. If I remember right Ben was indisposed due to accident/illness, the board broke, no-one could get in touch with him and DG set up a temporary board. Once the occupation was established he pulled a Crimea. I eventually stopped posting there in the end as it just seemed too ungentlemanly. Shame as there were some great posters, probably still are. |  |

Always enjoyed the org messageboard and used to be a member, probably still am. It was a bit hard to really get into the swing of it, though, as it was very cliqueish and there was a lot of in-jokes. Maybe this board is the same, but I don't realise it.

There's always a natural coming and going of posters and it goes up and down over time, or so I've found over the time I've been doing it. The numbers were actually up through Jan, Feb and a bit of March and then weirdly absolutely crashed through the floor, literally overnight, about three weeks ago, spiked briefly by the Thompson interview. I put that down to the season drifting away and an international break but maybe not.
Some of the names on that list I understand, some of them are still posting, but I don't get it with Disco, he always seemed a very popular poster and his stuff went down well - certainly used to make me laugh.
"if you don't agree with the status quo you get shot down very quickly these days" is basically another way of saying "some people have disagreed with me and my mates".
I'm coming towards 11 years doing this now, I don't get a lot of pleasure out of it any more, it irritates me if I'm perfectly honest, and maybe I let that shine through too much. I also think, whatever side of things you're on, it's a particularly unpleasant and divisive time in Britain atm and particularly on the internet.
Happy to take suggestions on how to improve things for next season. I don't keep the board open for me, like I say I get no pleasure out of it, it's there for you guys.

Well this thread has got me all nostalgic for when we all followed a not terribly good team. One where we kind of accepted it and revelled in a couple of enjoyable early 00's seasons ……. and the the message board and pre-twitter communities all seemed a little less precious. I'm sure it really wasn't anything like that in reality ….. but dot.org was a good place to be most of the time.

I think Disco and blob is a big miss on this board. Genuinely funny intelligent characters . The political threads are of no interest to me really but then the Frankie thread probably isnt to others.
I cant think where improvements could be made. The football is covered really well,lots of different discussions on all sorts of topics.
Its a great site.
Maybe some individuals need to tone down how they express their opinions and except not everyone see's things the same. I think we've all been guilty of it at some point. |  |
