No knives or forks and bits of paper to eat half cooked fish off. And coonts clearing their noses all around us. Yum. Apart from that Fratton Weatherspoons [Post edited 4 Jul 2023 22:48]

Sacre bleu Great food in France if you go to the right place and can be reasonably priced too Off to France this week, lunch time menus very good value for money under £20 for a 3 course lunch at local resturant below, typical Plait de Jour menu http://www.lauryvan.fr/cote-bistrot#nos-menus Nb Sausage rougail (rougail saucisse) is a traditional tomato and chili pepper-based dish typically served with rice, very popular in Reunion.

Quality, I'm nicking that. My Chinese pal Sum Ting and I are obsessed with Sandie Shaw songs and always sing them on karaoke nights. So, if ever I forget the lyrics, there's always Sum Ting there to remind me.

I’m a veggie, TT. Haven’t generally found France to be the most sympathetic of nations to the non-carnivores….

Didn’t realise that Pat, not the best place for Vegans or Veggies, but meat or fish food is generally superb

Foo Yung was her sister, she was far more interested in writing cookery books for the Chinese market - her best seller back home was 100 ways to Wok the dog…

Nothing wrong with some nice canard or entrecote when over there, or a decent croque monsieur for a lunchtime snack. But must finish with a creme brulee or tarte tatin Pretty boring but they do know how to cook proper stuff as well for a whole evening out!

Still can’t believe Benny Hill got away with a deliberately useless Hungarian plate spinning act called Novak n’ Goode on a show aired on mainstream TV way back in the early 70’s. He used to live in an apartment overlooking the River Thames in Teddington about a 5 minute walk from the studios where his shows were recorded and he was often seen out and about in Teddingron High Street. Not only is he long gone but so are Teddington Studios - now a new riverside development. They used to film those outdoor chases that were speeded up and set to music that featured at the end of his programmes in the grounds of a local sanatorium in Hampton Wick, if you knew where to stand you could watch them filming without ending up in the background and being asked to move. How times have changed…

In Belgium at lunch times, you can get a baguette sandwich, “Steak American”, raw minced steak with a little mayo, maybe with a bit of rocket. Splendid stuff, it is making my mouth water writing about it.
