Never been on the ballot, one day though.

Do you think 51% is enough like Brexit, or do we need a 10% super majority ?
Basing this on the backtracking now on with the GFA.

Never been on the ballot because most of the Welsh electorate is happy to be in the union.

50.01% is enough if the vote is for a simple majority. Think back, how many people actually voted FOR devolution? On a turnout of 50.22% just 50.3% voted yes to devolution, 559,000 votrd for devo out of almost 2.3 million registered voters. That's a tad over 25%. But it was enough to win the devo argument because that's how our democracy works.

The next Senedd elections and the role of the Senedd going forward from that is going to be very interesting. Labour no longer have a majority and can't get their budget through, the next elections will see a four way split in the seats with a couple of independents. Who are going to team up to govern and will they have a majority to actually pass laws or will the Senedd be suspended. Interesting times ahead, it's no longer put a red rosette on a sheep and they will be voted in.

It's just a pity that it's taken 25 years for people to realise the damage the Labour party in Wales has done and will continue to do for as long as they hold the upper hand. What ever views posters hold about Reform they are making inroads into the political system and at present are targeting Scotland and with Wales in its sights for the next Sennedd elections , of course unless they shoot themselves in the foot by being caught doing unsavoury things they will be a party to contend with.

Not hard for me to understand at all, you told us all it was Cymru, and then you go and have a lapse(again).

Fair play you are the gift that keeps on giving, I missed you when you disappeared, were you banned?

Glad you missed me.

I just try to guide people a little here and there….

Btw - some people still think Wales is a Principality, are you one of them ?
The BBC seems to believe this, for example.

No, not in the least, Wales is a Country within the United Kingdom and long may it continue.

I fail to see what good this Sennedd has done for Wales, Scotland is no better, at the Scottish people have woken up and kicked any thought of independence into the long grass.

Simple question really. Do you feel that essential services throughout the whole of Wales would be better under the Senedd or Westminster. For me it would be Westminster.

That's a fine call. Over all things would be slightly better but not much. For me one of the big problems is the same as the devolution problem, too many departments, too many chiefs and not enough indians.
With devo we have 4 governmenst, 4 lots of politicians where one would do. With the NHS, since it has been split into trusts we don't just have 4 national health services, we have the individual trusts so the joined up thinking we used to have has a lot more paperwork and people to go through to get stuff done, cooperation is slower and sometimes the end result isn't reached because things get delayed along the way, just like in politics.

Nobody should wait 5 years and 3 months for a hip replacement and in England, they don't. In Wales I did. I was removed from the list twice, wrongly, and had to complain. I should have taken legal advice because it was negligent.

It's long puzzled me that those whio still clamour for the EU haven't seen (or refuse to see) what's happening across the continent. The ordinary people, many of whom voted to join the EU in the first place, have had enough. The open borders and rampant immigration has taken it's toll. Even in Germany there is a rising tide of resentment.

theguardian.com/world/2024/oct/17/why-immigration-back-european-union-agenda-far-right#:~:text=Nonetheless%2C%20and%20despite%20irregular%20immigration,success%20of%20far-right%20parties.

Well no but before Merkel and co imposed "open borders" on everyone the immigration situation wasn't as bad.

There's always been immigration/emigration and there always will be, even the animals migrate. Humans need rules though, we can't be allowed to do exactly as we please because it results in chaos. Then you end up with sad stories like the boat people dying trying to get here, crimianl gangs yaking advantage and...

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp9nnr4gel2o

There have to be controls, there has to be a structure. It would help if we had decent politicians too and not the utterly useless, corrupt and downright negligent fools we see the world over.

I’d say Reform have an advantage when it comes to doing unsavoury things.

As they’re populists, like Trump, those who support them don’t care about these things as much.

Who is the official arbitrator of what is deemed “unsavoury” though?

I thought in the new brave world doing something unsavoury was all about “making tough decisions to do what’s necessary to fix the foundations” or some guff.

Can you provide a couple of examples of unsavoury things ? they as a party certainly appeal to those who are fed up of the two main parties carrying and making the same mistakes ad nauseum and believe as I do that a major change in our political system is long overdue.

Principality by name and nature

Just to help you a little ….

In a Principality then, by definition, the Prince makes the laws.
Cymru was last a Principality in 1536, so you are only wrong by nearly 500 years.
This might well be the site record for being so wrong - congratulations.

Nature - well i agree with you that Cymru should be much more grown up and assertive.

I don't think Labour have ever had a majority in the Senedd or Assembly. They've always had the most seats and the Presiding Officer usually doesn't vote so that takes one member out too - so in most cases there is only 59 really members.

They've always relied on some sort of deal, and that's what's likley to happen next time. I still don't think the majority of people will vote.

Correct about Labour never having a majority since devolution. They came close with 30 out of 60 seats in 2003 and 2011. In 2003 they governed without a coalition as a minority government; in 2011 Plaid was the junior coalition partner. I don't think this lets them off the hook regarding performance though.

It certainly doesn't let them off the hook regarding performance. I honestly think that the Senedd have introduced legislation just to be seen as different and to justify their existence, this went particularly crazy under Drakeford with his absurd Covid restrictions and the 20 mph speed limit.

They have had one hand tied behind their back due to austerity but haven't spent the money they do get allocated wisely.

I think we'll see Welsh Labours worst Senedd election performance in a couple of years time, but they'll be propped up by Plaid and/or the Lib Dems becasue of a traditional 45% ish turnout.
