I see there's been few articles this week about the Colchester v Leeds FA Cup giant killing game in the 1970-71 season.
One or two articles mention that in the previous round they were losing 3-1 at Rochdale with 10 minutes to go. I went to that game . I remember Tony Buck bursting through the middle to put the 'Dale 4-1 up only for the goal to be flagged off for offside. I was right in line and he was onside. They went straight down the other end and made it 3-2. From then it was game on and we did well to get a 3-3 draw.
On the Monday we were drawn with Leeds at home. The plum tie in the round. We were all over the moon, a massive pay day. That money could have made all the difference. I didn't go down to Colchester but when I saw the score I couldn't believe it !
12,123 on Spotland for the tie that afternoon. Anybody else remember the Tony Buck incident.

I rated Johnson. The sort of centre half that bottled up the middle. Not the biggest guy ever but very secure. He looked like if you'd have kicked him you'd have hurt your foot. Not bad on the ball either.
I can't recall the name of another good stopper we had but I think he later worked for the PFA. One really hard guy. I think he played against John Fashanu when we played Wimbledon and it was like Ali versus Frazier !
Anybody remember his name ?

He chipped in with a few goals did reevesy .Remember him one January night heading in an equaliser at peterboro ,he knocked there centre half clean out .Class act .
We never played Peterborough when Reeves was with us (1991-94), so you're getting mixed up with another goal.
His goals for Dale were:
7/9/91 v Cardiff (a) 11/2/92 v Scarborough (h) - NIGHT MATCH 4/4/92 v Cardiff (h)
18/8/92 v Crewe (a, League Cup) - NIGHT MATCH 19/9/92 v Darlington (h) 13/2/93 v Shrewsbury (h) - 2 goals
28/8/93 v Carlisle (a) 11/9/93 v Colchester (a) 7/5/94 v Scunthorpe (h)
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
If Alan Reeves was playing now he'd be at one of the top clubs. Had ability as a centre half which was ahead of his time yet ended up at Wimbledon who expected him to kick it a long way in a side which wasn't as good as it had been.

Nearest comparison now? John Stones.
My favourite Dale player from years ago,he just seemed to have a different class and confidence/calmness about his play I'd never seen before in a Dale shirt.

Yeah, he's the best defender I've seen at Spotland in my time and there's been a few good 'uns in the last 50 years. He had the lot, pace, tackling ability, heading ability, he was a good passer of the ball and he read the game really well. A very composed, cool player under pressure. You're right about him going to the wrong club.

Am I right in remembering our good friend Ken Redfern reffed a game in the cup against Wimbledon ? Something tells me we had a re taken pen, If only Ken was still about I'm sure we would be in the premiership by now!

Well, Reeves is one of those players Wimbledon fans sometimes put in their worst (top division) XIs. I believe they were quite amused when they saw he was player of the year for three seasons(?) on that plaque in Studds (if it is still there). Also by the time he got there they were not the longball merchants they had been in the 1980s. He is quite popular there now though as he runs their U21 side, though why a league 2 side needs an U21 side is beyond me.
