Refwatch Preview: Wrexham v Dale Monday, 24th Dec 2007 18:32
Apparently this Wednesday we're going to do something a bit bizarre and actually play a game of football. The man in charge is Andy Penn of the West Midlands.
Andy Penn will take charge of his sixth Dale game when we play our annual
Boxing Day fixture against Wrexham.
The last time we saw him was at Accrington early last season when he correctly
awarded Stanley a second half penalty, only to turn down two very good shouts
for Dale spot-kicks late in the game.
Mr Penn also failed to impress Dale fans at Boston in September 2005 when he
allowed the home side to get away with any sort of challenge they liked. This
included Alan White kicking the ball out of the ground in temper, which never
even resulted in a booking, never mind anything else.
We just knew then that White would score the winner, which he did as the
Pilgrims triumphed 3-2.
Otherwise Mr Penn tends to keep a low profile and is one of those officials who
never really grabs the headlines. He’s what they call a ‘Football League
plodder’!
