Saints Still Open For Transfer Business Till The Last Minute
Thursday, 31st Jan 2019 17:40

Ralph Hasenhuttl has hinted that there could be movement in the transfer market and that the time for the talking to stop and the action to happen is now fast approaching.

The January transfer window is always one where the selling clubs hang around to the very last hour of the very last day to try and squeeze the biggest fee out of clubs desperate to buy.

Saints are not as desperate as they were a year ago and are prepared to wait for the right player at the right price, but Ralph Hasenhuttl has spoken that the time for words is over and the time for business to be done has been reached.

When questioned if all their business is done, the Austrian was emphatic when he said:

“No, not yet."

“On the last day there are always a few options that suddenly pop up and show us that it’s maybe a chance to get an interesting player."

“We are still busy and the last day is a day where everyone stops with the poker and the cards come on the table."

“It’s not about wasting time then and it can happen that we do something today.”

“I don’t want to speak about special names, I want to speak about the general situation that is the last day of the transfer window,”.

“Suddenly, things you were interested in have a possibility and then you grab it with both hands if it’s there."

“We are still working on a few things.”

Hasenhuttl could be referring to Che Adams of Birmingham City Saints along with Burnley have been reported as keen to sign the player, however Birmingham are in no hurry to sell given that they would be unable to replace him due to a transfer embargo and would prefer to wait till the summer and hoped his goals might push them into the Promotion frame.

This has led them to quote silly money to both Burnley and ourselves and it seems the Lancashire club have backed off and have turned their attention to Peter Crouch for a short term fix to their scoring problems.

But perhaps Saints might be able to do a late deal, however with the transfer window shutting in a few hours time then there is some fast work to be done and if Adams was to arrive it would almost certainly depend on the striker pushing his club for a move.

I think the title is a bit of an understatement Nick Saints are always actively looking to sell any players whether the window is open or not, now is no different,
I heard the rumours regarding the lad from Brum with quite a few premier league teams watching , the difference is those teams would be buying for the future saints will stick him and expect him to bang goals in straight away because the future he will be sold simple.

Never had the feeling we were really going to get anybody in,but still hopeful but doesn't look good.

Very risky not to get at least a CB. Last night was a good reminder that we are down near the bottom for a reason. Yes, we trust in Ralph and he clearly thinks he will keep us up with what he has got but even he can't predict future injuries and suspensions. If this squad is good enough to stay up then, even under Ralph, it is only just good enough...

Saints might be looking for players but they are looking for poundland prices. Burnley have had 4 bids turned down by Birmingham for Che Adams today. The last was for 12 million which is probably more than we could afford. Still they have had all month to buy players and haven't so I don't hold out much hope.

Looks like it’ll be another missed window of opportunity. It’s a bit depressing when it’s so obvious where we need strengthening.

with only hours to go it looks like a matter of "stick or twist" and coming up with nothing.
BUT we still have Charlie Austin on the books.. .and a chance for Sam Gallagher to prove himself. Armstrong back fit, and with Ryan Bertrand on the mend and Yoshida due to return next week..it's not so bad, and Ralph doesn't seem overly concerned.

Also an opportunity to see if Josh Sims can get some game time, and when Obafemi gets his fitness back we may see some more of his power runs up front.
