What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 15:24 - Jul 31 with 8120 views | 442Dale | There are two sides to the screen argument: For - used properly with features that include pre-match videos, stats, info interspersed with the advertising such a project should be used to attract, it can be a big plus to the matchday experience. Against - the phrase "used properly". As good as Fleetwood's screen was, and anyone there seemed to be impressed, it was offering limited output. If you're a home fan there's little of variable content to make you think "I'll keep an eye on the video screen". Unless someone is employed to put together a plan for each game that can produce different videos and info that a fan will find interesting, it becomes a white elephant. Having someone available on a matchday to run it is only half the job. There are also the issues of time for such a project to become reality. The fact it took two years from a postponement due to waterlogging v Southampton to getting frost covers for the pitch illustrates how difficult and frustrating these things can be - problems and issues often occur that are often beyond control. Would a screen be easy to sort and install within a relatively short timescale? The advantages of a screen are for all to see (literally, if it's sited correctly!), but there HAS to be guarantees in place around how it's used and that fans opinions on what they want to see on it are the no.1 priority. What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 15:48 - Jul 31 with 8072 views | TTNYear | If we had a great infrastructure that could utilise the screen i'd agree. But buying a screen with what we have will be a waste of cash in my opinion. We cant even release a fixture poster on time for gawds sake. That said if 'get your shares from Sheila' and 'tiles, tiles, tiles' is running on it...get it spent now [Post edited 31 Jul 2013 15:51]

What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 16:23 - Jul 31 with 7982 views | ColDale | the screen comes with specialist software which is football specific. When we first looked into it, I was a touch concerned that it was a case of creating a powerpoint for it, but the software makes it incredibly easy to use. We'll get something up on the Trust site (hopefully this week) giving all the technical stuff on the screen, the floodlights etc.
What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 17:20 - Jul 31 with 7922 views | SimpkinsLeftPeg | A big screen would be useless for us. We don't advertise well enough on the website or in the programme, how would we cope with a big screen? There'd hardly be anything on it! We can't even sort a scoreboard out. We have to be realistic for the size of club we are. From the way CG was talking about the floodlights last night, it seems they are a major priority or we'd fall foul of Football League rules. For me the money should pay, or at least go towards paying, for that. The training ground is obviously still a priority, but it appears the money raised is merely a drop in the ocean compared to the funds we'd need for that. That's very disappointing as I'm sure hours upon hours of hard work from the trust, its members and everyday fans went into raising that money, only for us to be told it's nowhere near enough. Hopefully measures will be put in place so that something like that doesn't happen again.

Surely the floodlight issue is down to the stadium company? And should not be funded in full or in part by monies raised by the fans....Hell if that's not the case then why not go the whole hog and part fund the redevelopment of the Sandy? It sure needs it....

I don't know the ins and outs of the stadium company/Dale/Hornets ownership, but from what CG was saying last night it is a Football League issue with regards to the floodlights. Therefore it is upto the football club to sort. Agree that monies raised by fans should be put towards more of a project, or something that will benefit the club, rather than something actually needed to stay above board such as floodlights. Of the three though the floodlight upgrade seems like the best option. I'm sure there are other options that can and will be put forward to the Trust in due course.

Yeah unfortunately the Hornets don't need to fulfil any requirements for a certain brightness of light and from what I could gather they don't play night matches?! So therefore it is a completely footballing/football league matter and the democratic society has voted for a requirement on lighting that we do not meet. So on an extreme level if you do not meet the requirement I suppose you could cease to be a member of the football league. It's like clubs coming up from the conference that don't have enough seats. It looks to me that the floodlights are a must so I'd put the money towards that unless the screen could generate the money for the floodlights in a short timeframe, which I doubt.

What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 20:17 - Jul 31 with 7701 views | KenBoon | Personally I feel the Club should pay for the floodlight improvements. The screen is a good idea, but there needs to be a plan on how it can be used to make money and ideally pay for itself over time.

The money would be a drop in the ocean if it ever did come to purchasing our own training ground. It probably wouldnt cover the cost of the roof on the changing rooms. The money from the sponsored walk has been in the bank for ages already. Personally, i think its about time the money was spent to help the club which after all is the main function of being aTrust member and handing over money/attending social functions/renewing memberships etc. The floodlights are a pressing issue and Hornets very rarely play night games so its the football club and the watching spectators who will benefit. Lets keep raising money but for gods sake lets do it with the intention of spending it. Improving the floodlights and providing a pitch cover are two worthy contributions from the trust members/sponsored walk etc and we should all be proud of our efforts. If we are just raising funds as a trust to save for a rainy day it seems to suggest that there is no real urgency to raise money in the first place which sends out the wrong message. Fans want to see some tangible evidence regarding what is happening to THEIR money !!

What should happen with the 'Bowlee fund' money? on 22:32 - Jul 31 with 7568 views | isitme | Agreed This money should go towards the floodlights or the screen and fund raising should then start for the next initiative. Without something tangible for supporters to see how they have helped raising money in the future could become more difficult.

Thats it in a nutshell. Spend the money and then we can start to contribute again towards raising another sum. It was suggested a few weeks ago that there could be another sponsored walk to Accrington to raise money, we still have the money from the last one which hasnt be utilised yet . If it just ends up being a savings account i will keep my money in my own bank. I dont mind contributing to worthy causes and seeing my money being spent but just to save it for a rainy day isnt what we all sign up for. The money is for donating to the club and i dont recall it being on a conditional basis, if they need it and the members give it the green light then lets get on with it.

Good idea but who would be responsible for operating the screen and updating /generating the information /sponsorship etc. Would that person require a salary and how long would it take for such a venture to be put in place? It took an eternity to source the pitch covers and come to the eventual decision and i dont blame the club or the Trust on that, i think sourcing a scoreboard could take just as long. I also doubt the club have the expertise or appetite to fully exploit the financial benefits of having our own scoreboard. Even when we have a sold out away stand (Plymouth) we fail to order enough programmes for fans to buy, so i can see a scoreboard becoming a white elephant. Exploiting financial situations isnt something that the club is renound for, i think a scoreboard and all the opportunities that represents would strike fear into the people who should be embracing the situation.

I wouldnt be against that idea neither. I reckon there would be a much bigger return on supporters financial investment than there would by leaving the money in the bank and the club would be the winner. I support the floodlights idea but wouldnt have a problem going down that road, its a good suggestion.
