Snow still covers the Abbey Business Stadium pitch but there are hopes on an incoming thaw.

A blanket of snow still covers the Abbey Business Stadium pitch ahead of this Friday's game versus Rochdale.

The current plan is to leave the snow on the pitch because it will insulate against frost which, according to Head Groundsman Terry Roberts, will do a better job than the club's frost covers.

Forecasts predict that we could expect a thaw on Thursday/Friday. A decision on WHETHER TO CALL FOR A PITCH INSPECTION will be taken on Friday morning.

Earlier this week the club investigated the possibility of moving the game back to Saturday (when milder weather is forecast) but this was not possible for a variety of logistical reasons.

Volunteers clearing snow off the pitch is not an option currently for two reasons. The first being that there are no covers under the snow and the removal of snow with brushes and spades would destroy the pitch. The other reason is that the snow is acting as a shield against frost so there are no plans to remove the snow at this stage.

Hancox Catering have also informed us that there will likely be a limited menu on offer if the game does go ahead. This is due to the possibility of the game not going ahead and the risks of ordering in the normal amount of stock.

We will continue to update supporters here on www.ctfc.com as well as on the club's official Facebook and Twitter accounts.

I said yesterday 90% chance of being off. I'd say now 95% temperatures not due to get above freezing tomorrow

I would rather see it called off, purely for the fans to welcome Hilly back at home....

It does bring into question the decision to schedule the game on a Friday night in January. I cannnot see how this benefits anyone (owners, players, fans).

The original Saturday fixture classed with a rather large horse racing event in Cheltenham.

Maybe they couldn't see into the future when rearranging the fixture last June.

But they could 'see into' the past - temperatures lower in the evening than during the day usually if you check the records and january - high risk of frost?

Do fans prefer attending evening games in the depths of January to afternoon games.

The event runs on both Saturday and Sunday.

You could argue that the football league should not have scheduled them a home game that weekend.

Just as well Dale played the home game on a Friday night cos it would have been flooded off the day after.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but bloody useless.

Would Dale normally stop over in a hotel for Chelts away on a Saturday?

This may have something to do with this being scheduled for a fri? Or maybe not of course.

It was moved because of the race meeting (Festival Trials?) at the racecourse, which is 5 minutes' drive from Whaddon Road.

Dale would have been approached about moving the fixture and they agreed on Friday.

There could have been many reasons why, one being that it negates the need for an overnight stay and all its associated costs.

Some managers also like a Friday as it gives them the chance to watch another game on the Saturday.

None of this benefits the fans, however, but that's the usual scenario.

And, as isitme points out, Cheltenham would have requested an away fixture, but the FL didn't/couldn't accede to that request.
