The Courtney Baker Richardson syndrome. 12:56 - Oct 8 with 3573 viewsReslovenSwan1

It seems to me that the club who has already got SIX strikers at Fairwood or out on loan is in a perpetual state of " we are a bit light up top".

From Cooper when he lost Gyorkeres to Martin when he fell out with three forward simultaneously and now Williams trawling the non contract lists.

This is a philosophic issue. Namely the Courtney Baker Richardson syndrome (CBR syndrome)

Potter made the best of a bad job and gave CBR his debut away at Millwall. He promptly got sent off within minutes gloriously flattening two beefy Cockneys. Montero then ripped Millwall apart. Potter was relaxed with his philosophy as he did not suffer from a CBR syndrome. "Stuff happens.

Ollie McB with his frequent illnesses was not reliable and CBR scored 3-4 useful goals as he was very hard on the 6 years box. Potter is a high class operator. He mantra was self improvement. Heading to Man Utd perhaps? Ashworth took him from Swansea to Brighton .

The think tank in Resolven noted the CBR was out of the door within days of Cooper arriving. This was the new philosophy. CBR missed an open goal header in a friendly 6-1 win over Exeter. Borja and OMcB dovetailed beautifully for 15 mins and looked like a marriage made in heaven. The young Swede Asora was ecstatic to score his first SCFC goal. He was a victim of the new philosophy.

Swansea now has forwards who the manager considers as unplayable. The CBR syndrome. CBR was a blunt instrument who did a job after OMcB overdid the gaming and got ill.

Since Potter left Gyorkeres Whittaker Kukharevych Yates Wilson have all suffered from the CBR syndrome and not been used as they are not aesthetically aligned to the Swansea way.

If CBR was good enough for Potter why were these players frozen out?

A non contract player.? What for? Is it a touch of CBRS?.

It is the philosophy of players being an ideal fit for "the way Swnsea city play". It is the philosophy of casting away players with technical short comings chosen by recruitment and rejected by the manager rather than using and developing these players to fit the team even in cameo roles. Cullen's recent very sharp finish was a result of getting on the end of a ricochet not a crisp passing move.

The team template is "designed" by the manager who will not pick players who do not fit that template. Potter had his way of playing and it was beautiful to watch and brave. He fitted CBR into this system and moved Grimes to full back. CBR chiselled out 3-4 goals by being strong in the 6 yard box. he was not the long term answer but was utilised.

The 'Resolven think tank' are me and my brother. It was self parody.

Now Watson has gone on the altar of this philosophy. Nathan Toe an On is the new Ogbeta and Cyrus Christie is another mouth to feed. Williams in the new Martin and Kukharevych is the new Whittaker.

Cooper did not risk Gyorkeres either. He actually preferred "True Jack" Cullen the best striker to come out of Swansea sin 2 30 years but not good enough to ear a pay rise. The club management is timid and needs to tell mangers to use what they have.

A good geologist will recognise a rough diamond. That is his job. Cooper decided Vik did not fit his pattern of play and had no future at the club. A good coach would have seen him in training and realised his potential.

I wonder how Nathan Tjoe-A-On only managed 4 games while on loan @ Heerenveen ??

I'll say 4 matches, but it added up to a total of just 15 minutes playing time.

Gyorkeres only started one game under experienced Premier league coach Steve Cooper at 22. It may be that he was a waste of space. Hindsight suggests he was a rough diamond with huge potential and the coach either missed it or had a short term view on his career.

Swnsea city have form on not developing potential.

Steve Cooper wasn't an experienced Premier League coach!

So you didn't know Gyorkeres was going to make it?? It's only hindsight!

Steve Cooper is a top coach in the Premier league. He should know his onions. He had spent his whole career coaching young prospects.

I suspect he knew Gyorkeres was a good prospect with a very good future.

So why did he not press to develop him and sign him? I put it to you that Gyorkers was at least a season from development and Cooper already had eyes on moving on. Mark Robbins had a more long term outlook.

Swansea's owners have backed managers and no thanks form them or fans alike.

Coopers job was to get us promoted, as you well know.

You don’t stuff a team full of elite young players from Champions league teams you are never going to be able to sign if your remit is to develop our own players for the future.

Plus he wasn’t our player.

Cooper had no consideration for the club in the long term? . I put it to you he should have considered the clubs best interests in the short term and the long term like Mark Robbins did for Coventry.

Cooper had a short term outlook and defaulted on the third year of his contract. He was passing through and looking at his next gig. He refused to fulfill his contract.

Absolutely. He couldn’t care less about the club long term.

Actually like all people of note at the club the majority owners fell out with him as he was only on 95k a year, he wanted an increase as per the contractual agreement. They refused. He then asked for two players who would take the club up to the premier league the next season. As we reported at the time they were refused as well. Cooper said I can’t work like this I’m not being supported and the club said well, take this sum of money. Don’t work for three months and off you go.

He possibly proved a point later that season.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Does anyone care about the club long term except the supporters. Players come and go, managers come and go, owners come and go, true supporters are here forever its in the blood. That's just the way it is.

The club is banging on about how vital the academy is to the club. Why bother taking 8-9 year old kids into the club like Conner Roberts, Josh Thomas Joe Rodon for example?.

Somebody must care. You are undervaluing the club workers again and bigging up the fans.

Swansea fans threatened to take the club on a very expensive ruinous legal case for 6 years. They ended up taking £500k off the other owners which the club will most probably never see again.

I repeat the fans have taken £1.3m from the club and its owners and only ever invested £200k. A net £1.1m loss. What is worse is they have no idea what to do with the money.

Very rarely.

To think Cooper would have prioritised developing players for the medium term over playing his strongest team when we had a realistic shot at promotion is naive at best.

That’s without even considering VG wasn’t our player and his parent club (renowned for their recruitment and development of young players) didn’t see anything him either.

You are casually binning the honest hard working people of the academy entrusted with the well being of scores of young lads who want to be footballers. They care more than fans.

Cooper had Gyorkeres in the building and wanted Keinan Davis who was inferior to big Vik and injury prone.

You are buying Coopers narrative. Keinan Davis would not have guaranteed promotion a because he is not very good.

It was Coopers job to tie down potential £80 m footballers to a long term deal. For you and me it is hindsight for Cooper it is his bread and butter.

The team was stale it seems at the Wembley no show. They did not lay a glove on Brentford. Could it be they were fresher because of not playing the same team week after week?

Don’t deflect, you know full well we are referring to people like Steve Cooper. Add Russell Martin, Brendan Rodgers, Roberto Martinez and Luke Williams to the list if you want.

You’re also incorrect about the young lads trying to be footballers. Those who make it, invariably do what’s best for their own career and rightly so. We’ve got plenty of recent examples.

Forget Keinsn Davis, who we didn’t sign. Gyokores was inferior to the players we already had who were keeping him out of the team. Only a fantasist with the benefit of hindsight would imply we should have risked our chance at the playoffs by weakening our side and developing Brightons player.

I’m not buying any narrative at all. I haven’t suggested we should have signed Davis once. Don’t make things up and attribute them to me please.
