I was there and my memory is of Reg Jenkins turning the Southend left back inside out time after time in the second half. I was stood near the corner flag and it was hilarious. I swear that fullback went in at full time wearing his kit inside out and back to front.

I think that officially there were over 9000 there with a minimal away support. This backing up from the game at the Shay less than 48 hours earlier when 17000 were packed into the ground.

To be fair we followed that up by losing only 2 of the next 17 games in which we scored 42 goals and arrived at thetop of division 3. Then Vinny Leech got injured ( an injury that ended his career) and that was that.
