The devil on 13:13 - Jul 30 with 3450 views | Wingstandwood | There is a (same religious order has the priests in 'The Exorcist' movie) 'Jesuit' educated academic/author who apparently is an expert on Satan himself, having spent 50 years studying him. Not many like him about town? His opinion is that Satan is misunderstood, saying for example that 'Satan' translated from Hebrew means 'adversary'. Satan? Only guilty of being a bit over zealous in his approach apparently? That aside I do think that this academic will definitely annoy a Presbyterian couple that I once had the absolute misfortune to have met i.e. radical hardliner types whom were extremely happy to think that Covid was God's punishment. And bearing in mind that these Presbyterians think that Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormon's are Heretics, no doubt the devil apologist academic/author is going to be accused of being an heretic himself. So its straight to hell he goes? Some radical extreme thinking Presbyterians have a very low opinion of Jehovah's Witnesses because JW's reject 'the trinity' which is "the father, the son and the holy ghost", meaning that all three are one hundred percent God. When it comes to hardline fanatical religious types, they think that their denomination and their denomination only is the righteous and chosen one, whilst all the other denominations do not meet God's criteria in their minds. One lot does not agree with the other lot, that disagrees with the next lot after that, meaning only one lot will go to heaven, but how come they are so convinced that they are correct when? It is God and only God that makes the rules and regulations and decides not them. And only one denomination can be correct?

Strange that the one who sent plagues of locusts, lice, hail etc just to kill people he didn’t like is considered the “good guy”. Then he went on to turn water into blood, kill all the firstborn children, send pestilence amongst the livestock leading to widespread starvation, suffering and death. Chuck in the time he flooded the entire planet like a genocidal maniac intending to drown and destroy everyone and everything. With “good guys” like this you don’t need an effing villain.

I knew I could count on you! What prompted me to post this was a comment I made elsewhere. My sister has spent her life nursing, from the age of 18 she started training, later she specialised and became an Oncology nurse. She has helped very many people. Besides that and bearing in mind I am a tad biased, she is one of the best people you could ever hope to meet, has never deliberately done anyone harm, is kind and generous. In short, she is a far better person than me. So I wondered what kind of allegedly beneficent god would allow all these bad things to happen to good people. It has me thinking that maybe the devil is actually the good guy who has been totally done up like a kipper by a git with a very good publicist. Saying all that, religion is for fools...in my opinion.

The idea of God being a nice benevolent loving warm chap who loves us and wants the best for us is an incredibly modern interpretation. For the entirety of human history God is someone to be utterly feared. The only way to save your soul is through total submission. He is angry and vengeful and jealous and will happily strike you down for the slightest misdemeanour. Despite his genocidal tendencies he will still feel he has the moral high ground to judge you harshly and cast you into the eternal lake of fire because you touched a woman’s boobies once when you weren’t married to her. He’s not a nice chap and if I ever have the mispleasure of meeting him I will tell him so to his beardy face.

Evil is completely a human concept though. Is a lion evil for murdering another lion, taking over his pride and killing all the cubs? Is a cat evil for playing with and torturing an ensnared mouse? Are chimps evil when they routinely gang batter other chimps to death before cannibalising their flesh? We like to think we are special, that we are higher beings. But we are little more than great apes ourselves. Animals with base urges and instincts.

There you go again, still loving your work. it's true, what we see in nature we don't call evil and though we are part of natures great story we consider ourselves above it. it's because we think we are more intelligent, despite the evidence.

A silverback gorilla is generally quite a quiet shy and retiring beast and enjoys spending his days sitting on his massive buttocks chewing on some leaves. But when he feels his territory or ‘people’ are under threat he is capable of an explosion of remarkable violence and would not hesitate to brutally kill anyone or anything in an incredibly painful way without mercy. Is that really in essence any different from what Putin is doing? Or when the allies dropped the bomb on Hiroshima? Pretty much all military action in history has always been framed by the concept that we have to do this to protect ourselves and our people. And people generally get behind it. The only difference is our superior intelligence has led us from rudimentary weapons carved out of sticks to killing machines that can wipe out a country in the single press of a button.

Yeah, 2 billion people could be wrong though. Over 600 million are atheist apparently, we could be wrong too. Thinking about it logically, how can anybody believe in a deity with absolutely no evidence? My mother in laws Vicar actually said that you cannot take the bible literally because it has be re-written so many times. That is hardly faith and from a man of the cloth too.

Of course we are more intelligent than other animals. This has to do with morality because of that very intelligence. Some have it and many don't.

There are about 1.2 blllion Roman catholics apparently, I have some in my family. How can so many believe in that when that church has for decades covered up for and protected child abusers? How can any evil act be forgiven by a god just for saying some Hail Mary's, doing penance and doing some kind of rectification. Forgive me father for I have sinned, I planted a bomb and killed innocent women and children....ah to be sure, dont worry, ths morning I shagged a 10 year old choir boy up the ass. Come and say some hail mary;'s with me, and fetch the vaseline. It's obscene.

I don't think there's a single organisation on the planet with a greater track record of theft, torture, abuse and murder than the Catholic Church.

There is a Christian doctrine (heard it with my own ears to my own astonishment) that says (on Google also) "good people do not go to heaven, only forgiven people so". The Presbyterian guy told me that God would for example forgive (he of a different religion) beheading serial killer Jihadi John if he repented his sins by seeking salvation from Jesus. I learnt at the same time that Jesus is a prophet in the Koran relegated to "son of Mary" (and not God) status. Rather cruelly and outrageously unfair by comparison i.e. a kind, loving, selfless and decent charity volunteer for example would go to hell if sins were not repented however minor. And I was told that even thinking can be sinful e.g. someone can commit adultery just by thinking the wrong way. That is what I was told So yes indeed God does move in mysterious ways. And? You can see why one lot in Northern Ireland was just as bad as the other lot at times.
