While some pine for Dom Ball... 16:21 - Feb 5 with 3196 viewsHooping_Mad

I always had a soft spot for Samba Diakite.

His Wiki entry reminds me why we played him 14 times in 4 years:

"However, on his full debut against Middlesbrough on 15 February 2014, Diakité was shown a straight red card early in the second half for a two-footed lunge on Dean Whitehead.[12]"

Sorry Not Sorry Watford.

How do we think Tyler Roberts would do against him in training?

I always pronounced his name Sarmba Deeyakkety.

As you were.

The half an hour destruction derby against Fulham I will remember for ever. If it moved he tried to kill it. Had the ref not intervened with two yellows I swear there would have been body parts littered all over HQ.

George Petchey was the first hard man in a Rangers shirt I saw.
Tough…? Savage was more the word.

He became othing more than an absolute liability. The West Ham game at LR under Hughes when trailing 2-0, Hughes brings him and Taarabt on. The Moroccon bends one in the top corner out of nothing and the comeback is on until the Mad Malian gets two quick fire yellows reducing QPR to 10 men and kills the game stone dead.

Later on in the season Redknapp paired him with would be Glasgow Rangers player M'Bia against Liverpool I think and we were 3--0 down before half time. That was it for him.

I loved Diakité with every last fibre of my being. He was pure box office - never a dull second when he was on the pitch. If he wasn't killing entire opposition squads to death, he was marauding about the place with a surprisingly sure touch and of course his shorts rolled up at a jaunty angle.

Football should be about entertainment - Samba was it's purest form

Shit but local

Now imagine that you've been living overseas and are back for this game, your first at LR in many years and first prem game in even more years. Then picture yourself seated near the West Ham fans listening to them taking the piss all night. That was my experience!

And to think I was so happy when we signed Diakite.

Some people are ahead of there time. Samba had a different approach.

He brought a new meaning to limbs.

Although he was slightly mis-adjusted, I still miss him.

I loved Samba, mad as a box of frogs, a walking red card but that goal against arsenal will never be forgotten and has been spotted a few times as a paying punter watching QPR like the rest of us

In his loan spell he had some outstanding games. He brought drive, physicality and class. When we signed him permanently it, as is typical for us, went downhill rapidly.

it all went Pete Tong when he signed permanently... the last 3 seasons at QPR saw him make 1 appearance in the League Cup... Wonder how much he took from the club in those last 3 seasons???

that was the wierd thing - we had a try before you buy - it was obvious there was ability there, but he needed to calm down. Most of us oin here thought it was a good buy... then... nothing.

I recall he had some mental health issues, for which he gets my sympathy, but it is sooo typically Rangers.

It's all a bit hazy but he had family killed during the civil war in Mali while he was with us and, expectedly, it affected him badly. When he first arrived I thought we had the next Patrick Viera on our books but he certainly had both flair and a serious discipline problem. Overall, I liked him.

The grass is always greener.

who was the player who refused to play for us until the club hired a witchdoctor to ward off evil spirits??? (It was one of Marc Bircham's many stories about the club at that time).

A small known music fact is that Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" was in fact references to Samba Diakite's impact on the football pitch for QPR.

A sensible precaution in my opinion.

Getting to the end of that 11/12 season and staying up by the skin of our teeth, thinking the following season we'd have a midfield dynamite duo of Faurlin and Diakite and all our troubles would be over.

This is easily one of the funniest half-hours I've ever experienced at the football. God bless Samba.

Assuming his version is true.
