Not confident about tonight, although difficult/impossible to be confident about any of the 5 outcomes until we see the teams.

For what's its worth I've had a small bet on Oxford to win in 90' - 4/1 seems pretty decent value to me.

I’m going to take “some” credit for that. The Warburton chant in the second half was me and my mate banging on the back of the wall in Pu for 10 mins straight. Slightly bruised hands now.

Good performance. Great in the first half. Okay in the second. Obvs Chair and Willock (especially) were a cut above, as were Dickie and Dunne. Was not impressed with Dozzell and Thomas again, sadly. I don’t think they move it quickly enough. Duke-McKenna came on and was trying to move it quicker than them from the off. He looks impressive and very quick! Kelman was tidy but today was a great chance to score given how the game went, unsure if that was on his movement or his teammates passing; gut feeling is the former.

Kakay looked good too. Think he’s improving, certainly on the ball, compared to 12 months ago.

I would be interested to hear some views on our defensive display against Oxford Utd.

Last nights combination of Kakay,Moses,McCallum Dunne and Dickie being played in a 4 could be how the formation might evolve or change over the season depending on countering other teams tactics.

Obviously playing the 4 would also give the option of another offensive player in M/F or up top.

I thought that the back 5 was generally sound. I thought that McCallum seemed to play quite narrowly, showing their wide man the outside, which he took on at least 4-5 occasions and getting dangerous balls in. Maybe a bit short of pace. That said, it's his first game in ages so I'll reserve judgement.
Moses is perfect for the role in that almost by definition there will be space in behind the wing backs, but he's a real athlete and does a lot to cover back.
On a slightly different note, I actually thought Thomas did well - he was obviously told not to keep turning back and to look to move the ball on - which he did a number of times to good effect

Yep I thought it was a brave showing from Thomas after the weekend. Duke Mckenna also did not entertain the idea of going backwards in his little cameo.

Thought oxford a decent side overall.

Also thought the ref was excellent - was careful to clamp down on time wasting , used cards when appropriate and was fit enough to actually keep up.

Back for a few weeks, caught the last two games. I’ve not seen the Rangers for nigh on two years, so the transformation is as clear as it is heartening.

The boy Dunne looks a great buy. Solid and as he’ll likely play a lot with JDW’s injury record, he’ll also get games on merit. While McCallum will come up against better oppo, there’s a good player there if he can stay fit.

I know he didn’t get much time, but SD-M has something about him. Not sure we can let too many go on leave before Amos and Field return, but hopefully he can get a good loan in January and some games under his belt.

Upshot: our recruitment and development of players is such, we cannot praise those behind it enough.

A little bit of a slow start from us as Oxford were very lively in the first 15 minutes. I was a bit concerned at that stage whether Dozell could get his confidence and game going after Saturday. However he and the team stepped up, got on top and apart from odd moments bossed the game especially down the left side.

Thomas was unspectacular but very steady and much improved from Saturday. One thing about him though, he doesn't concede possession, always finds a hooped shirt.

Lots of good forward runs often not picked out by Thomas, Moses, Kakay, Duke-McKenna, Kendall and Alfa.

A very enjoyable open game, credit to Oxford and I agree the ref was excellent, took no nonsense, used the card early and players knew not to take the p**s. Very good at stopping us from timewasting. Played advantage well, gave fouls and stopped for injuries when needed. Not sure what Chair was booked for. Did he kick the ball away. It was too near the SA Road touchline for me to see. He gets a 9 from me, would be a 10 but it was an easy game to ref and he wasn't tested enough for that.
