On the other hand, maybe competition on drug prices from the US may stop the NHS being held to ransom, it might reduce its overspend and perhaps, a long shot admittedly, the NHS could finally care for the elderly in a more humane way than they do presently.
I admit, it's unlikely, but the NHS sure isn't presently working well at that end of the market.
It's all very well constantly praising the NHS in its present form, and a lot of it is good, but when you have an elderly parent on the wrong end of State care, trust me, you see a whole different picture. |  | | |

Well, my mum's been in and out of hospital for cancer for most of the last year, so I've seen a bit of how the NHS deal with the elderly generally. Definitely fraying round the edges, but that's what endless funding crises will get you.
If we do move over to an insurance based system, the people who are going to be hit first and hardest is anyone not in a steady job. That's going to include retirees, so if I was in my 60s or older and cheering on the privatisation of the NHS, I might want to get the house valued into the bargain.

Trust me, medical care in the US is absolutely appalling ,the Republicans regard anything that resembles free at the point of care as communism!
