I think it’s going to take several generations but we will one day have a decent alternative to the frying pan or fire choice we have now. Out of interest how much is your council t@x? Mines 2k

Cardiff gets highest WAG spending increase - and we continue to vote Labour on 21:51 - Oct 9 with 6717 views | Catullus | Now then, council tax, we accepted it without a fight but it's much worse than poll tax was, much more unfair. Ever since the WAG our services have been cut but our bills have risen. Any wonder many people are so turned off politics. We have too many politicians and they cost us a fortune, not just in wages and expenses but in the billions they waste on stupid ideas such as the reorganisation of the NHS that was a very expensive cock up, changes to welfare that have also cost a fortune and is leaving the poorest in society up to £200 per month worse off. How much have these wars out in the gulf cost us, not just at the time but in the ongoing struggle with terrorists that we only made worse too.

Not as ridiculous as a flat-rate tax - in the form of the poll tax, which you think is a better solution.

Its the M4 corridor places from Swansea to Newport that is getting the money. Rural places in the West, Mid and North of Wales are facing cuts yet it is those places that face the biggest challenges providing services, due to the distances involved with poor infrastructure [no motorways or mainline railways] and an older population.

Yes the reason I heard is because its based on population and not on need. Its the same thing on a UK wide level, it should be based on need but its not, they should take money from London and the South East of England and give it to Wales. Likewise in Wales they should take money off Cardiff and Swansea and give it to more rural places in the West and North, im a socialist and believe in fairness and equality unfortunately there are lot of people that are selfish and greedy and all me me me.

If we had a proper state where resources were directed to parts of the state that needed it then there would not be as much of a call for independence as there now is, but that is not the case. Some constituent parts of the state are doing badly and some people from those parts think they can do better if their part became independent. There is no such sovereign state as England, the UK is the sovereign state and its the UK that decides where its tax resources go. As regards being a parasite I pay more into the system in taxes than I take out [a lot more, im in one of the highest net paying groups into the system] and I would be prepared to pay even more for the greater good as well. Yet again, cuts to services are twice as bad under sole Tory control in England than under the SNP or Labour. We've just given the NHS a better deal than the Tories in England. Health spending per person is higher than under the Tories in England. We were ahead of the curve on health (smoking ban) and environmental (plastic bags) issues. And all this done while Westminster has cut the budget to the WG by £1.5bn a year. I'm no Labour voter (and there's plenty we can genuinely complain about, like their Cardiff-centric view), but there's plenty of evidence to suggest Labour are buffering us from the worse of Tory austerity.

Really, so a single person in a 1,000,000 house should pay more than a family of 5 in a 150k house? Which house uses the most resources? In my street, well my house will do, there are 3 of us and we pay the same as the man next door. Our house has a larger income than his, we put more rubbish out etc but we pay the same council tax. He does get a 25% discount but still, that doesn't make it fair. he puts one black bag out which is half the size of the 2/3 we put out, his food bin is never full, his recycling is a fraction of ours. Neither system is right but poll tax was fairer.

We had a pothole truck out here - they filled in a 'hole' I could barely see where our drive meets the road (it was about 3 inches square dimple at best - "these things can become a problem before you know it mate"). But strangely missed the feckin massive hole around a service cover in the middle of the junction that would need more than a shovel of tarmac and a stamp with a boot to fix. It's almost as if they're trying to improve their 'fixed' figures. PS. £2.5k+ here too. It's a lot isn't it? Especially as we produce considerably less waste and need no more services than a 3 bed house packed full of students paying half as much. [Post edited 10 Oct 2018 23:00]
