I don't go a bundle on this resting in peace stuff but I think Bowie was up there with Picasso in terms of originality, ability to inspire other artists and irreverence - all favourite traits of mine. I'll be sadder to see Dylan go, I suppose, because I simply preferred his music (and his lyrics) but it isn't just about the songs, is it?
I was sadder when Freddie Mercury died, but I was a massive fan. Bowie was hit and miss with me, but I could see he was more than just a singer.

Depends on the kid. I was never that much of a fan to be honest, I've got a best of compilation knocking about somewhere but my eldest daughter is mad for his '70s output, plays him all the time in her car. She didn't get that from me or her Mother.

I wasn't too keen on his 80's stuff apart from Loving the Alien. However the last 2 albums have been great. Valentines Day off his previous album to Blackstar is a classic Bowie tune. Reminiscent of Arcade Fire - a band he really liked.
