A great riff so simple a proper guitarist wouldn't have thought it up!
This one is more simple but just as (if not more) effective. Love th momentum of this track, driving guitar and rhythm section and then the crescendo at the end. Unbelievable artist and an even more unbelievable loss.

RIP and all that, but I never 'got' Bowie. I just saw him as some lad that liked to wear make-up and produce bog average music.
All i'm hearing today is how he was so influential, iconic and pioneering. I even heard one rent-a-quote from some nobody saying how his music was so magical it would transport you to a whole new world.
What am I missing here?
Picture a world without Glam Rock, Punk, New Romanticism, Grunge ......................
David Bowie innovated most if not all of these movements, but he always seemed to be one step ahead of the curve. A true chameleon, he changed styles and emphasis so many times. A quick look at the late sixties/ early seventies discography through to the late 80s shows about ten changes of emphasis , image and direction musically.
Then from Ashes to Ashes /Fashion to China Girl and Let's dance, all seamlessly assumed new sounds/images. He must be the most successful re-inventor (of himself) in a cultural sense of all time. His legacy I don't think can be quantified, that's how great it is.

Didn't he win a best male Brit award at the grand old age of 65? That will never be beaten. Remember there was a big uproar on social media because the X factor generation had never heard of him.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
You know something? They don't make em like they used to, just so much uniqueness and character of rockstars/pop stars? Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Lemmie, Johnny Rotten, Ozzy Osbourne, Bryan Ferry etc etc............

Britain in itself probably leads the way in pop icons. It's the sheer quirkiness we have as a people that no other country can come close to emulating. People of real depth and substance, heroes all

The X factor should be solely comprised of Bowie footage to train the young performers next time out. And train them with no dubbing and real time live bands. And all R'n'B singers shold be turned away at the door. Show us something interesting!!!!!!!!!

Would you put Steve strange in there ?
Nolan sympathiser, clout expert, personal friend of Leigh Dineen, advocate and enforcer of porridge swallows.
The official inventor of the tit w@nk.
I would. Huge influence of 80's fashion. Bowie liked him, had him in this video. I think the both of them had a powerful influence in shaping the 80's for sure.

Really shocked by this. Only the other day he released what is now a farewell gift to us on his birthday.
He appealed to fans of all genres and backgrounds. There was no rules or boundaries with Bowie, he just did what he felt was right and it was always fresh and years beyond what his contemporaries were doing.
I remember a story that Jason Lytle once told me about Bowie. He turned up at Grandaddy's New York show and he was dressed up in a white suit. He looked out of place with everyone wearing t-shirts, baseball hats and plaid shirts. He loved the show and asked if he could come the next night to see them. Sure enough he turns up but this time dressed up in a plaid shirt, ripped jeans etc..
Jason asked him if he would like to come up and sing the refrain to a popular song they had off their latest album (He's simple, he's dumb, he's the pilot) - David politely refused and said I could not possibly do the song any justice and in any case I am here purely as a fan.
They did the song and that knob Chris Martin (from Coldplay who were supporting Grandaddy in the states at the time) ambled on stage a bit drunk and ruined the end of the song.
David said to Jason afterwards - "Jason, so sorry but I really wish I had taken up your offer now" and winked.

Nice to see the bt tower has Bowles name in lights. I expect Buckingham palace to have flag down, a minutes silence next week and live coverage of funeral on both bbc and itv.

Artist yes! musician nope! Blessings and thoughts to his folks
Have to disagree. One of the best lyricists around and always seemed to elevate songs above the mundane. I suppose this is why he seemed to capture people's imaginations.
He seemed to be a reasonably accomplished guitar player and apparently played keyboards but his voice was his main instrument and boy could he use it!
