I've got a terrible memory for the detail of games, but even I can remember how bad Portsmouth were. A that point it felt like a relegation fodder type loss. |

Kolli is far more suited as a player to Smyth than Celar though - only seen it once but at the time I thought he'd overhit it a touch, again. But Kolli had the aerial ability to stretch for it and turn it back into danger - which is exactly what Smyth needs. Those two together could actually work. |

Ok but, first half of that second half at least, we weren't playing on the break - we had them penned in like a half court press and Varane was monstering every attempt they made to try to get out. Changed a bit later on granted, and passing accuracy needs to improve. |

Really was. If he'd taken just a touch off it. He's getting used to the physical stuff too it seems. On those stats Bri, isn't the possession pretty similar to Saturday? Am guessing. No idea if this is tracked, but I'd love to see how much of our loss of % possession is down to the big decrease in passing back and forth among our defenders. I'd speculate it's most of it. Definitely going more direct, with less emphasis on that 'sucking them in and springing the trap' lark which sadly only seems to work less than a third of the time for us. |

I only saw the last 5 mins of the first half (thankfully) and the second half, but I actually thought we were excellent in that second half. Getting the ball back quicker than we have done for a while, attacking and defending in numbers, a decent mix of flair and toughness. And that move from Saito when he picked it up, moved forward, took 3 players out with one jink before shooting - that's what you want to pay to see. Last 15 mins was not really an issue, in fact we were a lot closer to their goal near the end. No idea what they must have been trying to do in the first half, but they didn't concede and were able to make meaningful adjustments. Found that very encouraging to be honest. |

That lino had an interesting game I thought. He looked a bit older than average and missed at least a couple of obvious fouls and frees early on. But he was good with the old flag! Also noticed him talking to Ashby on the throw in after his yellow for time wasting - he seemed to be saying "Hurry up or he's going to send you off" - the concern on his face was quite unusual. All around a bit of a character who I would welcome back. Smyth really got to Sainz too - they are definitely not on each other's Xmas card list. Seemed to amuse Jimmy at least. The handball not given caused a couple of grand mal seizures in the Norwich ranks, and they definitely had all of their toys out of the pram by full time. |

Thought he did really well to hold it together on Saturday. A measure of the man. RIP Eamonn Dunne |

Listening now finally. I love the humility and straight forwardness Mel has in describing it all: keepers that can catch the ball and keep it out of the net, defenders who can head and kick it, just having a sense that Cureton wouldn't work for us. Things often seem so overcomplicated these days. Great memories. I took liked Santos - remember him scoring against his old club Burnley with a header from a corner when we beat them 3-0. You could see it coming a mile away but nobody was able to block him. He used to go through strange inconsistent periods were one week he couldn't trap a bag of sand or head it at anything other than a bizarre angle, and the next week he'd have the ball under some strange spell. That was how I remembered it anyway. |

Was supposed to be going to Belfast at 9.45am today. Last night BA cancelled it and the only option they offered was 7 am on....Tuesday. Seems a bit much to have some flights take off on time, or with an hour or two delay, while some other travellers are getting a full two days of a delay. That'll teach me for only being a blue level member... Watched a big A380 go overhead earlier and it was certainly moving about a bit. |

Agree you do loose that height, to the extent that Madsen manages to use it (a bit better yesterday I thought). With Kolli in and Michi hopefully coming back you do have more of a focal point though, than Celar. And what's going on with Colback? Thought he might have been on the bench yesterday but no sign still. |

I'd leave Saito where he is and start to introduce Illy in Madsen's position. Keep him central and let him link up with Saito, which I think could be great. |

It was indeed very nearly 4-0, so fair play there my 6 fingered friend |

I must admit for the 3rd goal I genuinely couldn't get my head round one of our attackers not only robbing the ball through skill and guile, but outpacing, and scoring, all in one move. We do not, technically, I'm fairly sure I remember, ever own or are able to afford, those types, of what are they called, players. Worth cautioning it was against Norwich, who I thought other than Duffy were lambs to the slaughter for a strong, aggressive young player with a point to prove at this level. But he was quality. |

That Hooping Mad advice sounds good Ted, and I agree with Scot 1963's moral support - it's a complete quagmire. Something about that laptop is making the Sky free goals think it's a foreign machine. It is fixable - either by getting rid of whatever software is suggesting that, or getting a VPN to say you're in the UK, I think. |
