Plastic bottle tops stuck to plastic bottles
at 20:29 2 Aug 2024

I've been saving this subject for a premium moment like a hot Friday night such as this... so what's the reason for all plastic bottle tops now being stuck to the side of the twistable seal thing, to the extent that one has to move it out of the way before thirstily indulging in one's chosen beverage, or else break it off with extreme force?

Is it to make sure all the plastic gets recycled together and the tops don't get missed? Or is it a design feature that they all decided is a good idea, or something else I haven't thought of?

Any insight appreciated.

QPR History - Harry Young
at 20:52 3 Jun 2024

Hoping the history buffs on here can help a friend out.

He is putting together a history of Southall FC, and is looking to find out more about Harry Young, who played for both clubs and was a POW in world War 2.

Any info or pointers greatly appreciated.

Jimmy Dunne at RB - yay or indeed nay?
at 07:22 18 Feb 2024

That for me yesterday was a yay. Not long term but thought he looked on his toes and determined.

Not so good when he tried to do the odd fancy thing up the line and couldn't, but those three consecutive block tackles near the end were beautiful.

Need to renew mine after a couple of years and just wondering what peoples' opinion are.

I've got kaspersky which seems to have been fine - no major viral invasions I'm aware of.

70 quid for the next 2 years though, so wouldn't mind something slightly cheaper.

Any suggestions?

Just back
at 17:40 8 May 2023

Left 15 mins early. Never done that before but towards the end of that 1st half I had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity. Why am I sitting here with all this leg room when the two blokes either side of me have quite sensibly decided not to bother?

For all our decent effort and fragile positivity in the first 20 minutes all it took was for them to push their right back up on Illy and we were done. At that point you've got the wrong formation with the wrong players flailing about against a team that's not interested but may as well beat us because it's that easy. And Rob Dickie wasn't even the problem.

442 with no pace on the right (but he's staying), good bloke-but-supersub at best Chris Martin lumbering around up front, Amos holding the fort beside Field - in what universe is Amos one of a 2 in a 442? Did you agree to this Dobo?

Not much chat between players, quite a lot of arguments. Lowe when he came on didn't track his marker, didn't beat his marker, but watch him in the training video and he thinks he's the dogs bollocks.

The one bit of proper quality I saw in the second half was 'JCS' dummying the ball very nicely and slipping it to Willock who flicked it effortlessly with the outside of his boot to the left wing - and they can both fcuk off and stay fcuked off after this season as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway

Computer (iMac) help
at 10:28 19 Apr 2023

Wondering if anyone has some sage advice on what to do with my late 2012 iMac/piece of shit.

It's actually been great until now, but I got a Mac mini 2 a couple of weeks ago. To prepare for swapping things over I updated the OS on the iMac to Mojave and then migrated all my apps to the new computer using the migration assistant thing.

I then went back to try to move all the other files (2TB worth of photos etc) from the iMac to an external ssd and its been a disaster for the last week. I've tried everything I can in the recovery options short of using time machine to revert to an earlier state (my time machine backup drive isn't working - good timing).

Have reinstalled the operating system twice now, and afterwards it starts to transfer the files at a normal speed (to the external ssd) but then very quickly slows down to '2 days remaining' sort of speeds. I left it like that all day yesterday, and it was making very slow but steady progress, but came back to it this morning and it had crashed, temporarily damaging the not cheap 4TB ssd (managed to fix it using the disk utility on the new computer).

Have also tried transferring over wifi - glacially slow, I suppose because it was still relying on the iMac - and now I'm reluctant to get the new machine involved in case I fcuk up both of them - having seen what happened to the ssd.

Any ideas much appreciated. One thought is to just get a 4TB non-SSD drive and have another go at transferring, but I'm guessing I may need to take it to an expert and pay to get the files off at this point - if that's even possible.

Just need to ask a quick question to check if I'm going mad (and no it's not about the nature of modern domestic monetary instruments vis a vis state-driven intervention...)

The 1040 tax return you put in in April, did it say 2021 at the top or 2022? I need to submit this year's by the 15th and am only seeing 2021, which I sent last week to catch up on 2020...

Saturday definitely on?

A Q with no definite answer I know, but at what point do you think we can consider this definitely going ahead?

I need to get a ticket for a friend and don't want to go off a bit premature.

Related to that has any ST holder ever got the box office to let them transfer to a different seat for a single game? Doubt it but thought I'd ask.

Anybody on here go last night? A very enjoyable evening I thought - drinking by the side of the pitch in a relaxed atmosphere.

I can't say I came away with too much knowledge about the players we had out there tbh. Got a nice 10 second video of our second goal by Kayden Harrack - he definitely connected with it.

Their No. 6 was enormous.

Oh one thing worth mentioning: they announced at the end that they'll be letting QPR season tickets holders in for half price all season.

Selling tickets
at 10:42 12 Apr 2022

Can anyone recommend the best/easiest way to sell tickets online these days?

I could sell them back to ticketbastard, or there's stub-hub I see.

I'm not averse to making a modest profit on them if that's an option (nothing gougey) but don't want to have to travel to hand them over. Nor do I wish to scuffle with angry touts and get a cigar jammed in my eye or similar close quarter injury.

Shep Bush Empire tickets

Does anybody know if you walk in there are you able to buy a ticket without paying one or more of their fees?

I know some or most of this will be Ticketbastard's doing, but for one 35 quid ticket I've got a £4.40 service charge, a £1.75 facility charge and a £2.75 handling fee.

I also see the hilarious suggestion that if I want a 'classic paper souvenir ticket' I can give them another £2.95 and they'll post me it a week after the show.

Fcuking madness.

Can anybody else not be fcuked working?
at 14:32 13 Jan 2022

Just wondering. First week back for me after 2 off and I've done everything but what I'm supposed to.

Just had a coffee to 'really get down to it' and ended up trying to photograph magpies from my window for the last half hour. Tricky buggers they are. Cleaned out the fridge, resolved a long standing light-bulb issue. A few other things.

This working from home farce has its advantages but I find when the work ethic falls off it really does fall off. Can be quite isolating and even guilt inducing. Will need to catch up like a bastard at some point very soon.

Help remembering a player's name
at 16:35 2 Dec 2021

When Dominic Shimmin came to us in 2005 there was another Arsenal youth player who came with him. He was a left back, good physical presence bit of a unit - I remember him as having his hair shaved right down to the wood but that may not be accurate.

He ended up going to Harrow Borough for a handful of games and then drifting out of the game - said he had 'car trouble' believe it or not.

Does anyone remember his name?

(On a side note I still can't believe Shimmin didn't make it in the game.)

3 or 4 contenders but I'd give it to Stef for last night - the passing seemed back and he showed more energy than of late (Hunter, you will have a view mate I'm sure!).

4 or 5 really good balls forward, closing down the keeper in the latter stages, giving good advice to Dozzell about when to go for it - good all round game. Really hope that injury isn't much - his body language seemed ok I thought as he was going off. Very encouraging for him to be coming back into form now.

Jimmy D would be another for me - won everything and very composed - amazing how quickly he's made that position his own.

I had a good non-sexual stare at him last night from about 15 feet, and I'm not actually sure he is as porked up as I previously thought. Obviously he's no spring chicken.

I'm more wondering if he's still just a bit out of sorts mentally. It looked like Blackburn had a theory that he might be easy to get at - that cuff to the head he got was ridiculous not to have drawn a card - the fcuking lino was right there. Anyway.

They just had quite a good piece during the marathon coverage on the Foundation. Great explanation of the work.

I thought Mark was brilliant in the interview - spoke so well - very proud for us to be associated with the man.

They even managed to make the stadium look quite smart from the aerial shots which was quite some feat of cinematography.

Dozzell and Odubajo
at 21:37 24 Jul 2021

Thought he looked very promising today - like he'd been in that position for us for far more than a few weeks. Good awareness, making space for himself, excellent passing. Even I could see it.

Odubajo was quality too in a similar way. And he had another gear if needed. His obvious joy at the goal was great to see in a ground that's been so dormant for so long. Actually that was the main thing I felt siting there tbh - cannot believe what we've all been through, many worse than others.
