Even though it’s finished.

Big pressure on McNulty and his team to get two positive results before Christmas. The amount of teams bunched together who look to be going for two playoff spots is growing. Top five keep pulling away.

Not seen anything today, but those subs all seem way too late. When we’ve a squad with so many options you have to be utilising them earlier in tight games.

Does Jim not just give credit for what was done right and criticise, but not overly, the lack of end product.

Then I don’t know who, pretty much everyone on here has had issues with the way the club has been run off the field over the last few years.

Some might not post negatively about McNulty for various reasons including the situation in which he has had to manage the team. Not sure that can be criticised because, even though I too have misgivings, his record is quite good.

But the football is not good to watch - I find most matches 'frustrating' and the players don't seem to play with any belief in the manager's approach to the game.

When we play with pace it is good to watch. It’s not often enough though.

If anything, I think the players like overplaying too much.

Exactly - aren't they playing to the manager's tune though?

A good result even 1-0 can often mask a poor performance but both results and performances are becoming a problem for Jim. The post match interview gives the impression that he does not know how to solve the conundrum although the questions are hardly probing.

Personally I would take two scruffy wins this week but the players are starting to look bereft of confidence. Jim's record to date has been pretty good and he retains a lot of credit for last seasons heroics under difficult circumstances but the deterioration is marked.

The next part of the season will determine if he is still the man to lead us next year and he will need to think more carefully about attacking intent, squad rotation and a Plan B. I hope he can turn it round but needs to take more risks.

He has been well backed this year but there are 8-9 teams with real intent of the play offs and may strengthen in January. Next year the relegated teams are likely to be equally as strong so it wont be any easier.

Finally this is strong squad of players by NL standards and I think that they need to take some responsibility for our mini slump. It is is a time for the leaders to show their metal.

Apologies for not remembering exactly what he has said, but hasn't Jim said in the past he has looked at other clubs who have got out of the NL and said they have put processes in place to build and that takes time or something along those lines.

The highlights lasted 2 minutes 16 seconds. 20 seconds of which were used up before a ball was kicked. Great summary of the game. We played the better football but never looked like winning or losing, but we contrived to do so.
It was a poor watch. Fortunately I took some Christmas cards and a pen to the ground. Otherwise it would have been a complete waste of time!!!

Hardly rocket science, since (in the absence of spendthrift owners) that's what any team in any division would need to do, and exactly what all our competitors are trying to do

What we're more interested in is genuine signs of progression, both in general and during the course of games. As said before, the games over the holiday period are key, both in terms of regaining momentum, league position and crucially, morale

Well Rome wasn't built in a day and all that. Do we need to be more patient as fans and accept this is the start of the three season plan to get the club back into the EFL?

It could be argued that Dale have some of the most patient fans in the country

Those who've followed for decades will understand what i mean by that

It's not patience that's lacking James. As i pointed out earlier, we also know what progression looks like, KH being the prime example. It took him three and half years to achieve what no Dale manager had done for over 40 years, but we could see the progression happening - we could smell it, in fact, the excitement being palpable

What we're seeing right now looks and feels nothing like that. I'm not being unfair in comparing JM to KH, who was probably a once-in-our-lifetime's manager, just suggesting (as nordenblue described it) that it feels like we're playing with the handbrake left on, deliberately, and that's not a recipe for building either success or the fanbase

I am not in a panic yet and two cracking home perfromances this Tuesday and Saturday will get me all excited again thinking we can go 3 wins from 3 hence 9/9 come 5pm boxing day.

Just when we get a chance to kick on we fluff our lines.. most recently Eastleigh, then Wealdstone, then Dagenham...

Just one goal in the last 3 league games (270 + minutes of cut and thrust league football) is the one stand out statistic. That was a comedy own goal away at Gateshead.

I think the players have settled into a comfortable slippers mode. Part tactics, part leadership part culture they train full time and yet are starting to look nervy and toothless up front.

I am happy to see what the reaction is at home this Tuesday and Saturday and hope that we start playing to our strengths at pace but this is a recorded message that has echoed all season.

Unless the management and players have an upturn in form we could be in the bottom half of the table by 5pm on Saturday 21st December.

Tamworth & Boston both picked up of late... neither will be easy.

Come on Dale lets have some honest assessment of where we are at as a team have we the kahunas to become serial winners.

Indeed, Dale fans are extremely patient.

And similarly, Jim NcNulty is very very lucky to have a three year contract, with the full support of the board, and little or no dissent from a largely impassive fan base and he receives virtually no media criticism or questioning of any aspect of his performance as head coach of Rochdale football club.

As long as Simon Gauge is the managing Chairman, Jim will continue - irrespective of results on the pitch or whether anyone other than Simon Gauge thinks it resembles entertainment, Jim McNulty will be the head coach.

I would say fasten your seatbelts, but no seatbelts required for this ride.

James, I am now in my 7th decade of watching RAFC, 3 promotions, 4 relegations, and the only silverware I recall us ever winning was the Lancashire senior cup -- Twice! Once against Oldham and once against Bury with about 500 people in the ground!
How long do I have to wait before I see an attack minded team with a proper Centre Forward who can both shoot and head a ball and generally terrify defences?
Football is supposed to be a game of scoring goals, not scratching about playing in safe areas and hoping to win 1-0 thanks to a ricochet off someone's backside....This is supposed to be entertainment for Gods sake, not some sort of chess match played on grass... Lets just focus on scoring goals, as many as possible and if we lose 5-4 well done the other team, next time we will score 6!
20 games gone and 30% have been 1-0 wins or defeats.
Of 7 defeats 5 have been by a single goal and the other two were by 2 or more.
Oldham have scored Just 8 more goals and are 7 points above us, if we had scored 8 more goals in the games we have drawn or lost by a single goal we would be comfortably in the Play off positions with 11 more points...

I have 2 questions for JMc... 1) What is your best 11? 2) Do you believe its possible to score more goals or do you prefer to stop the opposition from scoring?

Simon Gauge or anyone else on the board would be extremely naive to think that supporters would put up with a team that fails to challenge at the top end of the National League. Losing these two home games would be bordering on a crisis and fans will rightly make their feelings clear.

Irrespective of results, the club is in dire need of someone with football knowledge off the pitch to assist the manager and report back to a board that is lacking in that area.

Agreed, but you and I agreeing, is meaningless. Because neither of us are the managing Co-chairman or in a position to influence him. The problem is with arrogant people, is they don’t have to deal with things like perceived naivety, they just motor on until at some point reality bites.

So we are talking about Cameron Ogden, who is hoping Gauge and McNulty can hold the fort while he sorts out the money. At some point he’s going to have a realisation that the local dream team is just not up to it and he’ll have to get his hands dirty. But in the meantime it’s going to be same old same old. Falling asleep while eating popcorn is inadvisable.

Hate to correct you but I think you will have seen 5 relegations...late fifties, walter joyce master piece, Colemanballs, the smiling irishman and the loss of our football league status.

Would have been more if we hadnt been protected by the closed shop on league status for the period until 1990s

Dammed lies and statistics .....

Dale league win % currently 50%.

Only two teams matched or bettered that in 2023-24 Chesterfield and Barnet.

a huge week coming up... i would just like the team to become much more ruthless.

Ah, school English Lit—where joy went to die. First, Kes. Absolute drivel. Then, To Kill a Mockingbird—apparently a "microcosm of life." Microcosm this, microcosm that. When exactly was I meant to use that word, eh?

Fast forward: Our free kick. Overthought it, fancied ourselves as Barcelona/City, then—bang! Sucker punch. Well-taken goal, mind you. A perfect microcosm (ugh) of us: jolly hockey sticks, crumpets on the lawn, and Big Jim fanboys making excuses.

Reality check:

Better players than last year, sure.
We’ll finish higher. Probably 9th or 10th. Yay.
Great managers build great teams. Jim builds… systems.
Don’t expect cup runs—systems don’t win trophies.
Owners and CEO couldn’t care less what we think, so stop whining.

Buckle up. It’s going to be a long, dull slog. Still, it could be worse—they could make us read A Tale of Two Cities. But that’s a rant for another day.

While it was laughable at times how Southampton conceded goals this season, it’s wrong to say there was a lack of success after a promotion!

There are some small signs of change though. When they start producing regularly stats of ‘goals conceded from possession in defensive third’ it’ll be the beginning of the end of this football cycle.
