I wouldn't even see him as a sub to be fair we have much better options even from the bench,he was woeful last game and somehow he manged to eclipse that today.
Are any of you lucky enough? on 22:07 - Jun 16 with 1924 views | TalkingSutty | Set off from home at 2pm to drive to the Premier Inn at Cribbs Causeway en route to Perrenporth for my brothers wedding, so missed all of the game, had it on the radio though. Great to beat the Welsh and is anybody really surprised that Hart cocked up or sterling failed to deliver? I predicted we wouldn't get through the group stage so was wrong with that. The annoying thing is, if we lose a bit of the fear factor and throw caution to the wind we could somehow end up progressing through to the final stages. It seems to me that Hodgson doesn't have a bloody clue what his best team is, he could be the weakest link in all of this. [Post edited 16 Jun 2016 22:09]

I agree with you about Hodgson. In my opinion he's an imposter and he certainly doesn't know his best team and his best system of playing. We were the better team today but Wales were poor. We'll get through I suppose but any of the top sides will have too much ability for us.

Are any of you lucky enough? on 16:44 - Jun 16 by D_Alien | Criticised Hodgson for his substitutions against Russia, but he called it right - start with the same eleven to give them a chance but change it early if it's not working. And... Rooney taking corners. I'm glad to see Hodgson not being too dogmatic about that. Someone said earlier about changes being forced, but that's how it always has been. Ramsey in 1966, Robson in 1986 & 1990 - all forced to make changes which then works out in the end. We have a very strong squad. It could be Kane or Sterling coming off the bench that makes a difference next time. Rooney was outstanding in his new role. Rashford looked dangerous too. Watching England can be bloody painful at times, but did I hear the commentator say it's the first time we've ever come from behind to win a game in a major tournament? We've got nothing to fear now, and as I've said previously it's about momentum. |

To be fair , you could argue that often managers teams evolve during a tournament, Beckham and Owen didn't start France 98, David Platt wasn't in the starting 11 at Italia 90 . I dont think any of us predicted Kane to have looked so out of sorts.

Good question (for once). I wondered the same thing, but at a guess I'd say it's because England's change strip is predominantly red, and the people who decide these things might've concluded it'd confuse some of the poor dears

I think we anticipated they would before the tournament though - from here the second round is a must, the quarters should be achievable, the semis are possible. None of the top sides has impressed so far - Germany were a bit lucky to get a point out of Poland (only saw 2nd half but Poland threw 2 points away in that), France have been v unimpressive so far against worse opposition than we have played, Portugal couldn't beat Iceland and Belgium were crap against Italy and are already struggling to get out of the group. didn't see Spain but will admit Italy looked very, very good.
Are any of you lucky enough? on 11:56 - Jun 17 with 1592 views | KenBoon | Since when has Hart been error prone? Going in to the tournament he was probably our only legit top class player. If he does start making errors then thankfully we've lots of good 'keepers in waiting. It's our one position where we have good backup. I thought Wales were utterly guff yesterday. They were lucky to beat Slovakia but I expected them to be better. We've not set the world on fire, but there's just something about us. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but nothing would surprise me in this tournament. The quality isn't as good as previous tournaments. Some very, very good players, but if Ronaldo or even Bale doesn't fire then there's nobody who i'd describe as world class.

One thing in our favour is the emergence of Dier and Ali - they look the real deal. Vardy had the last month of the season off - along with Alli, Sturridge has been out most of the season so if he can stay fit he's in top top shape, Rooney also had a long rest in Feb/March and has been a revelation in midfield the 2 games - just need to somehow get Wilshere into the team but Lallana has been superb also. We've 4 or 5 players there who will have hardly any season fatigue. Must mention Kyle Walker who has looked unstoppable down the right. Need to finish top and get a 3rd place team - then possibly Portugal in the Quarters - although they could be struggling now.

Rooneys surprised me, he's been maybe the player of the tournament up to now. He's found a role that he can blossom in and maybe prolong his career. Obviously he will have the odd poor game but the sceptics need to realise that is always going to happen, rather than shouting for change.

I agree the standard of the top teams doesn't seem to be what it was. It's early days yet though and I expect that quality will rise to the top. Yesterday's first half was as poor as poor can be. It was like a friendly game more than a grudge match. Second half was an improvement but until the extra time winner we didn't really look like breaking down their defence. I'd really love for us to do well but until we learn to turn our decent approach play into goals we'll never beat the top sides. We always look like we could concede a goal so we've got to score a couple to win. I like Rooney in midfield, it proves the old adage that good players can play anywhere. Regarding Joe Hart, that goal was an absolute schoolboy howler. If you'd have seen that on Firgrove you'd have to wonder what was going on. I'd back myself to keep that out. He was too far back on his line so he ended up more or less getting a glove on the ball when it was almost in the net. Why he was also stood to one side I'll never know. From that distance there's a case for not even having a wall.

Are any of you lucky enough? on 12:39 - Jun 16 by Scunnydale | Remember being in Boston for the start of the 2006 World Cup. The night before we were in an Irish bar (McGanns near TD Garden possibly) and the doormen who looked like Jay and Silent Bob told us to get there early in the morning. Irish breakfast and plenty of beers at about 7am. Great stuff! Remember later going to 'Cheers' and trying to explain to the barman why Trinidad & Tobago drawing with Sweden was a great result. |
For some reason the bar we were in after opening at 8:30 decided to close between 12 and 3 so we had to leave after the game, we ended up walking one street over to McGann's, exactly the same as it was 10 years ago, and yes it just round the corner from TD Garden.
Are any of you lucky enough? on 11:32 - Jun 20 with 1190 views | DaleiLama | Caught the Wales goal (unfortunately) and both England goals at CdG airport just before I flew home. Second half much more enjoyable. It was an HD feed, which kept freezing, blacking out and resetting with no commentary. Better than missing it altogether though. Watching tonight's game with dad and a few scoops. Much better!
