Lancs Or Mancs?? on 10:07 - Aug 13 with 7035 views | dingdangblue | The County of Greater Manchester was created from Manchester and also parts of Cheshire and Lancashire in 1974. Made up of ten boroughs, Greater Manchester is situated in the North-West of England. The Metropolitan Boroughs of Greater Manchester are (in alphabetical order): - Bolton - Bury - City of Manchester - Oldham - Rochdale - City of Salford - Stockport - Tameside - Trafford - Wigan [Post edited 13 Aug 2015 10:10]

Aye. A lot of the counties have changed over the years though. The Oval and Lords are both technically Greater London and not Surrey or Middlesex. Edgbaston is in West Midlands and not Warwickshire. Sure that'll be the case elsewhere too but they're the only ones I can think of right now.

Suppose there's not a lot they can do about it with Lancashire being at Old Trafford since 1864. It is a tad strange though I agree, I dont class Greater Manchester as a County but it obviously is now.

Lancs Or Mancs?? on 10:54 - Aug 13 with 6852 views | Albert_Whitehurst | I live in Brentford which many of us would class as Middlesex but I think it's been 'Greater London' since the mid-60s. Middlesex CCC play at St. John's Wood which is in the City of Westminster. Funny, when completing address details online that Middlesex is still available in the drop down boxes. Although I've been in Greater London all this time I've never been stabbed! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They'll soon be playing in a new county called "Northern Powerhouse" though god knows what Yorkshire folk will make of that! [Post edited 13 Aug 2015 11:07]

I in fact have an SK postcode and when I bought this house off the builders, the postal address was given to me as Cheshire. Just Googled it, and apparently, I now live in G Mcr. I'm sticking to Cheshire as it's easier to fill in forms that way, but I'll always be a Lancy lad at heart, even though my postcode was OL11 and it has since been GM modified!

According to the FORL website, in 1974 "the Government at that time stated that the "new counties" were administrative areas only, and that the boundaries of traditional counties such as Lancashire had not been changed. Unfortunately, the media refer to these administrative areas all too frequently and ignore the fact that places such as Barrow-in-Furness, Liverpool, Manchester, Warrington, etc. are still in Lancashire." [6] Our county is called Lancashire, not Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside or part of Cheshire.
Lancs Or Mancs?? on 19:20 - Aug 13 with 6077 views | LS27Rdale | The County of Greater Manchester was abolished in 1982, as an administrative organisation. Unfortunately, lots of people make out Manchester is the be all and end all. Rdale is actually not in a county anymore, apart from the traditional Lancashire Boundary. So PNE are in fact the only Lancashire team in the League Cup If big towns like scouse land and the Mancs, admit to being part of historical Lancashire, just like Leeds Sheffield, York Hull etc embrace being part of Yorkshire, then we can fcuk this GM nonsense off

I think it was in 1974 that Royal Mail said mail should be addressed Lancashire and not Greater Manchester

Lancs Or Mancs?? on 08:50 - Aug 14 with 5576 views | ColDale | For me, we're just Rochdale. But if you're talking Lancs and Mancs being two separate entities, then we're far more associated with Mancs than Lancs these days. We're covered in the MEN not the LEP, we're on Radio Manchester (City) not Radio Lancashire, and we've far more in common with Manchester than we have with the likes of Burnley, Preston etc, and it seems that there's been a real shift from Lancs to Mancs in the past twenty years. Mind you, never stuck Greater Mancs on an address label yet.
