The deciding factor is that Matty saw it as an opportunity he couldn't turn down. There endeth the story. If the player wants to move then nothing else is relevant.

As soon as Matty told the club that this was his wish then all that was left to do was get the best possible deal. I am as disappointed as we all are but those saying the club lacks ambition seem to have missed this rather obvious point.

The club will also feel disappointed but to stop the sale would have been an insult to the player and go against everything we stand for.

Just as a matter of interest - which side of the debate are the conservatives on? If I'm reading you right, those who're happy with the sale of Matty Done because of the finance/building aspect, are the conservatives.

But I can't be deemed to be both conservative and aggressive in the same week without a severe bout of schizophrenia!

Fair enough DA, I'll spare you that conflict

I was referring to conservative / aggressive purely in the financial "bird in the hand" sense! You can still be in the former camp and argue on here til you're blue in the face!

nail on head...contracts arent worth the paper they are written on..at least you get a fee..but they dont guarantee any loyalty..id never expect any loyalty at this level they need to earn whilst their value is strong ..

Think the stadium discussion is important.

If this sale helps the club take full ownership and full control of Spotland that will help us progress.

Hilly and the board playing a much longer game than orient at hone this Saturday.

The key is the additional revenues and I am sure we all agree we would rather see Dale with a sustainable £2 000 000 playing budget than a non sustainable £1 700 000 one.

Yes it's disappointing but let's get excited at what we have in Hendo Vincenti RNL and Brandy up top...

With the possibility of some loan additions if required.

One step back this so we can take two forward.

Another major advantage of cash in the bank is that we can wait for clubs to come to us wanting to buy our players rather than letting it be known we want to sell because we have a large invoice that needs paying. The difference in terms of where the negotiating power lies is huge. Equally when other clubs need to sell a player we are in
a position to make a cash bid on our terms . We have never been in this position before .....I like it.
