The second half was significantly better. A lot more energy and progression in our play typified by Odoh winning the ball of their player who was about a foot taller and then a few minutes later his positive mazy run won the penalty for the first.

Sereki made some really good runs and Nelson looked strong. Rodney kept going and could have had a hat trick on another day. Ball was better as was our defending of set pieces.

Let there be no doubt that tonight was the perfect example of why supporters who are both fair and able to accept the position the club is in get frustrated. We don’t need to be told to be more positive or that all is well with the world because we can often see what’s wrong and offer an opinion on that. It’s healthy to do so as those opinions, when made without silly abuse, make us the club we are and part of the response over the last year or so.
It’s been acknowledged that getting players on the pitch who look to get at the opposition with an ambition to get the ball forward into dangerous areas is where we’ve succeeded under Stockdale.

Formations are rarely the problem, that was perfectly illustrated tonight because we have players who look pretty good when we put the ball in forward areas. The pressure was on, Stockdale and his players responded. It can be debated for forever as to what level of pressure there is after two games, but it was pressure nevertheless. Well done to the manager and his team.

Note: Rodney has all the attributes to make us serious money. Positivity indeed.

Note 2: the support from the Sandy was excellent. They really created an atmosphere and one which lifted the team. As long as there’s a bit of self-policing over things like jumping over the wall when we score and not going too far, there’s a chance we could have found something to finally get a good atmosphere at all home games. Well done to all those who’ve worked to organise it.

Odoh did exactly that at Gillingham and it really stood out. He's a pocket rocket when he's on his game.

Excellent win AND clean sheet.

Good points on all those players. Lost within a victory and how much better we looked as a threat in the second half was that the back three all played well with Nelson calmness personified. I like how he gets rid when necessary too.

On note 2, I agree the support was excellent, but as I’ve said previously I thought it was to get behind the players.

Chants of “going to Barnet” next season and “we’ve had a shot” just aren’t necessary. They need to make their minds up about what they want to achieve.

I enjoyed tonight.

Apart from a shaky 20 mins spread across the first 60 we looked good, positive, aggressive.

Tulloch looks a talent - fast, strong and unpredictable. Slicker's distribution looks fantastic, and he really didn't want to be subbed off despite what looked initially like a bad turn of the ankle.

The goal for Ball will do him the world of good, & Odoh was like a different player.

I don't usually sit in the main stand, but a few around me remarked how much more vocal Stockdale was tonight... if that is the case, hopefully he is finding his voice and his bite. Work still to do, but tonight showed shoots of recovery, we just need to see it consistently.

Final thought - the noise from the Sandy was great... against a silent opposition crowd, they kept going and made a decent amount of noise.

On to Saturday - more of the same please.

It is almost like he has lacked conviction but that run for the penalty was what he should be doing more consistently. Now it won't always come off but with his pace and low centre of gravity he is a threat. I was as pleased with his defensive work tonight especially his desire. If he continues to play like this we don't need another LWB.

From the beeb 'The victory was no more than Rochdale deserved as they had the clearest chances of the night.

After losing their first two league matches, the win was a confidence-builder for Robbie Stockdale's side as they outplayed the Brewers for much of the night.

But it was another setback for Burton manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, whose side have lost all three league and cup games so far and were clearly lacking in confidence'.

Sounds like all the stars aligned in our favour tonight. A good performance against a higher placed club going through a dip and in the bag for the next round.

Ominously, for Saturday, Grimsby battered Crewe 4-0.

Yeah and it’s good that there’s been a bit of organisation behind it because they can address those issues. Trying to be positive you see…

Supporting the team wise throughout an entire game, it’s as good as there’s been in a long time at a home match.

The report of that run is what's made me smile most tonight. There is so much triangulated passing at all levels of football now in build up play, that the art of dribbling (and defending it) seemed to be dying out. Does my heart good to know we have one. Fully agree - more please

I thought Burton were intent on on trying to out muscle us and was pleased with the way we collectively stood up to them. There was a really poor tackle just before the penalty which should really have been a red card and it was notable that Ball was in the Refs ear about it. Nelson added real strength at the back and clearly wasnt taking any crap from their centre forward who eventually went off injured after a clash between the two. Rodney needs to learn to head a ball, but overall miles better, the kids are learning when to scrap and still play decent football. The energy levels were great and they will obviously be well chuffed with themsleves to win. Hopes raised, onwards and upwards!

The failure to show a red card for that deliberate and dangerous trip against a player who was in 'full flow' was a disgrace. Red card all day long. Ball was right to be in the referee's ear. It was a shocking decision.

There was a lot of it. Fluid 3-4-3, playing on the counter and lots of players running at them, worked to a tee. Would be fantastic to see every week but we know full well it wouldn't work against some teams

Rodney’s ability to muscle his way past defenders then put on a burst of speed to leave them in his wake is a joy to behold. If he can keep that up he will become one of our stars.

Well that was my first game of the season and I really don't know what you've all been moaning about 😂.

Firstly off the field. Moggy banner and ladders in the Pearl Street was a great touch. The Sandy did him proud and despite the low attendance having the Pearl Street closed helped generate a decent home atmosphere. Hopefully that's the lowest attendance we see! Although there was a cheer when they came on I'm sure it was saving some pennies and only turning the spotlights on when required. Energy bills have quadrupled for businesses! Another saving the club could make is on the match day announcer as I heard none of what he said all match. The 4th officials board failed as well so didn't have a clue how much added time we were playing.

On the field we were athletic and strong showing a desire that sounds like has been missing. 5-4-1 without the ball and 3-4-2-1 with it is how I'd describe the formation. Sinclair and Tulloch as the 2 advanced midfielders they played much wider in the second half and seemed to have a good impact. We were resolute in our defending and quick and direct in the attack.

First half we were the better team but only created half chances. Second half Burton seemed to tire and there tactical changes backfired. Especially bringing a big lad on to go one on one with Odoh. Odoh bossed it and used his strength brilliantly took the ball off him and came away with it several times. Sinclair played well but he's greedy, you don't mind if they go in but tonight they didn't. I think Tulloch was missing in the first half but grew into the second think it's a bit unfair to judge his performance with him hardly knowing the players. Rodney could be brilliant and his goal was superb he had a similar effort earlier saved so was glad to see him put that one away. Back 3 were solid so were the deep lying midfielders Toums and Ball. Seriki like Odoh had a great game as well and was one of our more attacking threats in both halves making some good runs, should have worked the keeper in the first half.

Now we need some points!

When the 4th Official told RS that there were 7 added minutes, he couldn't believe it and asked how on earth that could be. Nowhere was it announced, by anyone.

First half I thought 3 added minutes was a bit short with the stoppages. Only really the keeper in the second half I think. Not the worst officials we've had but bottled a few big calls luckily he gave the penalty I wasn't sure he would.

The penalty was 1 of the most clear you'll ever see. Odoh
completely wrongfooted the defender and he took his legs. To be fair the ref pointed straight to the spot - no hesitation. Not quite sure what the Burton keeper was arguing about?

I'd have thought they were arguing about a Sinclair handball in the build-up (which I think would have been a fair call) but on the highlights, they seem to be arguing that it was outside the box (it wasn't)

Yes I think they were arguing about whether it was in the box. Not seen the highlights but in real time I thought it was a penalty but one of those the ref could have made the decision for a free kick.

allowed Burton's physicality too much free rein early on but letting the game continue after Rodney was fouled for his first one-on-one was excellent refereeing
