I just been watching the news. Looking nasty in Italy.

My methods are not favoured by some but by god i speak the truth.

If it's eosinophilic asthma, one puff would do nothing. Tbh, Clenil is a pretty rubbish inhaler anyway.

No it would not. I use Qvar beclamethasone. Not had an acute attack since going onto the Qvar best part of 20 years ago now I guess. Big improvement in delivery over the traditional inhaler.

I’ve let my son stop using his.

I've seen so many people that have gone to the doctors with a wheeze and tightness and just had inhalers thrown at them. Then it turns out they didn't have asthma.

Ever since my son was... never conceived, because I've never had consensual sex without money involved... I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.

Still beclometasone though, although improvements to delivery and molecule size from the initial trials which my grandfather was part of. I just think there are better inhaled corticosteroids these days, but there is certainly an element of different inhalers for different people.

Surely you've been part of COBRA contingency meetings at your place of work? It's different for those of us who work for SME's, this thing could put the company through if it hit certain departments. Better to be prepared IMO.

My youngest was hospitalised with bronchiolitis as a baby and when he was a bit older the docs couldn't wait to put him on steroids. I wasn't keen at the time but I understood the reasoning. When he was about eight he developed a type of psoriasis which was diagnosed in five seconds in Sancta Maria after about 12 months of visits to the local quacks, who offered misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis and multiple additional steroids. Specialists offered nothing else, they are drug salesmen that want to pump our children full of steroids and give short thrift to the idea of holistic and herbal treatment.

Small companies will be really badly hit if this continues, as will the self employed and sole traders. It’s not good on any level.

Yes Coronavirus isn’t something anymore wants......but there is definitely scaremongering going on.
Take Germany for example. Angela Merkel has said upto 70 % of Germans (58 million) may develop Coronavirus, yet virologist and former German government advisor on disease control Professor Alexander Kekule has gone on record and stated the worst case scenario is 40,000 cases of Coronavirus in Germany.

The maiin U.K. projection is 80000 to 100000 cases. There are some models which go into millions...

All models are wrong,
But some are useful

I was in Japan from September to November last year, all around the country ending with a couple of weeks in Yokohama. During the month I spent in Oita I had all the mild symptoms - dry cough, headache, fluey type aches in the bones, it lasted a couple of weeks and then went. People I was with had come from a sporting event in Wuhan the previous month. I have no doubt in my mind that I have previously experienced this type of virus, as have many others.

Yes, some of the symptoms are quite distinct from seasonal flu

Some 10 years after my diagnosis a new doctor told me he thought it had been a mistake, he said my lung capacity should have been better even with asthma (at 28) and put me on steroids for a month, I improved no end and had no problems since.
He reckoned I'd probably had an infection which, because it hadn't been properly treated, had weakened my lungs and they hadn't recovered properly. I was fitter at 30 than at 20. That first doctors bad diagnosis had a massive effect on my life. It's why I'm always questioning things, we can't just accept without asking, people get things wrong.

So back to the Corona virus, lets hope the doctors are right, be sensible, follow the advice and stop feckin panicking!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

My wife had this from one of her Facebook friends.

"I am writing to you from Bergamo, Italy, at the heart of the coronavirus crisis. The news media in the US has not captured the severity of what is happening here. I am writing this post because each of you, today, not the government, not the school district, not the mayor, each individual citizen has the chance, today to take actions that will deter the Italian situation from becoming your own country’s reality. The only way to stop this virus is to limit contagion. And the only way to limit contagion is for millions of people to change their behavior today.

If you are in Europe or the US you are weeks away from where we are today in Italy.

I can hear you now. “It’s just a flu. It only affects old people with preconditions”

There are 2 reasons why Coronavirus has brought Italy to it’s knees. First it is a flu is devastating when people get really sick they need weeks of ICU — and, second, because of how fast and effectively it spreads. There is 2 week incubation period and many who have it never show symptoms.

When Prime Minister Conte announced last night that the entire country, 60 million people, would go on lock down, the line that struck me most was “there is no more time.” Because to be clear, this national lock down, is a hail mary. What he means is that if the numbers of contagion do not start to go down, the system, Italy, will collapse.

Why? Today the ICUs in Lombardy are at capacity — more than capacity. They have begun to put ICU units in the hallways. If the numbers do not go down, the growth rate of contagion tells us that there will be thousands of people who in a matter of a week? two weeks? who will need care. What will happen when there are 100, or a 1000 people who need the hospital and only a few ICU places left?

On Monday a doctor wrote in the paper that they have begun to have to decide who lives and who dies when the patients show up in the emergency room, like what is done in war. This will only get worse.

There are a finite number of drs, nurses, medical staff and they are getting the virus. They have also been working non-stop, non-stop for days and days. What happens when the drs, nurses and medical staff are simply not able to care for the patients, when they are not there?

And finally for those who say that this is just something that happens to old people, starting yesterday the hospitals are reporting that younger and younger patients — 40, 45, 18, are coming in for treatment.

You have a chance to make a difference and stop the spread in your country. Push for the entire office to work at home today, cancel birthday parties, and other gatherings, stay home as much as you can. If you have a fever, any fever, stay home. Push for school closures, now. Anything you can do to stop the spread, because it is spreading in your communities — there is a two week incubation period — and if you do these things now you can buy your medical system time.

And for those who say it is not possible to close the schools, and do all these other things, locking down Italy was beyond anyone’s imagination a week ago.

Soon you will not have a choice, so do what you can now.

Please share."

I don't doubt the seriousness of it all but these FB posts seem to pop up with anything and everything.... One housewife shares it and within no time it spreads between the FB housewifes quicker than corona virus itself.

Granted, one day the old "cry wolf" scenario might happen but c'mon for gods sake.

What are your views on the China situation and what we can learn from it?
@Professor - I would welcome your feedback here.

- Wuhan was locked down several weeks ago and with strict enforcement from the authorities; there was a zero tolerance policy. Can we assume that the actions taken several weeks back are now being seen in the slow down of new cases in China?
- Do we trust the China data in the first place?
- Assuming that there is a link between Wuhan lock down and today's China statistics then can we expect a similar ripple effect to become apparent in Italy in a week or two? In my mind we should expect to see this (however I do also hear some first hand evidence that the Italian lock down is not as strong as explained in the media).
- In my opinion the UK authorities have been too slow at initiating the 'delay' phase of the response plan but even when it does do this then is the effectiveness reduced if our near neighbours don't do the same?

I hear what you say. However in my opinion in these days of short attention spans and soundbites I think we need to frighten the general public into changing behaviour.

You can stick your head in the sand as long as you like but you need to think about how your actions could affect others

I agree with you, action does need to be taken. It needs to be sensible and calm though, these FB messages as true as they can be will unfortunately stir up a bigger frenzy than is required.
