Swansea City v Preston North End : Matchday Thread AFTERMATH 10:19 - Apr 4 with 20475 viewsNotLoyal

It’s another side with a new manager after another new manager embarrassed Steve Cooper who used to be a new manager before he became a slightly older one. That pathetic, gutless, outrageously poor and ridiculous performance by the swans in Birmingham has better not repeat itself or I for one will be very angry and objectionable ( again )

Swansea City v Preston North End
EFL Championship
Monday 5th April 2021
Liberty Stadium
Kick off 3pm

Match Officials
PETER BANKES
James Mainwaring and Nick Greenhalgh
Fourth Official : Sam Allison

LIVE ON SWANS TV

Swansea City need a win not only boost their confidence as they stutter over the play off line in what has been a torrid and unprofessional time for Steve Cooper and his swans team.

Here’s Peter, he used to work in a bank before he became a referee, he wasn’t a bank teller he was actually a cash point. Being the first human cash point meant a lot to Peter, so much so he Often visits them today to chat, reminisce and gently gaze in to each other’s eyes if he finds one he especially likes. He is a ably assisted by James Mainwaring from Dads Army.

Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair joined the Jacks in the summer of 2010 and was an integral part of the that took them to the Premier League for the very first time the following summer, scoring a hat-trick at Wembley as the Swans defeated Reading 4-2 to earn a place at the top table of English football. He spent two years at the Liberty Stadium, before joined Manchester City, scoring 36 goals in 92 appearances — having made his home debut in a game against the Lilywhites, of all people.

Looking to the Bank Holiday clash with Steve Cooper’s side it could be Scott’s first appearance at the ground, since leaving for the Etihad: “I have great memories of my time there,” he recalled. “I was reflecting the other day that it was ten years since the Play-Off Final. “It is a great club, but we will be going there to try and get the three points and hopefully we can come away with the win. “There are a couple of people still there from my time at the club. The squad has changed a lot since I was there, but there are still a couple of old faces and it will be nice to see them.

Swansea City record v PNE
Games won: 26
Games drawn: 18

The swans have lost only two games from the last seventeen meetings. PNE have beaten Swansea four times away in sixty four meetings. The last time was in 1961, before that 1934. In the last twenty five meetings PNE a have won only five times.

The team matters not when it plays in his image. We hoped they might also have a different attitude, and maybe, just maybe, be coached to pass to each other and move. I know, ridiculous.

What an utterly pathetic performance. I was embarrassed. It was like watching children play the way they kept passing it to Preston players. It was one of those games where, at the end I just didn't care what happens next.

And if they carry on like that I hope we don't stumble into the playoffs because that would REALLY be embarrassing.

I've written this not having read any other post match comments because that would depress me even further.

I never thought I'd see a weaker midfield player that Matty Grimes, but Hourihane is certainly competing with him for the title.
Ayew and Lowe are looking like very old men now, the question is, how much of that is physical, and how much is mental? I'm sure that the answer to that is on a laptop and available to management, but the two appear to have run out of gas. Our midfield has been weak all season, so our recent dip is not really due to any problems there.
When a team gets into this position nearing the end of the season, a good captain can make or break things for you. But that's Grimes fault, he should never have been given the captaincy in the first place.
We would benefit from a lot more shouting on the pitch, and coming from someone with authority and gravitas.

Yes, and at last some analysis. Indeed, that sounds like the players not doing the business.

Exactly right.

He's a useless coach. He's spent 20 months selling any flair or pace and coaching anything good out of the players on the altar of shape and hoof.

What he needs to do now is f**k off.

How's that?

What a cop out.
Of course the Manager has no responsibility for how his players play.
That is why so many of them get sacked when the team doesn't play well.

There is no shame in being wrong.
Nobody is any better a fan than anyone else.

The players are being killed by Cooper. It's a simple as that.

Remember our almost impossible fall from the Prem where we lost ALL remaining games.

This could happen here.

The team and manager are lucky there are no fans there today.

The anger at full time, well through the game would be deafening.

No shots on target and no goalkeeper saves by them.
[Post edited 5 Apr 2021 17:14]

If this happened in just one game we'd be annoyed but we've had fewer shots on target in the last 4 games than most teams have in one game.

Rotherham are poor, got done 3 nil at home today but had 19 shots, 7 on target.

Derby lots 3-1 but 12 shots 5 on target.

Even Cardiff, who are 3 nil down right now have managed 2 shots on target out of 3 in the first half.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Pass and move into space to provide the ball carrier with options is the most basic of football philosophies. We don't do this any more. The ball carrier has no options because players aren't moving into space and with no other options a ball is played to someone already under pressure from an opponent. It invariably results in the loss of possession and it's why we rarely string a number of passes together any more. The players don't appear to be playing for each other and are happy to get rid of the ball so they aren't the one who makes the mistake.

I totally agree, we certainly do very little running off the ball (some may call it being lazy|), and when anyone does, he isn't given the ball, or the pass is either over/under hit.

Over the years there have been many successful footballers with limited ability, but, what they lacked in ability they made up with work, drive and passion, sadly, the only comparison of the above with our players is "limited ability".

Every single one of them should hang their heads in shame.

Matt Grimes has been one of our best players for some time, gets his foot in and reads the game well. Is guilty at times of forcing the issue but who can blame him. Ayew has been stealing a living for quite some time thats why he is still here despite some fans thinking he is Messi. Jamal has descended as quick as he ascended and has struggled big time, doesnt have the brain to get out of slump.

Our midfield and defence has been strong most of the season thats why we are where we are. Its hard work in midfield when you never have an out ball or your front pair cant hold it up. And as for the captain issue most people wanted Ayew which was a joke at the time and looks hilarious now. As for the shouting turn your TV up and listen.

This side going up would be a miracle and would need surgery that could potentially ruin our club as i reckon only a handful of players could step up and some of them would struggle, thats if they stay. Ive said before we need to build a foundation of young 26 and under players on decent wages on long term contracts to go up and compete. The likes of Gibbs-White looked promising and Ghuehi were the type of players to chance big fees/wages on, and i agree Woodman was worth a punt but jury's out as he has a mistake in him that looks as if it cant be coached out.

The problem we have now is Cooper doesnt know whether to stick or twist, but today should have clarified a few things selection wise. In my opinion we cant transition from midfield quickly as our wing backs have been sussed out and our forward line cant hold their breath let alone the ball. Whittaker must play all of the remaining games to give us an idea what he is capable of, extra weatabix required for him to stay off his arse. Conor Hooligan can go back immediately as he offers sod all. id rather play Cooper or Dhanda as they can run and are ours, same goes for Benda if he was fit.

As much as i love the Swans i dont know how i would feel if this team got promoted, the money would be ok i suppose if spent wisely but a season of sitting at the Liberty with my head in my hands and lets be honest another coach or two doesnt exactly excite me as much as the pubs opening.

Sorry for the diatribe but im miffed big time.

I agree with much of that but disagree about the midfield. What do they create? Even when a forward ball is on they turn back, Ayew does too mind.

Take today, we all know Lowe has no left foot, he won't use it yet when Manning played a forward pass it was down Lowe's left side, even if he'd controlled it he would have turned away from goal, as it was he didn't reach it though may have if he'd use his left.

Whittaker, why play him on the right when Ayew is a wide player. He takes pegs and puts them in the wrong holes. No wonder players are under performing. You wouldn't take a sports car and send it to plough a field, you wouldn't make a Shire horse run the Grand national and you shouldn't make players play out of position when we are so crap.
Couldn't we have put Lowe on the right, Ayew on the left and Whittaker through the middle? Would it be so wrong to try?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Catullus, i know where you are coming from, but the manager sees them in training and i think the players need to take the responsibility, as for playing AA and lowe on the wings they both are one footed so like to cut in. In fact i cant remember a Swans team where we have had so many , Ayew and Grimes Bidwell Hooligan Manning plus more if i think and all lefties.

Jack59, somebody said you make your own luck and i honestly think our midfield and defence has been keeping us in matches for us to compete, i agree it seems lucky but clean sheets dont lie.

I was discussing the Swans today with some ex semi pro players and someone remarked what would have happened if Cooper had Ayew of the pay roll at the start of the season. Ayew and Lowe just dont gel and with some bad luck with injuries we are snookered. Im not making excuses for Cooper but just stating he can only play the team he's got.

Nearly all central midfield players can use their weaker foot. They don't turn completely around so as to use their best foot.
