Hard not to feel a little sorry for Toni. Being made captain without kicking a ball in the country then to be singled out like he has been, unusual to say the least and he must be mortified by it all.

I suppose i respect how much Mark Warburton is sticking to his principles. Clearly, he really doesn't rate Toni. He didn't seem noticeably any worse on the ball than our usual defenders, though, did he? It's not easy to tell on the stream, so i'll bow to our management on that one.

It proves how important not changing managers every year/half a year is and also proves at least one of McLaren or Warburton are total idiots. I know my guess as to who.

Except it's not an alternative opinion because no one's saying Leistner isn't good at what he's good at. Play a high line and build out from the back and not only is Leistner not so commanding individually but the entire MW gameplan begins to disintegrate, is what he's saying.

I know exactly what he's saying. But firstly we haven't got the personnel through the door who can play that way as of yet. And as much as it's nice to believe we'll be playing this high press football out from the back which Barbet is suited for. Don't forget there'll be times we don't have the ball and need to defend . And I'm not sure that's one of Barbet's strong points.

What it comes down to is you can't have it both ways.

You go with Warbs and how he is building the team or you go with Leistner and say f*ck the system.

Which is fine, but you can't then sack Warbs at the first sign of trouble (which we've been a bit prone to do, and our glorious Twitterati wanted at several points last season) and if we do then you can't appoint Gareth Ainsworth to replace him (which we almost certainly would).

The problem with going with whatever the current manager wants when you're QPR is the manager changes all the bloody time and we never replace him with anybody remotely similar in style.

I'm not saying F**K the system. I'm saying we need a big squad and Leistner is worthy of a place in it.

At some point you have to trust that the current regime are going to avoid making the same mistakes all over again.

Chris Ramsey made the point that they are looking for adaptability and flexibility in players as far as systems and managers are concerned. Nice idea, not sure that's easy to achieve. But it is a hint that they will reject players, dare I say like Leistner.

Not if the manager is only going to play him in two cup matches.

And a big squad is absolutely not the intention.

Indeed, not just Leistner either, Smyth another for instance who died a bit of a death after a change of manager.

Hopefully the Wimbledon game indicates there is a chance for Smyth yet. I like the lad's work rate, although he could be similar enough to Thomas in that regard. Just wondering who will provide the creative spark this season?

I still don't get this but fair play to the club, they know what they are doing and clearly have a plan for the short, mid and long term and I have every faith in them.

I'm sure we'll be investing in the squad as well as giving opportunities to the U23's so we have a fighting chance this coming season.

Good luck to BFG MkII - I always liked him even after missing putting my regular bet on him for first goal (usually about 45/1) and he went and done it at Reading away on a Tuesday night.
All zee best Toni mon liege

So we offered him around to clubs, presumably for free, and nobody bit. Then we paid him off. Then he suddenly gets a deal at Hamburg. Have we been mugged orf?

Hm. Don't like the sound of it.

I expect his new deal with Hamburg is on a lower wage than the one he had with us. So we’ve had to come to an agreement with Toni to cover the difference. Glad it’s settled personally.

Makes sense, forgot he was on a rumoured 20 bags (mental) and that Hamburg are in Bundesliga II (also mental)

Yeah agreed but it’s sure sign your paying someone too much when you literally can’t give them away.

Agreed, but there's also the strange situation that no-one would buy him even if we agreed to cover some of the remaining wages. In 18/19 he was captain of a Chapionship team and an at-par centre-back.

Let’s hope the club don’t go spending the Eze money on players from aboard as that’s not worked one iota

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Maybe part of the reason things didn't work out with Penrice?

I'm honestly purely guessing. But he did come in with a big reputation on Continental scouting.
