Always liked Joe as a player, but come on, £13 million for a player in the final year of his deal who isn't wanted by his club?...........inflated market or not..
Central midfield is not an area we're desperate to strengthen either.
If we gazumped them and he signed, I'd not be unhappy due to how much I rate him, but equally, I can see why we've balked at matching Stoke.
People can get too fixed on a player - a month or so ago Joe was hardly on people's radar, and suddenly we're relegated to the Evostick league if we don't sign him whatever the cost.... |
As far as I am concerned if we weren't prepared to pay the price asked - fair enough. That's how it goes.
Disappointing but confirming what many of us thought that the £30-50 million press speculation about team investment is likely to be a load of guff.

I would think we will be ok. We have weak areas, but I'd imagine Gylfi behind Ayew with two narrow wingers will get us goals. We are in trouble if either of them get injured of course.
There will be weaker teams than us, albeit with recognised strikers.
I think the squad we have as it is is good enough to stay up and not a lot more. Massive gamble if we start the season just aiming to avoid relegation though. |
The only 2 sides I see certainly worse than us st the moment are Hull & Burnley
Lack of ambition will probably get Gylfi & Ayew wondering if it is worth staying as well
I am still hoping we are looking at better than HRK as a striking option personally I'd rather of stuck with Gomis and he effing awful |  | | |

Team needs strengthening not just in the attacking areas, right back area maybe left back as well winger needed and two strikers, but it doesn't look like anything is gonna be done, we'll probably get a loanee or two in and HRK and that'll be it. |

As things stand I think Oliver McBradfordReservie is our main man up front going into the league season. We need to focus our resources on forwards, and possibly a full-back and a winger as well.
I think we'll get players in of sufficient calibre in the end, I'm not concerned about that. I'm worried about players leaving though - notably Gylfi. I'd be amazed if Ayew is still here come the end of the window as well. |  |

I don't think Ayew and his agent are particularly concerned about who we're trying to sign. We all knew the deal with Ayew: he comes here, has a good season at his 'stepping stone' club, then get's his move to a big club 'a la Bony'. I'm sure he and his agent are working furiously to stick to that plan. As long as we get £25-30 million, can't complain.
Gylfi is slightly different as he's already been there and got the t-shirt and that t-shirt might state 'once bitten, twice shy'. | |

Indeed..... Personally Allen at 13 million seems about right to me when you take into acount Wijnaldum goes for 25 million Sissoko being touted for around 15 million Deeny 25 million plus. | | | |
