Saints Look To Famous Liverpool Thoroughfare For Win At Anfield
Friday, 31st Jan 2020 08:58

Liverpool has many famous thoroughfares some immortalised in song by the Beatles, but it is perhaps one not so well known outside of Merseyside that Saints will be looking to as they strive to end Liverpool's unbeaten run this season.

If you analyse Saturday's game at Anfield on Saturday there aren't many indications that Liverpool a team unbeaten in the Premier League for over a year and with a record of 23 wins and a draw in 24 games this season will drop any points against Saints a team who only a few months ago were in disarray.

Man for man the Liverpool team are better than Saints, they are playing at Anfield where they have not lost in the Premier League since Crystal Palace beat them in April 2017 almost three years ago, they are the best team in the World with arguably one of the World's top three players in Salah.

They not only have a World class starting XI, but they could put out a second team full of players who would get into literally every other side in the Premier League bar Manchester City, add to that an academy side that beat Everton's full first team in the FA Cup 3rd round and you can't find much to be positive about that indicates that Saints can even draw there let alone win.

But we do have one thing and that is HOPE, this is what sustains football fans of every team. whether you are a Liverpool fan or a fan of a non league team, it is hope that keeps you going, hope that once in a season even in a decade you get that result against overwhelming odds and triumph.

That is what we had in 1976 when we went to Wembley with everyone predicting a Manchester United landslide, yet we won, that is al we had when we looked dead and buried two years ago with 4 games left of the season, that is what all that fans have left as the game goes into extra time and you are a goal down and barely had a shot on goal, the situations are numerous, but sometimes just sometimes hope may be all you have but it sees you through and you get a result or a late goal against all the odds.

So we go to Anfield with our hopes pinned on HOPE and perhaps a little on Danny Ings and a bit more on VAR, but stranger things have happened.

What has this got to do with a Liverpool thoroughfare you may ask, well there are many famous streets on Merseyside, Lime Street where the City's railway station is situated is one, Mathew Street home of the Cavern is known throughout the World and then there is Penny Lane and of course Anfield Road which Saints fans will walk down and enter that end of the ground.

But it is Hope Street from where our salvation may lay, it is famous on Merseyside as the street that connects the two cathedrals, at one end is the Catholic Cathedral and at the other end is the Protestant Cathedral, we will perhaps also need to pray a lot both before and during the game so this street is aptly named.

Perhaps this game will be one of those where suddenly everything goes our way and we get a result that like Four lads from Liverpool will shake the World, if we do then we will cheer it on Anfield Road, celebrate it on Mathew Street, but we will have built it on Hope Street.

A win at Anfield seems unlikely....but, but..they have got to lose at one stage. It would be bittersweet if it were Southampton FC who ends the long unbeaten run. Looking at the arrogant and, frankly disgraceful way they managed to prize away some of our players, it would be karma to say the least. But....they may also give us a good hiding... One thing is assured....this Scummer has no time for Liverpool FC and the antics of their supposedly god like manager. PLEASE let it be us to shut them up!

HOPE a false Prophet.. Happy to lose this one as it would be nice to see Liverpool go unbeaten all season, and that's coming from a man who hated them during the '80s when we missed out on Cup finals and a League win at the hands of Scousers..

wibbers ...... go wash your mouth out you soft tart!!
No it would not be nice at all for them to go unbeaten all season.
The Scouse whankaton is bad enough now as it is, and the way Carragher was creaming himself and massaging the ego of Van Dick on The Pitch at SMS after they beat us earlier in the season was truly awlful. I think they spent about 10 minutes post match talking to LFC players. It made me want to hurl. Going all Keeganesque but I would love it, really love it if we were to win.
