10-Man Rams' Famous Forest Victory - Nottingham 1 vs. 2 Derby
10-Man Rams' Famous Forest Victory - Nottingham 1 vs. 2 Derby
Saturday, 17th Sep 2011 16:02 by Daniel J Sewart

If you had to measure the amount of guts, determination and backbone displayed by the team, the amount of confidence and respect the players will take away from the game - the only way to describe it would be ‘immeasurable’.

Only once had the Rams won at Forest in the league over a 33-year period and in a season littered with records already – you could not have scripted a better way to do it.

Down to ten men after less than ninety seconds following a soft penalty and the ridiculous sending-off of Frank Fielding.

But the Rams grew another foot to make up for one less man determined not to let this be another result like Coventry.

Slowly, Derby gained control and Jamie Ward channelled Pele as he left defenders in his dust to score a sensational equaliser.

In the second half, youngster Jeff Hendrick slams home the winner to complete a fairytale comeback that will live long in the memory.

After the match, even Nigel allowed himself to celebrate as his team had climbed back and completed a near-impossible mission.

Ten men down – one nil down – no problem.

This is the new improved, more resilient Derby County FC.

Over days to come, RamZone will bring you a full report from our man at the Forest ground, reaction from Rams fans plus all of the aftermath from a victory that gives Derby fans bragging rights for months to come.

To beat Forest is always a joy but to beat them in a way that will be talked about for decades is priceless.

Enjoy it Rams fans  - today your team and their manager Nigel Clough did you proud!

Blatant penalty and its easy to see why he was sent off.

Academic now though. Ward played well as did Shackle. We had loads of possession and more chances but couldn't finish them off. Camp to blame for the first goal. Good strike for the second.

Well played with 10 men. I'm off to drown my sorrows.

A penalty - but a booking and penalty are often deemed punishment enough, so we expect to see a couple of dozen keepers sent off each week by that standard.

Credit to the ref though for waving play on when Cohen was on the floor - a ref decides if an injury requires a stoppage. Play to the whistle.

Funny, you were saying you'd never heard of Bryson and didn't rate any of Clough's signings, before even seeing them play a while back.

Well now you've seen 'em; they're better than Agent Mac's signings, so remember their names (even if you can't spell Shackell).

Hendrick missed a sitter before he "finished them off"...19 years old and just a half-dozen first team games behind him, as he writes himself into Derby folklore.

Ward beat half the defence whilst other Trees whined about Cohen and took their eye off the game - thanks!

Our 2nd choice keeper is better than Lee Cramp!

Dust that space down at PPS for the Brian Clough Trophy..and roll on 4th February!

Calm down.

You played it right with 10 men today. We were poor. Camp was well off. Ward was good, as was shackel. Bryson was ok, got skinned a couple of times.

Bad times at Forest, but the players we have are much, much better than we played today. It will come....

Yes, like you do now, we kept thinking that we had players that can do better all last season (and the season before - but the fact is, Clough only started with one man - John Brayford - who played in the 2-5 debacle last December.

Game plan out the window after 1 minute and a keeper substitution for a debutant - and Derby were still too good for the Trees.

Losers like Leacock, Bywater, Pearson now all marginalised, there is spirit and passion but we do lack depth and quality and it would show against better sides than Nothingham.

Really funny for you to tell us that a player of ours got beat a couple of times, desperation! Ward beat your whole defence a few times on his own to score, haha!

We were missing midfield anchor man Bailey and the experience of Kilbane, Shaun Barker's not yet fit, Paul Green is out long-term - but the deputies are doing pretty well.

Long way to go yet; we need to get used to winning, you need to get used to losing.

We shall see at the end of the season.

Well played yesterday. Looking forward to the return leg.
