Bruma joins City promotion push but is he needed? Saturday, 12th Feb 2011 10:44 by Josh Curtis 19 Year old Dutch centre half Jeffrey Bruma has signed with the foxes until the end of the season on loan from Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea. He is expected, subject to Football league approval, to be named in Svens squad for Derby away on Saturday. To me, this signing is quite controversial as Jack Hobbs has been quite brilliant at times again this season and is definitely a hot prospect in English football. This adds to the fact that we already have too many loan players in our squad. I believe that our owners and also Sven are taking promotion as a foregone conclusion and most of the loanees will sign permanently in the Premier league for us. However if we were to fail in our charge for promotion we will be left with a depleted squad including players who may be disillusioned at the club. Players such as Berner, Hobbs and Waghorn are already top championship quality and could easily get into most championship sides. I have full faith in Eriksson and believe under him something special can be created, not just an established Premier league team. But really was this signing necessary? It makes the signing of Ben Mee look even more questionable. Tom Parkes, a highly rated defender in the youth team could do a job for us as fifth choice centre back so is there any real desperation to have so many defenders on loan? The only players in on loan i feel we actually need are Kyle Naughton, Patrick Van Aanholt and just one of the 3 centre backs we have in loan. Furthermore there’s the fact we have Yakubu on loan and are supposedly paying him around £40,000 a week. That works out at around 750K to have him here until the end of the season. Add that to a sizeable loan fee we paid Everton and there potentially goes a million pounds. For the same money we could have purchased a striker, someone like Charlie Austin, Jordan Rhodes or even James Vaughan. There are, no doubt, very exciting times ahead for us foxes fans but it just seems at times we are going about doing things the silly way.
