Really enjoying this season !! 19:00 - Nov 22 with 8522 viewsTalkingSutty

Its great to be able to relate to the players and the fact some have moved up from Southern based clubs almost wants you to support them even more.

Beechy now working alongside Hilly is also a win, win situation in the long run for the club i reckon (If you know what i mean).

Even if we come up short at the end of the season it will be a great ride. We now have some cracking footballers at the club and should be proud of them.

It would be nice to think that all the excellent points in this and many other threads of similar ilk are recognised regularly at football clubs. There is no reason why they wouldn't be as getting in an extra couple of hundred fans regularly would therefore help with the on-field product budget, and in turn keep those same fans coming to games.

At Dale, what is the target for all the staff with regards to attendances? At present, maybe 2500 home fans should be par, with 2800 achievable.

4th in the table - Banging in the goals

local game and only a £5 to get in.

ok if 2500 is too optimistic then say 1500.

add that to the 5000 saturation point discussed subsequently trying something has got to be better than the death by 1000 cuts of 2000 home regulars everyweek.

Not doing anything leaves us wide open to death by heartattack as NEW blood is vital in any business.

Just thought it was worth a discussion and the optimum game coming up IMHO is Fleetwood on the 14th.

It's definitely worth a discussion, but I doubt they'll bring 500, despite where they are in the league.

They might bring that many if it was free/cheaper.

All these ex-non-league clubs are very similar in that respect.

This really says it all ..............how many have moved away or died since ...it's a hard fact to accept. Thank you Daley Lama!
You also have to factor out what the away support was .and the financial climate is now much worse.
Perhaps the club has already done the costs and seen that the benefits of investment are simply not there.
That the only way forward is youth on the pitch.
Eyre replaced Hill with the "potential" to groom.
Coleman replace Eyre in the panic to hold onto a higher divisional pay out.
Back to MR Keith Hill.............who in my opinion does get it right.......despite his critics.

"Perhaps the club has already done the costs and seen that the benefits of investment are simply not there"

Welcome to the forum and the above is exactly my conclusion when wrestling with the reasons as to why the club seem content to rest on their laurels when it comes to attracting new fans.

The fact we only attracted a crowd of just over 5000 for one of the biggest games in the clubs history ( Northampton) shows the difficulty the club face. I happen to think its plain and simply down to the cost of watching games, nearly twenty pounds a pop is a lot of money for people these days especially when they are only casual fans. I have discussed it with numerous non watching football fans and they cant believe its so expensive to watch games, straight away they dismiss the idea.

The club can only drop the prices so many times and there has to be a point where they might even think about the possibility of season ticket holders feeling as the price they have paid is no longer good value if reduced admission and offers become a regular theme.

Lets face it we are all fanatics and all manage to find the cost of supporting the club but getting others to attend week in, week out is a hard task. It makes it even harder because of the geological location of the club.

Why not attack things from a different angle and invest money into the Goldbond/ similar weekly draw and try a new recruitment drive. Reward new customers with a match ticket and then use the mailing list to send free tickets for kids on a regular basis with a view to attracting the full paying parents or neighbours/ friends. It would probably mean employing another member of staff but if that persons remit entailed other commercial/fundraising duties with a bonus scheme attached it could be worthwhile.

you have a fair point.

been here loads before it is such a frustration.

How much does a Quality sales and Marketing manager cost? i think you could pick up a bright young graduate on not to huge a salary and base there attractive bonus on an increase in home fans.

doing nothing not an option now the best time to fix the leaky roof is when the sun is shining.

As fans we do want to see our gate numbers getting higher especially as the team are doing so well. We feel as though we are letting our team down in a sense. They are doing their bit but we are not matching up. But, although we do have responsibility to play our part there is a widely held feeling that the club itself should be doing much more in getting the numbers up. There are still Rochdale folk out there who will come but we haven't pressed the right buttons yet. We can't give up. It's a continuous effort even to stand still. Outwardly there doesn't seem to be a massive push by the club. Now our product is piping hot its just the right time to strike, to push the "off the field" promotion boat out. If this doesn't happen then, as discussed before, there should be new blood injected in terms of marketing personnel in order to get things moving. We CAN increase the numbers to a respectable level. It's just a case of putting the right effort in.

What's everybodies predictions for Tuesday attendance then?

Negatives

Second game at home in 4 days
We're not top of the table
It's not 25 celcius outside
Scunthorpe are not Barcelona
Arsenal v Marseille or Basel v Chelsea on TV
(2) TWO episodes of Coronation Street
It's Christmas in 13 months

Positives

Parking will be easy
They won't run out of pies
Scunny will have new manager syndrome

Sadly 2265

it will be disapointing I am sure unless Scunny bring more than i am expecting ( 250? ).

Top of the league and a general apathy with all but the die hard regulars.

"It's not 25 celcius outside": that's right, tomorrow's forecast is for about 3 degrees, and misty.

I know there's the league cup, and later the paint trophy, but I can't understand why Tuesday night league fixtures don't start sooner.

Dale played on no Tuesdays in September, but I recall years ago turning up at Spotland on sunny evenings.

Freezin cold and misty under floodlights should be a selling point.

Sadly the chumps lg on tele is slowly killing lower league footy.

properly reading the forecast I revise my estimate to a sub 2000 crowd.

The forecast is for a freezing start to tomorrow but slowly rising temperatures, continuing into the evening so that by 8 or 9pm it'll be warmer than during the day (probably due to increasing cloud cover).

Doubt if anyone who was considering going on a late November evening would be put off. Unfortunately, I can't make it

Fooking dead right. About bloody time someone hit the nail on the head. Sick to death of all this it's the recession or armchair Sky TV pub watchers rubbish.

Oh yeah, I might have known you'd resort to that. Just because, for a living, I pack a certain dairy based confectionery product. I have a feret that inexplicably likes chutney and I love riding my horse Nobby (effectionally known as 'nob' for short).

You pick up on the slightest little thing and run with it don't you.

I didn't go on the Blue John mines geology trip, my dad spent the school trip money in the pub. I stayed back at the school and was made to pick up litter around the school playground. Still cant fathom out why I was made to do that !!
