Ahmad Benali on twitter tonight:

Never worked this hard in a long time! But suppose this is what happens when you've had poor coaching for 2 years!

Followed by:

Not bitter. Mcfc fan just saying what people need to know.

Then its clearly aimed at City.

The Eyre think is great, rip the guy to pieces for taking a chance in management and not a word against the people who headhunted and appointed him.
Compare Eyres points per games against Colemans, hmmmmm.

There have been plenty of things said against those who appointed him, including admissions from the Chairman that it turned out to be a mistake.

Coleman's record has to be put into context.

Look at the quality of the squad he inherited;

The timing of his appointment (end of the transfer window);

The ethos of the changing room.

And so on ....

Agreed TVOS , I think both managers inherited difficult positions, especially Eyre when half of the team was removed from the previous year.

Its time to put Eyre into the past and move on.

Eyre inherited a solid squad which, although missing some of its better players, he was able to add to. His choices were poor and man-management terrible. This ensured Coleman inherited a squad with real issues around team spirit and one which was lacking quality all over the place.

Coleman, by his own admission, was disappointed that he couldn't keep the club up. At no stage did Eyre say we were heading in completely the wrong direction.

Coley has built this side with his own choice of players.....he now needs to fulfil.

Think he can do it.

When I think back to awful managers we have had in recent years - Eyre, Simpson, Buckley, for me, the main criticism was complete lack of effort on the pitch - tactics etc were always secondary to that. Hill and Parkin (more often than not) always had the players playing for them and giving 100%

This is something that Coleman appears to be instilling into the dressing room and it is why I think he will be a success, maybe not overnight, but he'll get us there.

To be fair, under Simpson the players started off trying to play. The only problem was the b*llockings they received for not passing the ball to him or trying anything remotely skilful!

For many different reasons I hardly wrote anything on here last season. Mainly due to health issues. However, if I had been on full form (easy to say now) I would have slated the decision to appoint Eyre. Time and again it reminded me of the time we brought in Walter Joyce. Anyway that's all if buts and maybes.

But I would like to add to this to the thread cos I sent Ahmad a good luck tweet on hearing of his move to italy and his reply was pretty much along these lines .....Ive still got many friends there (meaning Dale). "Shame about the manager."

Now you can interpret that many different ways did he mean Eyre OR did he mean Coly?

I prefer to think he meant Eyre and I doubt he'd ever (for now) say who he meant but especially in the light of this latest quote. Anyway I'll let youse decide :)

We were always seen as a youth development project to Eyre, I lost count of the times he used the words 'work in progress' never once seemed concerned that we were heading downwards, and never treated us, I don't think as a league side, in what he wanted to do to move us onwards, just use us as a trial run for his merry men of Man City kids.

Benali left Dale before Coleman came in so it's unlikely their paths would have crossed.

Had the problems been due to Eyre, Coleman would have rectified them overnight, just as Moore did at Tranmere. The Board conceded relegation before a ball was kicked. Eyre was sacked at the time he was (and then, more pertinently, Beech appointed in the interim) not because relegation looked certain, but because, on the contrary, he was beginning to look like he might keep us up! Why else would you appoint a rock-solid Fourth Division Manager? That's not to blame anyone. A child can see that life above Fourth Division level is completely unsustainable. The Board rightly see success as maintaining league-status.

Moore walked into a club that was used to fighting relegation battles with a solid squad. Coleman's admitted he felt responsible for not turning it round, but at the same time he arrived at a club that was almost in disarray on the field.

We can ignore the presumably tongue in cheek comment about how Eyre was turning it round.

It was crystal clear the board accepted relegation by not replacing COG.

The appointment of Beech still beggers belief, someone who wasn't deemed good enough to take over from Hill, and overlooked for Eyre, but he was cheap, then the board panicked and decided they had to "splash out" by bringing in Coley, but it was too late, the players's attitude was appalling. It was a different situation at Tranmere, the players were just lacking in confidence, ours lacked in desire, to fight for the club/managers.

Life is a game of fate.

So none of our problems last season were down to Eyre? None of them at all?

Who signed the majority of the players Coleman inherited?

How was he looking like he would keep us up at the time he was sacked?

We had won one game in more than two months and had recently been knocked out of the FA Cup by a team near to the bottom of the Football League.

As a logician, I'm stumped.

Do you think we would have stayed up had we kept O'Grady?

The club tried to replace him (Harrad, Parkin, Kuqi), but finances dictated otherwise.

I agree Beeches appointment at the time "beggered belief",but there where plenty on this forum who clamoured for Beech to be appointed,i couldnt understand that at the time.

We appoint a rooky manager (Eyre),who fails spectacularly and then repeat the exact same mistake at a critical point in the season by appointing Beech. At that time we needed a experienced manager to sort out the dressing room.

Anyway, its water under the bridge now and Coleman is a sound choice with the right credentials.

I think we'd have had a much better chance converting our chances yeah, he wasnt just an out and out striker, he worked so deep linking up play, was like we lost a creative midfielder and a goalscorer.

We'd just had a great first year in L1, our star was on the rise, and should have pushed the boat out for a good up and coming striker, Kuqi's relationship with Dickov swung that one, 'cause there was no way they could have offered more than we could have afforded, with the compo/transfer fees etc.

anyway whats done is done, roll on this season.

COG was a great player and much more than a striker, but he scored nine league goals the season before, so it's not fair to label him a goalscorer (at that level), especially when he would have been fed on scraps last term compared to 2010/11.

We had more problems at the back than up front.
