Swansea City v Southampton : Matchday Thread 23/24 on 15:15 - Jan 20 by union_jack | I don’t think it was lack of courage, more a lack of judgment. It happened so quickly he thought he could tap it in. A bit more composure and he would have done I reckon. It just wasn’t our day today when we isolate our chances. Over 90 mins we deserved nothing. |
Don't always work like that though, how many can you say that we deserved more and vice versa, would have loved to have seen us get somin deserved or not. Onwards and Upwards.

How does he start in midfield in front of Joey, Oli and Pato ? Mystery for me. I think he is more of a centre back.

Today reminded me of last week when he had a similar decision to make. Take a chance and score, but take a bang off the keeper (today the post) - He hesitated on both and scored neither.

A game of 2 halves...the first we looked lost and Southampton played some lovely football it seems after 2 seasons here Martin has learnt as there was little pointless passing in.front.of their goal, there were long balls and cross field passes...totally different to the fare he served up whilst he was in the process. Second half we stepped up and but for both posts could/should have been level. Whilst Rusty won the first half Luke won the second half...if Luke carries.on like this it looks good

Swansea City v Southampton : Matchday Thread 23/24 on 17:11 - Jan 20 with 1912 views | swancity | I can’t ever recall watching the Swans at home and be dominated as we were today At half time the only surprise was that they weren’t out of sight. 0-5 at half time would have been a fair reflection. We responded well and played a lot better in the second half but that was in part due to Southampton sitting back a bit more to see out the game. It could have easily ended 3-7. But there’s no disgrace losing to that Southampton side. They were excellent in the first half. Controlled and dominated the ball, getting lots of bodies forward and constantly interchanging positions. A good fight back but not much to get excited about today from our perspective.

Swansea City v Southampton : Matchday Thread 23/24 on 17:28 - Jan 20 with 1855 views | PawelAbbott | I don't understand why we were going for a high press in the first half. The one thing that Yates gives is he runs and runs. Put him on from the start to put pressure on their back line. You know a Martin team is going to try to pass the ball around the back. Get the pressure on them from the start. They were strolling half way down the pitch as we sat back and let them stroke the ball around

The subs made a hell of a difference. Ashby awful again. Send him back to Newcastle. Not fit to wear the shirt. Wood, first half pathetic. Ok after. Lowe. Jogs about but does fa. Start with the team that finished the game and we will do ok.

I can see why we haven't spent any money this window. It's too hard to select a position that needs strengthening the most. We need everything apart from maybe a new keeper. Lowe is not a forward. The midfield was non existent We were awful at the back Ashby at right back is a bottom 2 division player

In the end we did well, but teacher says in 2 posts we could have done better.

Absolutely, subs made a big difference. However a bit too late. I have made many positive comments about the attacking ability of Patino. On this occasion it was his ability to disrupt the fluidity of the Southampton passing that impressed. He is all over the pitch pressurizing the opposition and the easy passing spaces for Southampton were vastly reduced. Should have started.
Swansea City v Southampton : Matchday Thread 23/24 on 22:49 - Jan 20 with 1280 views | PawelAbbott | The most concerning thing is that no club or set of players knows what to expect of a Martin side more than we do. And we set up in the first half to let them do exactly what they wanted to do. I don't know if Williams doesn't yet see how our players don't compare against the better teams or if he is tactically naive. But, whichever it is, today what he did was a mess.

Lets break it down, what you are really saying is that it was the Master verses his Tea Boy. Jokes aside it was a massive gulf between the quality between the two squads, first half I felt like I was watching a game between a premier league side verses a league one team such was the gulf, we were so much off the pace it was frightening, we need to have more about ourselves, we showed that in the second half, I get that they may have taken their foot off the peddle, but if we had taken our chances we might have given them more to think about.

Yes pretty much and I never thought much of Martin as a manager. He is doing well at Southampton as he has a team of premiership players whi are a level above most Championship teams. In the second half we put more pressure on them and were stopping the slow passing around the back, winning the ball off them and exposing the usual frailties of a Martin side. What is worrying is that we didn't start like that. We knew what they were going to do and set ourselves up to do the same thing but with a far inferior team. Why wasn't Williams pragmatic, accept he had the weaker team and set up to destroy Martins tactics, rather than attempt to play the same way
