A big month - Preview 21:57 - Dec 31 with 7828 viewsNorthernr

A Happy New Year to you all, thank you for all the kind comments both on here and at games recently.

Sorry if I've been an overly grumpy bstrd, even by my standards, lately. It's always a tough and lonely time of year for me, one where my workload actually goes up rather than down, and QPR just have a habit of chucking one of those Millwall grenades into the mix. I remember them getting down 3-0 by Liverpool in one of those mid-Christmas New Year fixtures once and me basically sticking a 10,000 word diatribe up about everything that was wrong with the club which made my look a right obnoxious little twt.

Thank you to everybody who posts on here. The message board is the life of the site, without it it's just me yelling into the ether. I think by and large it's a great tone and level of debate on here. Do try not to smash each other up over bloody Israel and Palestine - it's a football message board guys, you're not going to achieve anything here other than winding yourselves up.

A special thanks to anybody who's got a Patreon sub. The half season review went down well, we'll be doing more of those. Hopefully next one at the end of the transfer window - suggestions for guests welcome. You have no idea how much that support has saved my life over the last couple of years, and the site definitely wouldn't exist without it. Well, it might, but I wouldn't be running it.

If I've said something daft or written something or got it wrong or whatever, forgive me. It's hard writing tired, which I am most of the time at this time of year. It's hard writing about a club that loses two of every three games and wins barely one in five. It's hard doing 48 previews and reports in the best of times and these aren't the best of times. Please know it always comes from a good place, of trying to be a bit different, produce interesting content, hopefully make a few people laugh.

Let's hope 2024 is a bit better. Have a match preview on me...

Happy new year Clive. Thanks for everything you do. Reading your reports and all the banter on here makes it much easier to be an R on the far side of the world. One of these days I’ll be in London again and I hope I get the chance to buy you a beer and shake your hand. Good man yourself.

Much respect from Brisbane 😎

Cheers Clive.

I don’t know what I would do without this site. The perfect accompaniment for the lunacy that is supporting this QPR.

THank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Happy New Year.

Just to echo what others say and you've heard a million times before - but thank you.

Am a proper lurker, would post more but find it hard enough to keep up with reading all the interesting Rangers threads as well as all your previews, reports, and the the patreon content. And keeping up with all of life's demands!

I don't know how you do it, but the content's always gold and always worth the time (and small Patrón subs!).

Let's hope it's a better 2024, for you and Rs, starting tomorrow. Will be there in hope if not expectation

We won 8 games throughout the entirety of 2023, un fooking believable 😬😳

At least we are still here and posting and that Clive, is down to you and you alone.

Surely 2024 must get better. A win tomorrow would be a good start. All the best for the New Year as it can’t possibly be any worse than the last one…can it?

Happy New Year Clive. On my way to the game. Keep up the great work. This is genuinely one of the very best parts of being a QPR supporter.

It's pretty amazing that any of us are still here supporting the club home and even away, given the year we've had on the pitch and for many of us off the pitch too.

We must be equal parts stubborn, crazy and even possibly hopeful to still believe. The community we have here keeps us all connected to the club, the fans if not the players...

You remain a big part of what makes QPR something worth being involved with Clive, that and the crazies on this MB. I have occasionally had to keep away this year because of stuff going on for me and my friends combined with (largely understandable) melt-downs on here that I just couldn't deal with at the same time. The fact you manage to keep reading it all and producing such great content when you have your own stuff going on is nothing short of amazing.

The patreon is a bargain and I hope people start and continue to support it if they can afford to.

Let's all have a good 2024.

Thanks Clive & a Happy New Year to everyone.

I wish I could join all of you at The Bush today, but the bus replacement service between Witham & Billericay is something I'm not up to at present. It's probably a good job that it's in place, as otherwise I might have been stupid enough to attend when I shouldn't!

Hopefully, I will find a stream to watch my team magically find a goal or two in their repertoire. No, I know not how!

COME ON MY TEAM

Thanks for all you do Clive. I love this site and read every word!
Supporting Rangers wouldn’t be the same without it….and 95% of the time I agree with you and also often laugh out loud!
I loved your comments about Dykes post Millwall. I was standing next to a bloke at Millwall who I’ve not had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting before who constantly banged on about how good Dykes was and that we don’t give him service. It was like he was watching a different game. I just wish I could send him your comments since…they have reaffirmed that I wasn’t going mad!
Happy New Year. Have fun.

Happy New year Clive,

I have been on here for a while now but do not post or contribute much as don't go to that many games and therefore don't feel I have the right to comment.

I think your writing is class whether intuitive, honest, amusing, downbeat, balanced or whatever - well worth subscribing for.

Happy New year.....

Happy New Year to you and all here on LFW too. Hopefully 2024 will bring an improvement in results!

Don't post often but would like to reiterate what others have said. Thank you so much for all your hard work and brilliant writing. It really is second to none and really appreciated. The Patreon subscription is worth every penny to help keep this site going, and hopefully AKUTRs too.

Thanks again.

Echo everyone else - thanks so much Clive for this fantastic site and your peerless writing on our favourite subject (QPR, not sex metaphors).

Just picking up on your DoF thoughts. I am very happy with Marti and despite recent results I think he’s done a great job so far. But I too believe a DoF or Sporting Director needs to happen as a matter of urgency for a couple of reasons.

First, relegation is likely. We are improved but we can’t score and have no money. If that were to happen, we’d see many of those OOC players leave. We’d need an overhaul. Now I’d trust Marti with this: but I also do not think he’d stick around for League One. He’s a good coach, and won’t be short of offers here, in Scandinavia and elsewhere. I don’t think he’ll want to waste a year of his career in the third tier. It makes no sense at all for him. So it’s vital that we have a DoF in place to plan for the huge difficulties relegation will bring, and to have a strong idea of who would replace Marti should he leave.

Second, if we were to stay up, Marti will have been the main reason. If we look at his career, while he’s not another Beale, he has not spent long at any club. He feels like a man in a hurry with lots of ambition. Great for us in the short term. Maybe not in the long term. So, as above, we need a DoF in now so that if we stay up, they can plan together and when Marti does go, maybe a year later, maybe two, the shock isn’t like it was when Beale left.

It’s a big appointment.

Bare bones.
