Sell Chair 11:25 - Dec 27 with 6412 views | Ned_Kennedys | None of us are certain as to the transfer funds situation when the transfer window opens next week but everyone will agree that if we are stuck with this current bunch of totally inadequate players we are pretty much guaranteed to be relegated. Worse case scenario is that we have no financial wiggle room to sign anyone, even on loan. If this is the case then IMO we should be already touting out Chair as available for sale as he is our best (only) option of getting decent money in. Get £3-4 million for Ilias, give the money to Cifuentes and hope to God he has already identified a few bargains from his time in Scandinavia. And get Nakhi Wells back on loan from Bristol City.
Sell Chair on 12:06 - Dec 27 with 4879 views | traininvain | One slight problem with this plan, we’d need to find a way to replace Chair and strengthen the squad in other positions for this to make any sense. And let’s be realistic, that’s not going to happen with £3m-£4m which is chicken feed at this level. Obviously if we receive an offer that’s too good to reject then Chair will go but the idea that we should be touting around our best player at a cut price deal is pretty mental when you consider our current predicament.

What is Chair’s value in the current market taking into account he is well below Premier League level and the best we can hope for is a ‘rich’ upper level Championship team going for him? £4m would be good money for him. And if we got that money we would need to use it to fund at least four player signings, including someone to play the Chair role of course. Won’t get feck all in this country with that money, hence why I stated we will need to rely on Cifuentes to use his knowledge of Scandanavian football to pick up a bargain. Is there anyone else we could sell for that kind of money? I don’t think so. Is it a massive gamble? Yes but the alternative might be stick with what we have which is almost guaranteed relegation which would probably lead to a firesale of anyone half decent for peanuts (including Chair) as the club tries to cut the wage bill for League One. I’m not questioning Chair’s value, I agree that £4m is probably about right. But the idea that we could adequately replace Chair (probably our best player) and strengthen the squad with circa £4m is flawed. Particularly during January which is a notoriously bad time to be doing transfer business. Even if we’re shopping in Scandinavia, we’re not going to get much with a few million and most players would need time to adapt to the Championship which we don’t really have given the self imposed handicap of playing a third of the season under Ainsworth. It’s also worth pointing out that most clubs will have scouts watching the Scandinavian league so I doubt having Marti as our manager is that much of an advantage in this respect. But money talks and Chair might well leave in January if an acceptable offer comes in for him. If this happens, we’ll find out soon enough what a QPR team without Chair looks like and it ain’t going to be pretty imo.
Sell Chair on 12:55 - Dec 27 with 4731 views | kensalriser | I'm a bit bewildered by the oft expressed notion there's a stockpile of talented and underpriced players in Scandinavia that only Marti Cifuentes knows about. It doesn't sound very likely.

Don’t be bewildered: it is likely he knows of a few players that can improve us based on his years over there. Whether we can afford them is a different matter but it has to be an option worth exploring.

Problem is he's not playing consistently well enough to attract offers. I'd be surprised if any offer came in for him in January - and even then would be at the lower end of the scale. He is arguably our best player BUT I still feel he can do more; when the going gets tough he doesn't shirk but I think he then tries to do too much himself and holds onto the ball for too long; doesn't seem to trust/pass to his team mates (probably for good reason). Maybe as mentioned elsewhere he would be more effective in a central midfield role. But for now he's a conundrum and with the current squad we're not getting the best out of him.

Sell Chair on 13:21 - Dec 27 with 4608 views | thehat | I love Chair to bits he is always fit and available and really cares for the club. but.... When he was at AFCON we had a great run and won games without him. When he returned Warburton put him straight back in the team at Peterborough away which was the start of this horrible two year decline and Chair has played in most of the games since. Could Chair be a big part of our problem - Teams know they just need to nullify him and not a lot else happens. Do other players keep relying on him to try and produce some magic so don't make lung busting runs to get into the box when we are attacking? Has Chair become too predictable and takes to many touches always cutting in on his right and trying to shoot? Does Chair not track back quickly enough when we lose the ball? Is Chair better suited to come of the bench as at Preston? I guess we will only know properly if he is sold or has a period of games out the team or on the bench. Personally I think if we get any offer over £4M he should go which may be a good move for both parties..... As I say I love him to bits but its an interesting scenario.......... Ah yes I forgot about the Chair effect when he came back from AFCON! Similar when he came back from the World Cup (although he had clearly lost fitness and the team was doing much worse...)

Yes but Taarabt was a match winner on a regular basis (and helped by better players around him who put a foot in).

Sell Chair on 14:23 - Dec 27 with 4452 views | stevec | For Chairs sake, I’d like to see him play for a decent team who embrace a game of football. Dickie seems to be enjoying himself at Bristol, must be a breath of fresh air for him not being surrounded by a bunch of c*nts who don’t give a fck about how they earn a wage.

Sell Chair on 14:42 - Dec 27 with 4372 views | highleverhoopL | Hull are thought to have paid around £5million for Philogene, who terrified me every time he had the ball with his combo of pace and skill (good job he went off early). Sell Chair on 14:50 - Dec 27 with 4337 views | QPunkR | It's a big problem as he's our only sellable asset for more than a pittance, but equally he's our only good player and singular source of gameplay on a week by week basis. Main point being - if we sell him, how can we both replace him and improve our team with the paltry sum we'd bring in? No chance, imo - therefore we'd be weakening our team just for the sake of some extra sheckles to mis-spend. Ergo, not a good deal

Well currently he's very predictable just cutting in from the left and looking to get a shot away. Just about the only thing Boilface did well was get Chair to play with his head up and use the ball quickly and offensively. He's gone backwards since then. As mentioned get him to play more centrally and hopefully he can be even more effective.

I can’t believe you are comparing Chair in any way to Taarabt: nowhere near the same class or influence on the team. I hope the money dictates we can keep Chair AND sign four or five decent players somehow but worst possible option would be to do nothing and accept relegation which is what continuing to rely n the current squad would be.

100% Stay as we are and we get relegated. The likelihood of being able to sell anyone other than Chair is extremely low. Would love it to be otherwise and that someone comes in for Willock but not even sure he would agree to go

Haven’t seen Philogene or Hull pulling up any trees lately and for what it’s worth, Chair his held in very high regard by other teams and players in this league.
