Help - Electricians quote 20:19 - Sep 29 with 1587 views | AguycalledJack | I’ve had a quote from a sparky which is more than I expected. Taking the wording directly from the quote it’s for consumer unit upgrade - fusebox branded consumer unit with Spd and RCBOs- replace back box - x 2 units - £680 plus vat. I don’t have much of an idea about these things but does this sound reasonable? If it is then fine it is what it is but I was initially led to believe that it would be no more than a couple of hundred? PS - it’s a property I rent out and the quote will also include undertaking the new electronic testing requirements that now need to be undertaken in wales ( it was during the said testing that it was deemed that the above work was necessary). All thoughts appreciated.

I’m in the same business and my sparks is £30ph so if you could find out the cost of the materials (TLC is a good place) then you could see roughly how many hours he’s charging for.

Help - Electricians quote on 20:52 - Sep 29 with 1542 views | Whiterockin | Does it include a full electrical test certificate, that should be no more than £100.
Help - Electricians quote on 21:13 - Sep 29 with 1511 views | AguycalledJack | Yes includes the test. I’ve just looked and in 2017 I had the same job done on another property for £217 plus vat plus £100 plus vat for the testing. Even allowing for inflation the current price does appear steep. Think I need to shop around.

Got gas heating now ? if so the existing E7 wiring can be put into blocks [Lucy Blocks] and the permanent live supply disconnected, have you still got a timeclock fitted after the meter or has there been a 5 port meter fitted in its place, the 5th terminal on the meter would be the live supply to the E7 system. I'm saying all this, but you possibly may already know

Still electric. It’s in a block of flats and electric is the only energy/ heating source. The e7 has been overridden in the past.
