Signs for Southampton 🤭

Poll: Are we staying up?

Never understood the Lumley hate. Came through various age groups, was a decent player, I would far rather have him than Archer or the plethora of people at the end of two seasons ago.

Sexy Asian dwarves wanted.

Ha
That certainly puts a different perspective on the upcoming match
Assuming he plays.

If we had a striker maybe yes.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I thought he did ok for us and remember a really long run of cleansheets. Had too many mistakes in him to be a really Championship first choice, but would be a solid number two.

Fair play to him - although I assume as back up rather than first choice?

Was never the same after he got that kick in the head at Villa, sadly.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

Glad he has a new club even if it is as a backup. Always thought Joe was one of the good guys. Maybe not the best keeper after that Villa game but not the worst.

His longest clean sheet run for us was three.

I guess relative to current expectation and output that is a ‘really long run’.

The points Lumley cost us (and they were significant due to countless errors) were likely the difference between not making the playoffs that year.

Abusing him is silly of course, but please let's not pretend that he was in an way a success story.

I always felt he was a bit too friendly with the fans which is fine when things are going well but exposes you when they’re not. I prefer a keeper to be more detached from the fans like Seny was.

I thought we were right to release him when we did as his last season with us was full of costly mistakes. You could probably make a 10 minute video of them all. However there was lots to like about Lumley’s game and he’s a great character whose gone on to have a decent career, as I thought he would. Back rooming with his mate Ryan Manning now probably.

No hate here buddy. Just amazed he's managed to sign for one of the promotion favorites.

Albeit as a backup.

Tony Roberts is the AC Milan goalkeeping coach.

Could almost be a daily star headline.

Thanks

But he did keep a few cleansheets during a decent run (maybe not consecutive)

I am sure someone can elaborate with some stats 🙄

Wasn’t Roberts also coach arsenal a few years ago ? He wasn’t popular but he might be a bettee coach than our own Gavin ward who seems to be bullet proof over the numerous managers who have been and gone

That's not unusual. Players who were at the top of their profession frequently can't communicate what, or why, they were so good. It came naturally. Conversely the best coaches were often mediocre players. They survived in the game by analysing what they did and figuring out how to improve it. They could then pass that information to younger players.
