Cricket 2021 09:04 - Jun 2 with 28501 views | toboboly | Starts today with England v NZ at Lords. Finishes with us raising the urn in Oz. Gorgeous day for it, anyone get tix? After having loads of games sorted last year I thought it prudent not to bother this season. Will be listening to TMS, just hope they have anyone in place of Daniel Norcross whom aggravates me something chronic. [Post edited 2 Jun 2021 9:09]

Cricket 2021 on 12:34 - Aug 25 by toboboly | Question: will Anderson manage to chase down Warne in the Test wickets total? |
I don't think so. Warne could bowl lots more overs.

True, Anderson has 79 more to get to draw level. I think he might get it, it will be close unless his fitness suddenly evaporates.

All out for 78.Is it the pitch, over confidence by the Indian batsmen or superb work by England?Time will tell, but a brilliant start.

superb work by the bowlers and very probably the stats/analysis team because they consistently pitched the ball in the right spot, disappointed in Pant and Jadeja having seen what happened previously they needed to be more aggressive

The rest of the bowlers did well today,so we weren’t as dependant on Jimmy as we have been previously. And 2 of them were on hat tricks. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think he'll fall 50 or so short. To take wickets in Oz you need that extra pace as it doesn't swing much. He looked past it here 4 years ago so don't think he will will do much this time. Let's say 10 wickets? Then surely next summer is his last so let's say 20 wickets if he plays every test? An amazing cricketer who will be sorely missed when he's gone.

He took 17 wickets at 27 with an economy rate of 2 an over so hardly past it It's a myth you need pace IMO what you need is batman to cash in and get 500 in the 1st innings

The Aus batsmen are smart enough to be careful against Anderson (hence the low scoring rate) because he's so consistent, and then score off others. He definitely doesn't get the conditions he prefers here so its harder to make as much of an impact. There's a reason why the home attack is full of six foot plus fast bowlers. India had success here last time because they had a very decent pace attack (even after the first choices were injured during the series) which they've not really had before, plus superb self belief and determination which you have to give Kohli credit for. They've lacked that away from home in the past. I don't mind Kohli. After watching the outright nastiness and personal sledging by many Australian players and teams down the years (worst were the early 2000s side captained by Steve Waugh, who had no need to do it given their talent) everything else seems tame. Kohli is passionate and plays hard, but I've rarely seen him cross the line in the way that Aus teams often have. He thrives on the battle too. England fell into the trap last time and threw away the test match with ridiculous bowling to the tail. England would do well to remember a couple of the tests India won here in Oz last time, from seemingly impossible positions, when trying to seal a victory in this match. Need to build a big lead from here and not let them back into the game.

You need pace in Oz, always have done. Very rarely see England score 500 don't bet on us doing it over here with this batting line up.

They're all here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_England_Test_cricketers It's funny, I remember some of the blink and you'll miss'ems (Darren Pattinson!), but Amjid Khan? Ian Blackwell - lots of ODIs as a porky all-rounder, but in a test? [Post edited 26 Aug 2021 10:07]

Is that the Pattinson who was born in England to english parents but got a boatload of grief for being "yet another foreign player"? I never quite understood what the problem was tbh. His brother played for Australia and has Big Ben tattooed on his arm I believe.
Cricket 2021 on 11:33 - Aug 26 with 1183 views | MrSheen | I've seen an interesting suggestion that Burns and Hameed are the hairiest opening partnership in test history. Any suggestions? Even in the hedonistic mullet era, openers seemed a more monkish, restrained tribe.

I think it was more that he was pitched into a Headingley test as a last minute replacement for SIdebottom in his debut county season based on a presumed liking for the surface. He was controversially chosen ahead of Hoggard who had played there for over a decade (but who legend has it was in no state to play after a benefit dinner the night before). He got a couple, but South Africa won by ten wickets and he was never seen again.

For whatever reason I've only just registered Kohli and found him irritating. He did remind me of the Aussie team in the 2000s. Kohli is articulate when interviewed though.

Likewise. Be good to see the openers play like test cricketers. That said, was impressed by India's bowling attack in last test. Thought they were aggressive and varied bowling over/around the wicket as well as angling many of the deliveries. Is it Bumrah who manages 85mph off very short run ups?
