Hama and Israel -again 09:39 - May 12 with 7370 viewsonehunglow

The story goes on and on.
Both harking back to Biblical times claiming lands as their own bequeathed to them by a God that has overseen billions killed in his name .
Both intransigent ,both unrelenting, both unforgiving, both cause celebres for countries that should have nothing to do with either side.

Where is your loving God?

The news this morning says they are close to descending into all out war. That won't end well and I can see other Islamic countries getting involved, whether that's to try and restore peace or to attack Israel I don't know.

If there is a god involved in this it's more likely to be called Loki!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Morning Cat
All my life ,tis region has been a tinder box.Britain certainly has blood on its hands as do many other countries but religion here is key.It is all.

Ramadan this time. Israelis "insensitive" and restrictive during this ludicrous fasting time.

When the other side are standing ,bowing to a stone wall when repeating text from THEIR version of the Bible/Torah,you jut know there is no solution until both sides decide that their religious beliefs and customs are simply outdated and murderously divisive.

Never has there been a time when we need to marginalise ALL religions. Ideal world of course.

The videos coming out of the city of Lod yesterday were terrifying. Israeli-Arabs, in gangs of hundreds, storming around the city setting multiple synagogues, apartment buildings, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure on fire whilst yelling "God is Great".

Videos of Hamas terrorists performing drive-by shootings at shops and petrol stations.

Videos of sophisticated Iranian rocket launchers firing hundreds of rockets in a matter of seconds out of a civilian apartment building in Gaza.

They're animals and are using social media to twist it into entirely Israel's fault.

Who was it that forced people out of their homes then, who's expanding settlements displacing the people who lived there for a 1000 years, don't tell me, its the Chinese isn't it.

The epicentre of this latest in an endless litany of violence is East Jerusalem, Palestinians hadn’t “lived there for a thousand years,” until 1967 it was part of Jordan and regarded as the second city of the Hashemites.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Well that's not true, is it?

The whole are was part of the Ottoman empire. The people who lived there were Arabs and they had been there 1000+ of years, yes.

The Jewish population was about 5% of the total in 1914, until mass immigration during/after WWI.

The proposed Jewish State would have given them 55% of the land mass when the Arab population was 65% of the people, so they objected.

After WWII Israel was formed by force and they took about 80% of the land, forcing the Arab people who lived there out of their homes.

The surrounding Arab Countries fought back and lost, resulting in Israel taking more land.

Since then its been a steady creep, expanding and pushing more Arabs from their homes.

Trump encouraged the latest issues by going against all international advice and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing Israel's sovereignty.

The troubles now are due to Israel expanding once again.

Here's a video recorded yesterday by a young Palestinian child from his bedroom window as he watches Hamas park rocket launchers outside his bedroom window before beginning to fire them into Israeli cities.

Hamas are REMOVED and so is anybody defending them as they use children as human shields from counter Israeli airstrikes.

I can't see anyone defending the actions of HAMAS, I can see people highlighting the actions of Israel as a catalyst to trouble.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/11/what-has-caused-jerusalem-worst-vi

"Amid rising tensions, there was an increase in communal violence, with videos shared online of street harassment and several attacks between Jews and Palestinians. Events came to a head in late April when hundreds of far-right Israelis marched down city streets chanting “death to Arabs” and confronted Palestinians."

"Anger built ahead of an Israeli court ruling, which was due on Monday, on whether authorities would evict dozens of Palestinians from the majority-Arab East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah and give their homes to Jewish settlers.

On the same day, thousands of flag-waving Israeli nationalists were due to march through Muslim neighbourhoods in the Old City in a provocative parade that celebrated Israel’s capture of the city in 1967."

” The people who lived there were Arabs and they had been there 1000+ of years, yes.

Certainly they were Semites but the tribes that comprised the Transjordanians were and are distinct from the Palestinians.I’m getting that in quite lurid detail from T E Lawrence and Glubb Pasha.

The west hasn't helped in unsettling the middle east, we got rid of Saddam who was brutal yes, but he kept them all in check, we ruined that and all because of oil and other interests, they marched into Kuwait and that give us the thumbs up to get stuck in, all be it a yr or two later and we had that imbecile Bush and Blair hanging onto his coat tails, all under the lie of WMD, it caused a massive loss of life and still is, Syria is still in ruins.
Both War criminals IMO

Israel should avoid expanding further. Their settlers see it their right to literally push people from their homes.

Neither side come out smelling of roses, its the people who are the pawns that suffer.

It’s only become that way in very recent times. Let me take you back to July 23rd 1975 and the Durham Miners’ Gala...

”An estimated crowd of 100,000 coal miners gathered here for the annual gala of this north England town gave a resounding ovation at the mention of the State of Israel, when Israeli Ambassador Gideon Rafael was introduced. He was one of the few foreign guests at the colorful event, together with U.S. Ambassador Elliott Richardson.

Some of the miners later came up to shake the hand of “The Ambassador from the Holy Land.” They recalled the warm friendship for the Zionist cause of the late Durham miners’ leader, Sam Watson. Later, at a reception attended by Prime Minister Harold Wilson, Foreign Minister James Callaghan and leader of the House of Commons Edward Short and Mrs. Short joined in with the Ambassador and Mrs. Rafael in a rendition of “Hava Nagila.” Rafael also met with the chairman of the National Coal Board, Sir Derek Ezra.”

Do you think they stuck around and waited for the Israeli fighter jets to blow up the launchers? Enough children died yesterday doing just that.

Hamas resumed their rocket attacks at 6pm (51 mins ago) if you wish to see the latest attacks.

130 rockets in the first few seconds. At least two got through. One killed a 6 year old Israeli girl. Another landed in the middle of a house.

Scum.

So,bearing in mind most on this site were not born in 75,it is indeed modern times.
The conflict has sadly been espoused by political opportunists.
