That was a great car to have a your first car bdb, very desirable now,I had to put up with a Mk1 Cavalair 1600L,the engine blew to bits going up the A1 to an away game probably down to using more oil than petrol
Not my very first, which was a Morris Marina with the headlights held together with duct tape and a rope tied between the rear doors which wouldn't lock... lasted a few short weeks
Then, a Capri 2000GT which Ford fitted with the V4 engine from the Ford Transit. Postbox red, toured all over the country in it

Also had a Morris Marina. 1.8.Reg PUM223M. Father bought it for me in 1978 but didn't realise that it was rather over powered for some-one who had passed his test at 17. Ashamed to admit, drove it to the limit on a number of occasions.
Ford Cortina, with ban the bomb lights, column gear stick one piece seats. Colour red and rust. Cost £75 a lot of money in 1973. And insurance at a whooping £15 a year.
A large VAT Dave

My marina 1.3 (p reg)was a horrendous lemony green, with black vinyl roof. When I sold it, I refashioned the sills and front end out of cardboard covered in filler, generously daubed in under seal to hide it all.
Surprised I am the first to shout up a Metro as my first chariot. A shit brown colour. Had to ditch it as it was loosing compression. You couldn’t beat British built back them!!!

Went the missus past her driving test i bought her an Vauxhall Nova 1.2 . It was 16 years old with only 60k on the clock only 2 owners, the guy i bought it off happened to be the 2nd owner and he bought it his daughter after she past her test... As it happens she never drove it so it sat for 6mths unused..
Cracking car immaculate inside and out and the underneath had been sealed aswell......
We pt/ex the nova and two guys at the garage where literally fighting over it.........
My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

A chap with a back street garage at Hurstead used to buy ex-military vehicles and do em up to look like regular motors. Mine was done like a black mini mayfair - had a big steering wheel and round wing mirrors either side of the bonnet.

1st car was a Hillman Avenger 2 years old £600 September 1974 bought to start my first job, only the Deputy Head had a newer car! He never liked me!!
2nd was another one 2 years later, crashed it on Manchester Road.
3rd was a Chrysler Sunbeam ... the advert probably sold it to me I had it 6 months and then got a job in sales with a company car so I sold it and got more than I paid for it brand new ahhh, the heady days of 15% inflation! Sunbeam advert with Petula Clark:
Quality is sh1t, a bit like the cars in those days I suppose.

Sounds a bit immoral that...

A good tread about the first car that they owned but what was posters favorite car that they owned? Mine was Toyota Crown Super Saloon 2.8,the first car that I had owned that was luxurious with a super quiet engine and my first automatic, the only downside was that it had a feature where the rear passengers could take control of the radio system and was like a magnet for kids in the back
A 1958 Austin Cambridge bought in 1965 when I had pasted my test JCP198 Can remember all my early Reg numbers ,but later ones not so much, perhaps Marriage, Mortgages and 3 Daughters changed what was important!!!!
