Fans Forum 27th March 20:56 - Mar 15 with 16194 viewsTwelveAngryMen

The Interim Board have tasked me with organising a fans forum to assist them with understanding our requirements as fans as we look forward and start planning for next season.

Ben Hatton, Michael Bolingbroke and myself are all confirmed to attend. If Ian Currie is available he will attend as well.

Topics under discussion will include season ticket pricing, travel, requirements of exiles, stand allocation, communication, community engagement, the appointment of an SLO and what can be done to deliver the best matchday experience.

The forum will be held at Rowley’s on Wednesday 27th March commencing at 7pm and will strictly be by invitation only. Non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided.

In order to make the discussion as productive as possible the number of attendees will be limited to 50 to include committee members from BST, BSA, The Muckers and representatives from BASIL, Yorkshire Seasiders, Leyland and Chorley and the TKs.

Having received feedback from those groups I have allocated the places available as follows —

BST/BSA/THE MUCKERS — 4 committee places each

BASIL / YORKSHIRE / LEYLAND AND CHORLEY AND TK’s - 2 committee places each.

In addition BST/BSA/THE MUCKERS will be able to nominate up to 4 additional members each.

I require names / addresses / ages for all attendees and also an indication as to whether (boycott period aside) they have been ST holders and if so for how long.

This information is only being sought for demographic purposes.

Assuming the committee members and general members allocation is fully subscribed that brings us to 32.

I am also going to allocate one place to a disability representative (I have asked Chris Beveridge to attend or nominate).

The remaining 17 places ( and any additional places that come available if any of the groups don’t use their full allocation ) will be made available to the general fan base whether affiliated to a particular group or not.

Assuming there is sufficient interest I will look to allocate fair share to U18’s and Seniors.

Anyone other than serving committee members of the above can email me on timfielding82@icloud.com providing the same information I seek of the fans groups nominations to register their interest in attending . If I am over-subscribed I will draw lots.

The deadline for nominations for the open places is Thursday next 7pm.

Hopefully I will see some of you at Burton tomorrow.

It's important that they do attend. Unfortunately I think a meeting of this size is unlikely to produce any kind of fresh ideas. As soon as you get 6+ people in a room, individual thought goes out of the window. But I'm a nosey bugger and still wanna see what's going on

I agree with that to some degree Rotts which is why I think interaction through the official website is so important.

Online surveys for example are a great way of capturing the viewpoints of the masses not just the few. We have to remember also that many people wouldn’t be as comfortable as some with face to face engagement in a formal environment yet they could be the fans with so much to offer. Same with forums, some potentially great contributors get shouted down by the higher profile members no matter how valid their point.

No business restricts it’s insight to just a certain customer base.

I couldn’t agree more with that LALA.

Fans representation is great as long as it’s from all fans not just, ‘certain fans’. That’s my worry.

At the risk of getting accused of sniping from the sidelines, (which is clearly where one poster thinks certain posters belong and thus their viewpoints aren’t valid...) There’s been jostling going on for positions within the club for ages before and clearly more so after the Oystons.

My observation is why do we need committees and forums when anybody can engage with the club through social media? We have a club website that is now Oyston free. Let’s use it. Let’s use all forums to engage. What we don’t need is the creation of an official Uber Fans forum for real.

Let’s engage as fans from wherever in whatever basis to add our voice.

That lady who started the Tangerine Travel group has shown that individuals can make a difference. It's good that we've got a strong supporters trust but it'd be shame if everyone decides to defer their individual agency to BST. Same goes for the other groups.

Just my opinion but I feel now is a time for everyone to get back to old ways - support the team, spend cash at the club, be nice to the (non-football😉) staff, use club facilities etc.

Agree with H and Rotts. Two classic examples of fans whose input would be invaluable just from an individual perspective and not from any affiliation 👍

Did you notice Spell throws the grenade in then runs off to watch ( and cuddle) from the sidelines. Little tinker 🙈

You're right Rot, but everyone's understandably a bit jumpy after the Oyston saga.

I think a fans' forum is a great idea. The objective is to recreate bonds between the club, individuals, and the community.

Because of our unique situation and not for want of trying, it maybe hasn't been done quite right the first time round. It can, however, evolve into something positive.

Learning to read clusters is not something your eyes do naturally. It takes constant practice.

Why don’t we just have the AVFTT stalwarts on the board and committee/forum and have done with it? It’s the natural diection of travel. One is already on the board of course of course of course. Cream always rises to the top after all...🤮.

On a serious note this is all well and good but new owners might not even want any of this malarkey so planning and jostling now may well be for nothing. 😉

Just to deal with LALA's point above the initial post was put on here, AVFTT and BHS at the same time
It was also published on my Facebook and Twitter accounts ( both of which plenty of non-affiliated BFC fans follow
The Gazette and the Club are promoting today - they wanted to delay their pieces until after the w/e so it didn't get lost in the match day football content
The size and format of the forum was a board decision taken collectively
I've been left to make it representative and I finalised that after consultation with the various fans groups - most of which came as it happens from BSA
There's always other ways to do things Fully appreciate that
This is all about providing the Board with a steer on various decisions that need to be made in the short term and allowing them to secure a better understanding as to where our priorities lie
There are 17 open spaces and there has been plenty of interest in that - we will likely have to ballot to reduce down
If you can't make or aren't selected feel free to email me suggestions particularly re ST pricing and any subtle changes you think will enhance the match day experience for you / others and we will try to introduce the best of those into the discussion
The Gazette and the Club will be covering proceedings to keep those interested abreast of how things are going
It won't however be streamed

Also if you could give us a little peek behind the wizard's curtain... tell us what the receiver has on his chips etc. That'd be great.

Maybe the club should be first to promote next time Tam. 3 fans forum sites and your own Twitter account is still very very selective advertising to be given the heads up first. There is still huge number of fans who don’t use these forums or follow your Twitter account

17 open spaces isn’t representive percentage wise of the number of fans not affiliated to any of the fans groups given priority. Maybe that could be looked at next time if you still go with the idea that fans have more worth if they are in one of the aforementioned groups.

I agree there are different and better ways of dealing with things and hopefully you will take away the feedback you’ve got from here too 👍

Appreciate the feedback Lala

To be fair there are a lot follow those accounts so there is a decent reach

I also didn't know there would be the delay re the Gazette / Club - assumed initially they'd have run straightaway

Personally I think the splits about right as it's reasonable to assume those actively involved in the various groups will likely be the ones with the most ideas or best able to collate the ideas

We have a rough split of 1/3 committee members of various fans groups
1/3 members of those groups ( non-committee )
1/3 open invites

As it stands if you apply for one of the open places I reckon you have a 40-50% chance of being invited That may change of course

I'm sure moving forward ( assuming we are still here ) that the Board will look at other mediums for dialogue and the feedback received on this first forum will factor into that

‘...it's reasonable to assume those actively involved in the various groups will likely be the ones with the most ideas or best able to collate the ideas’.

Not necessarily.

You assume, wrongly, that the most actively involved people, probably those that you know, have the most/best ideas. Saying that discounts so many potential better ideas or collators of them. Usual closed shop attitude.

Sorry Tam I seriously dislike your paragraph regarding fans in these groups having the best ideas! How do you even know that if you have no idea what non members are thinking and the calibre of their thoughts and ideas.

Infact that statement alone causes resentment and assumes elitism which is exactly the point a few of us on here are trying to make 👎

Hannibal there is a 33% allocation potentially available for non-affiliated so their interests aren't being marginalised in any way

I'm also happy to take any ideas into the forum if anyone wants to email - and that will be formalised once the selections are complete

The focus however will be on the Board putting their ideas forward and receiving feedback on those

I'll leave it there as there are a 1001 ways you could structure dialogue and this is just one

Yes Lala, BFC business should be conducted through the proper channels.

Not on private twitter feeds and message boards - there's more of a chance of the boys' club latching on to it.

Questions are best put to new owners. The receiver is only there temporarily.

Mid / long term objectives community and football wise
Reserve team
Bringing youth players through
Training ground
Revenue streams
Pitch quality
East stand
Ground maintenance
Squad rebuilding / players' contracts
Transfer policy
Backroom staff
Season tickets for next year

If I had another 5 mins I'd be able to think of another dozen or so issues to tackle.

The future equivalents of Hatton and Bolingbroke, if they're worth their salt, will have it all boxed off and won't need me, the TKs, or the Muckers to tell them this sort of stuff.

It's just nice for fans' feelings to be taken into consideration.

I find your attitude quite sad Hannibal.

You might be right about new owners not wanting to engage, but I don't know of many businesses anywhere who don't look to consult with the customer base.

You are certainly right that people can put in ideas individually without recourse to organised groups, but that is what they will be - individual views, and easily lost. I think it is far better to try to influence the collective view of the larger groups, myself. And BST has around 2,000 members I think at the moment.

We all know why you are antipathetic to AVFTT as you were unable to cope with the hurly burly there, but they were recently boasting about having 11,000 users and if I wanted to engage with activists and those who are really committed to the club it is the place I would start, albeit with all the usual health warnings.

Some of the remainder of your comments do you no favours really. We know you resent the insiders, but people like TAM are where they are for good reason and he in particular has done far more than most to lead the crusade and reach out to and engage with other fans every step of the way, particularly on the legal intricacies. Casually dismissing him as a member of a non-existent clique says more about you than it does about him.

Icon? It's all Rio Ferdinand's fault.

Yep, agree with Hannibal and Lala regarding the assumption that fan groups will automatically have the best ideas.

To garner strong constructive opinion all shades of opinion are required, from uber fan to objective non-fan. The best advice may be from those who are disinterested and will provide options based on common sense and not unrealistic wish fulfilment.

I hope the comments in here are taken in good faith by TAM and help him to hone his thoughts and maybe avoid a potential pitfall or two. I don`t underestimate the trickiness he may face in herding the kittens...

Firstly, I agree with the the Forum and the way it's been organised (even if I share concerns about maybe a couple of individuals who might attend. However all fans pulling together and fresh start for all), for this first meeting. Well done to all those involved. But (and you know there would be a but....)....

I'd like the know the reasons why it won't be streamed. As both the Receiver and Board have mentioned "openness and transparency", streaming this would cover this, allowing as many fans as possible to see this in action. It also avoids the "Chinese Whispers" that will happen after the event, and any positive message the Club wants to send will be drowned out.

I could go on, but I think you could guess my other concerns. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

It also avoids the "Chinese Whispers" that will happen after the event, and any positive message the Club wants to send will be drowned out.

I could go on, but I think you could guess my other concerns. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.
