I make a mean Rice n Peas or a classic Mutton Biriyani - but admittedly, plain rice on it's own is pretty bleak.
Your Pie n Mash though, it's alright but I can think of a hundred things I'd chose over it if I were planning on eating out. A bunch of us ordered some in from that famous Harrington's in Tooting last year for one of the girls birthdays at work. It was nice enough but I just didn't understand the furore over it. It's nothing I couldn't make myself in under an hour.
Had an excellent Falafel and Hulloumi cheese wrap at Kingston Market the other week, it was a taste sensation.
Couldn't agree more - tastes of nothing, lumpy bland mash, bland mince, watery liquor...there's a reason it's died out. I love pie and mash when it's done properly, but can't be doing with the slop they knock out at Pie and Mash shops.

Cooke's was always decent , a little overpriced for what it was though.
A plate of stewed eels and mash was also a nice alternative.

spooky, was thinking the same on Saturday. I travel into Kings Cross and used to go to one opposite Mount Pleasant sorting office, but that's been shut a while now. Knew Cookes closed, and wondered where I could go. All I could think of was the Manze's across Tower Bridge, but that's hardly on the way
Didn't know about Cockneys, will give that a go next time I come down to HQ.
