Why is it so fast? fans singing out of time sounds terrible

1
passionate anthem, one problem on 17:10 - Jun 12 with 3615 viewsHighjack

It's because sound doesn't travel very fast so there's a difference between the people in the stands hearing it and the cameras next to the band picking it up, resulting in the apparent delay.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Its always been sung out of sync plus the last line "o bydded Ir hen iath barhau" is often mixed up with the line before the chorus "tros rydded collassant ei gweud"

If watching in HD, sounds and picture aren't always synched. But pissed up fans never sing in time anyway.

Just watched the recorded game at home after being in the stadium yesterday, sounds awful on TV, in the stand it was in time with the music and sounded so load and amazing it was unreal.......many people with tears rolling down their cheeks singing it too, absolute class.

Poor on TV though

Yep it's because in the stand you are hearing the sound about a second after the music is played, and it takes another second for the singing to get back to the mic on the pitch. So it sounds like the fans are singing about two seconds after the music is played. It's relativity in action.

If that is true why doesn't it affect other anthems. The English fans seem spot on with their timings. So are every other countries fans

Best guess is most games would have microphones around the ground so it captures all the sound, both in the crowd and in the middle, whilst yesterday the only sound recorded seemed to be from the camera on the pitch.

The version of the Welsh anthem played yesterday did seem a bit more up tempo than usual mind.

Nah you could hear in the ground that it wasn't in time to the music.

Simple answer, just let the fans sing it on their own, no music and we don't need a female opera singer either

I think you under estimate the speed of sound.

Yeah, that would be good! Without any music nobody would know when to start or have anything to synchronise to so everyone would do their own thing. Utter chaos. Why do you think bands have drummers?

There shouldn't be any problem with music/singing synchronisation because with a decent sound system and decent speakers at regular intervals around the entire stadium, everyone would hear the music pretty close to simultaneously. The problem is emotional causes the individual singer to speed up and individuals speed up at different rates. An audience clapping along with a live band almost always speed up and sometimes it's shocking.

"Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed" - just saying, like.

Anyway, in response to the OP - the verse was out of time to me (music ahead of crowd) because it was a higher tempo than normal. However, the chorus was slightly better I thought, due to a longer than normal pause before "Gwlad, gwlad", which allowed the crowd to catch up a little.

That's my in-depth analysis of the anthem for you.
